Visited them at the Makers Fair in San Mateo and ordered the carne asada fries. Carne asada was awesome and the fries were perfectly cooked. Good portions. Will go back.

As a San Diego native, I’m always on the prowl for an awesome burrito sans rice and beans. I found that and WAY more at Fritas Shack, and their carnitas cali burrito is divine! I’ve driven up from San Jose multiple times just for a taste of home, and they always deliver !

I’m from SD and I’ll say this hits the spot when I’m craving that SoCal type of Mexican food. I tried this at the stones town off the grid because I’ve been craving and heard they are from Chula Vista! They are almost everything I love about carne asada fries and Cali-B’s lol close enough :3 Their hot sauce is ok but the food is pretty bomb! They just need some fresh horchata to complete the meal!

Decided to hit the stonestown farmar after buying some overpriced bedding at Macy’s. It’s criminal how much a mid to low level dept. store can charge for a duvet cover, smh. Anyway, circled around the market looking for something tasty and decided to try a California buirrito from Fritas. Luckily for me, this particular California burrito comes with carnitas. Here’s the deal with carnitas: if done well and not overcooked(dry), carnitas can be a true culinary treat. Rich, savory, and«fall off the bone” — type tenderness. The carnitas California burrito at Fritas was one of the best burritos I have ever had. Period. Tender meat, good amount of melted cheese, and a bomb tortilla. Fries and guac don’t hurt either. It had that grease dripping a bit, so you know it’s good. I highly recommend trying this if you like good carnitas. It rivaled Taqueria Cancun, my all-time favorite.

A bit of a wait for our burrito but it was a good solid burrito for under $ 10. We shared the California Burrito with carnitas which came with plenty of moist pork, fries and guac. The wait though was a bit, about 20 minutes to receive our food after placing our order. I heard that they are a pretty new truck though, so they’re probably working through the kinks. I would definitely get another meal at Fritas whenever the craving hits at OTG.

Fritas at Stonestown today … Carne Asada fries are the best in the City! And the rolled tacos? Can’t go wrong! Can’t miss that truck! Been watching these guys since they were just a tarp … Sticking with!

Being a San Diego native, I’m extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food. When I moved to San Francisco for school, I’ve found it almost impossible to find a Mexican restaurant that is just as good as it is in San Diego. Recently, Stonestown Galleria just opened an Off the Grid and I decided to try something new. Walking around, nothing really stood out until I saw Fritas had rolled tacos and carne asada fries I decided to try it and it was amazing. It tasted just how it does down South! I’m definitely come back.

3.5STARS I wanted to order something I could only get at Off the Grid: Fort Mason. Looking through their specials and factoring in the fact I’m not eating red meat, I decided to try Frita’s special at OtG. It was Friday, March 4th around 6:45pm. I got the Smoked ahi tuna fries($ 9): fries topped w/smoked ahi tuna, jack cheese, cilantro, onions, chipotle crema, cotija cheese. Good flavor. The fries were crispy and the tuna had a nice smokiness. All the flavors blended well together. The dish is gluten free for those who are gluten conscious. I thought the portion was okay, but I heard it was much smaller than the portion they served last year. This was fine by me as I don’t eat much of any one thing. But for those that were expecting the same portions as last year, they may be a little disappointed. The red meat lover in me would love to try their carne asada fries or rolled beef tacos. Next time, Fritas truck. Next time.

I recently checked out the Fritas shack at Off the Grid Fort Mason and was pleasantly surprised at the spin that they put on their fries. I got the Ahi Tuna fries and was absolutely in love with it. For a second I thought I made a mistake of not getting Carne Asada Fries, but damn… Tuna meshes so well with cilantro, fries, cheese, and special sauce. Overall, great experience and addition to the OTG family. I do wish that the prices were a bit lower because you really don’t get that much for 9 $ even considering the fact that it’s at Off The Grid. I will come back for their other items!

Rice and beans are bit overrated. They kinda bog down a Mission-style burrito with all those extra carbs but without bringing much extra flavor. French fries, however, are bursting with deep fried deliciousness and are a far superior burrito filling starch. I wish more places would start serving this cholesterol-loving burrito style. Carne Asada California Burrito: So satisfying! Tons of crunchy fries covered in guacamole and sour cream and cheese. Seared bits of carne asada. And a tangy hot sauce to add along the way. Reminded me a bit of the California-style burrito from Señor Sisig. Definite burrito coma for the hour following.

