This is another great non-​profit. The Global Fund for Women works with local women leaders and organizations and funds critical projects internationally. They don’t try to impose western ideas. Instead they ask the women what they need. So for instance, in Egypt they funded a legal initiative to get women their own id cards. In Egypt, you were often kept on your father’s id card until you were transferred to your husband’s card. Try getting a divorce or a job or renting an apt when you want to get away from a wife-​beater or worse if you don’t have your own legal identity. Can you imagine? 50% of the population didn’t have their own identity? It’s just bizarre. And troubling. GFW was successful and now Egyptian women can get their own id cards. There are numerous examples globally. I’d encourage you to look into them. Also, their President is very impressive and hardworking. So you’d be investing in the right team.
