The Russian community in SF is significant, but not sprawling — so I didn’t expect to find a very good Russian bookstore here. Was I ever wrong — this place is packed floor to ceiling with gorgeous Russian books. No cheap paperbacks — glossy atlases, cookbooks, bizarre poetry, dictionaries, gardening, travel, history, modern fiction, and an incredible children’s section. I found translations of english books like harry potter, winnie the pooh, LOR, as well as Russian fairy tales and novels This place has weird hours because of the niche market, and it’s closed off with a locked gate(you have to ring a doorbell to be let in). But the women who run/own the place are incredibly warm and helpful, and will help you navigate the shelves or let you browse if that’s your thing. I’m studying Russian and found a great section on the language — textbooks, picture dictionaries, and workbooks from the perspective of an English or Russian student. The books are very reasonably priced, and you can get a deal if you buy several things.

Amazing choice of children’s books in Russian! I went out with six books(pictures will follow) in prices less that I would pay if shipped from Moscow. I would get more, but the kiddo was restless)) You can also make orders. I wish I knew about this store earlier! Also, it is open on Sundays, so if you want to combine a visit in the City with a nice book shopping– you can. I cannot comment on the adult section selection, since I did not have a chance to check it out, but their webpage( ) is very comprehensive. I did like that they have Russian books in English.