Campechana fries! $ 9 and definitely hit the spot. Picked this as our first spot at Off The Grid @ Fort Mason among all the other food trucks/tents. Line was long(so we knew it was good), but it went fast. Great, quick service and made to order. Fries were fresh and meat(campechana = carne asada & pork) was HOTOFFTHEPRESS! Fresh guac & sour cream to top it all off made for a solid appetizer to our food adventure that night.

Hefty and solid mexican food, gringo style. I was looking for a good breakfast burrito before making my drive back to LA, and these guys just happened to be at the farmer’s market next to my girl’s house. They serve up some classic San Diego style California burritos, along with breakfast burritos and carne asada fries. I’m a little partial to the authentic tacos and burritos that you’ll find all across LA, but these hefty burritos with a mash of meat, french fries, sour cream and guacamole can really hit the spot for a Socal guy like me. The portions were generous and the burritos were well made and not just thrown together. I can’t say that the flavors were mind blowing, but the ingredients were fresh and worked well together. Although I enjoyed my ridiculously unhealthy breakfast, to say that the food is amazing is a bit of a stretch. Maybe the Bay area folks just don’t have quite as many options when it comes to great mexican food. Because although the food here is savory and delicious, it doesn’t quite compare with the hand made tortillas and slow grilled meat that the best taco shops in LA can offer. Regardless, I was impressed to find such solid mexican food in the area, let alone at a farmer’s market. So if you’re looking for some good old Southern California style burritos with a monstrous side of carne asade fries, this place will definitely hit the spot.

This place has one of the best breakfast burritos I have ever had the privilege to eat. The simple, and few ingredients combine to make a fantastic breakfast. The potatoes inside the burrito are my favorite. They are crispy, creating such a great crunch with every bite. My only suggestion would be for them to evenly distribute the ingredients. There were some bites where I got was cheese. In others, all I got were potatoes. I have been here twice now. The second time, they were sold out of breakfast burritos. I will be sure to come earlier next time!

Fritas has become my go-to breakfast place on Sundays. My parents and I make it a point to come to farmer’s market at Stonestown. Fritas is one reason why I look forward to my Sunday morning trips. I absolutely love the carne asada fries! They’re perfectly thin and crunchy! On top of that, it’s piled with meat and sides at the center! My family and I have had a taste of everything on their menu and nothing disappoints! It’s worth coming back to every week(which I do)!

I was at Off The Grid: Fort Mason and wanted to try a food truck that: 1, did not have a crazy long line and 2, I haven’t tried before. After walking around, I saw Fritas Shack and decided to check it out. The tuna fries caught my interest because it was a Friday during Lent when I went to Off The Grid, and I practice the no-meat Fridays. I ordered it without expecting much because I’ve never had fish on my fries before. But I’m glad I ordered it because it exceeded my non-existing expectations. It was really good. I’m actually craving for some now as I type this. It’s a must try if you like fish and if you like fries. It’s also big so definitely share! While waiting for food, I noticed people ordered the tacos which looked tasty too. They reminded me of Jack In The Box tacos, but I’m sure Fritas Shack tacos are much more tastier. Definitely planning on trying it the next time I’m at Off The Grid.

I was looking for something to eat for breakfast Sunday morning other than a french pastry while at the Stonestown farmers’ market. Carne Asada over fries. It was like nachos except you have fries instead of tortilla chips. I shared this with hubby. We had it for breakfast and lunch. It was that much. It was piled high. Then the following Sunday I ordered the pork burrito with fries. Again hubby and I shared it. It was a very generous burrito. Instead of beans and rice, it’s wrappped with fries inside. Hubby and I agreed that the food must be designed for young people who can burn it off. So much food. How can one person eat all that? And we both just finished our workouts before coming to the farmers market. The next item I plan to try is the breakfast burrito — scrambled eggs with carne asada I think. I’m sure hubby and I will be able to share that too. Good value and great food.

