Fine Custom Painting

Excellent is the word! Our neighbors across the street highly recommended Evan Auchard of Fine Custom Painting, Inc. for both exterior and interior work. He did a beautiful job on our large Late Craftsman Revival brown shingle home, a very huge undertaking. He finished exactly on time, in four weeks after the scaffolding was put up, on the very day the contract stated. He matched the original colors for shingles and trim, did excellent prep work and some minor repairs, and we have already referred two neighbors for his excellent work. The house looks beautiful.

I met Evan in 2000 after we moved into our Victorian in Noe Valley, and since then Fine Custom Painting has not only painted our house twice, but they have also painted 3 other houses on our street because the neighbors were so impressed with their work! Evan is a meticulous craftsman whose eye for color and balance is unparalleled. His crew has literally painted our entire house inside and out! The prep work that his devoted crew put into each job is where all the value is – many painters can deliver a paint job that looks good the day after it is painted, but his quality products and concentration on perfectly prepping the paint area make his work look as good 8 years later as the day it was painted.
I also appreciate that Evan is a consummate professional in his time and cost estimates — no overruns, no confusion about expectations. He has been in the industry long enough to know exactly what a particular project will require.
Finally, his workers (and Evan) are all wonderful to be around, and have always been friendly and thoughtful about my family, my children, and my cats. Even though Evan doesn’t like cats :) It makes the process so much easier when the people who are in your home are easygoing and friendly.

Until 2012, I lived in San Francisco and met Evan Auchard of Fine Custom Painting sometime around 2004. At that time, we hired him to paint our 1888 Victorian in Noe Valley, which was in desperate shape. It took ages, but alligatored and chipped paint gave way to bare wood and then a brand new skin. We worked together closing on the color scheme and to this day the house looks as good as it did when the scaffolding was removed. I understand the current owners occasionally have Evan’s crew wash it, thereby revealing the high gloss finish.
So pleased with the results, we had him paint our subsequent house in The Castro. Though not a Victorian, he did as well with the stucco as he did with 100-​year-​old plus redwood. Furthermore, he painted all of the interior.
I would trust him to use good judgment on any house I wanted him to paint. Know this, however: Evan paints for the long run. He invests the time and energy into getting it right so the job will last for many years to come.

We had our house painted by Fine Custom Painting about 4 years ago. Because of the prep work done by the crew and the high quality of work and products, the house still looks like new. Evan has a good eye for color and helped us make some great choices. Although not inexpensive, the value is good.

I couldn’t be happier with the great work done by Evan and his team at Fine Custom Painting. My husband and I actually rent our house in Pacific Heights, and the owner felt it was long overdue for a paint job (all of the exterior and some touch-​ups inside). Evan worked closely with both me and the owner to find a way to make the process as seamless as possible (it was a BIG project). He kept me updated every step of the way — it was a 3+ week project. The results are fantastic — it looks like a new house. Evan even acted as the liaison between us and our neighbors. We had to put scaffolding in their yard to paint the side of our house and Evan dealt with all the neighbor negotiating.

LOVE Fine Custom Painting. I found them when I wanted to repaint my Victorian in Pacific Heights. I asked the previous owner who they had used to paint the house 10 years earlier because there was NOT a crack in the paint — I just wanted a new color. In the time I lived in the house the next door building had to be repainted three times. I just moved to a stucco home in the East Bay, and they did a flawless job painting that, too. Though Evan is renowned for his ‘color’ eye, I like cool colors and he prefers warm colors. Nonetheless, he COMPLETELY got the colors I was looking for and had the painter make the color I wanted. They don’t come cheap, and they are worth every penny.

Evan Auchard and his crew did a fantastic job on our house on Clipper St. (Both of my neighbors worked with him and love him, too.) He has a gift for helping his clients choose colors that work well together — and I’ve never seen such skilled and efficient painters. They came early, got a tremendous amount done each day, and cleaned up every evening. They finished our house in 3 weeks. And it looks incredible. Evan and his crew go beyond what is required of them, are extremely professional, and are a joy to work with. We can’t recommend them enough. We’d hire them again in a flash.

Almost three years ago, Evan Auchard and his crew of talented painters took on the exterior of my home. Their sanding and prep work of the redwood siding was so good that the structure now looks as if it were recently constructed rather than 60 years old. These painters were at my home every day for almost 7 weeks. They were timely, kept me informed almost every day and kept the yard very clean with all of their tools stored in a job box.
They were so good that my family vacated the home this last Summer and Evan and his interior crew resurfaced all of our walls and ceilings, installed crown molding and painted. Once again it was a stellar job.