I tried out Fritas Shack at Off The Grid Fort Mason and I was not disappointed. I heard these guys were experts at cranking out San Diego Style Mexican Food and I was definitely impressed. Note that I haven’t been to a San Diego Taqueria, so the bar hasn’t been set too high for me yet. Since their usual menu was slightly different at OTG Fort Mason, I decided to try one of their OTGFM exclusives, their Smoked Ahi Tuna over Fries. It just sounded so interesting! Smoked Ahi Tuna Over Fries. — Ahi Tuna smoked on cherry wood, cheddar-jack cheese, chopped onions, chipotle cream and shredded Jack cheese and Cotija cheese topped over crispy French fries. Who would’ve thought Smoked Ahi Tuna would make such an epic topping on a bed of crispy fries? The tuna was smoked very nicely. I’ve never had«carne” asada fries be so aromatic like this. And it tasted really good! The smoked flavor really really sticks out and it’s not fishy as you’d think it would be. The fries themselves were fried really good and had a good crisp to them. And as you can see by the pic, they give you a lot. Probably one of the best deals you can get at OTG Fort Mason. It’s best to share this with a group of folks if you want to try other vendors. Fritas Shack has definitely made a good first impression for me and I will definitely come back for another round of their Smoked Ahi Tuna Fries. Also, I would love to stop by their booth at the Stonestown Farmers Market on Sundays where they make their usual Carne Asada Fries and California Burritos.

A former student of mine, who is attending San Francisco State, sent me an email needing help with a research paper. I text her and told her I’d meet her at Stonestown. She: WHAAAAAAT? Don’t play! R U HRE? Me: Yes. Visiting my niece. Meet you in an hour. She: I think I’m gonna cry! Well, she was just happy to not only see one of her favorite teachers, but someone from San Diego. We walked over to the farmer’s market and the first thing we saw was, «San Diego Style Mexican Food.» So of course we had to try it to give it the stamp of approval! We asked who was from San Diego and Andy told us he was from Chula Vista. We ordered the carne asada fries and they were GOOD! Tasted just like home but better because he uses thinner fries which stay crispy with all the toppings. Sure, they cost more… but we’re in the bay area. Liza said she’s eaten Mexican food around the area and none can compare to back home, but at least she knows that when she’s feeling a little homesick, she can come to Fritas! I know I will the next time I’m up this way.

I very strongly dislike Sundays. Because Sunday is the day before a week’s worth of commuting and work, I feel like Sunday is Monday’s bitchy cousin who acts nice but gives you backhanded compliments. In comparison to Monday she’s OK, but let’s face it we’re frienemies. During football season I can handle Sundays a bit more, but Fritas Shack is the constant silver lining in my Sunday cloud. I feel too guilty eating this stuff at 10am. Thus, I go at 11 and regret it every time. I am always so excited because I don’t see a line and then I have to sit and watch as they call out name after name after name… while I have to smell what I ordered being cooked and handed to another person over and over, drooling and subconsciously doing lunges in preparation of grabbing their order and running away with it… trust me, you NEEDTOGOEARLY. When they call out for Ashley’s order 10 times and Ashley still hasn’t shown up, I want to go up there and pretend to be Ashley because obviously Ashley doesn’t care about her food. But Ashley could be bigger than me and I do not want to risk it. Just go early and avoid questioning your morals like I do but always wake up too late for: A) You don’t want them running out of any of that deliciousness B) Sanity C) Get your burrito before all those other suckas Get the breakfast burrito if that makes you feel better about eating hearty Mexican food before noon, however truthfully you could order anything and you wouldn’t regret a thing.

So, I live in SD and eat Mexican food down here at least once a week. There is a distinct difference between San Diego Mexican food and the rest of the world am I am not here to preach its superiority, rather proclaim that it’s my style. With this being said, it’s very difficult to find my idea of a good Mexi-fix outside of SD County lines. Fritas Shack does it right for a farmer’s market setup and it’s clear that SD natives have sniffed them out. The menu is limited, the lines can stack up and the prices will make you tug at your collar a little bit, but if finding a good set of rolled tacos in your neighborhood is a tough task, you can stomach coming here on a Sunday morning. The portion of rolled tacos was itty-bitty but the flavors were on point. They nailed it with the salsa, but it isn’t for the weak because it packs a pretty big punch… go easy, friends! Oh yeah, cash only!
