Dr Groeger successfully performed a very difficult operation on me to repair an aortic aneurysm. He came to my home and described the procedure to me and my family so that we could make an informed decision to either fix the problem permanently by opening the chest cavity or take a more conservative approach and fix the problem with a more temporary procedure through the vein. My family, Dr Groeger and I discussed the situation, risks and rewards thoroughly. He answered all of our many questions and turns it out that we made the right decision. Even though he is a supremely competent surgeon to me it is even more important that Dr Groeger really cares about his patients and gives more personal attention than any doctor I have ever seen and I’ve seen a lot of doctors in my 76 years.

I have never called a business offering to pay cash for a treatment and been turned away. I told the reception that I have been referred for vericose vein treatment and she said it was too expensive and that I wouldn’t be able to afford it. Well, my parents are paying for it and we have plenty of money to pay for the treatment. Thank you for your suggestion, I will take my business elsewhere where I am not«wasting the doctors time.»

When my primary care refers me to specialists, he always refers me to his colleagues at St. Mary’s or Seton but this time he saved the best for last. His referral to Dr. Groeger is the absolute best of all. Dr. Groeger is an awesome Surgeon/Physician with an incredible bedside manner. He actually takes the time to get to know his patients. I’ve never had a Physician ask me where I was born or where I was raised. They usually start out with your medical history or ask why you’ve come to see them. If he didn’t take the time to ask, I never would have known that he was born and raised 130 miles northeast of where I was raised. It’s interesting that we ended up meeting over an iceberg in the City by the Bay. Not only is Dr. Groeger a very skilled surgeon, he’s the best in the west by the way; he genuinely cares for his patients. Sometimes I can hear him talk to his patients and he’s always so positive, upbeat and encouraging. I believe that’s why his office is busier than a BART station with patients coming and going in and out of his office. Sometimes its standing room only in his waiting room and as one of his patients, I totally understand why. Dr. Groeger has a sense of humor too. He has this dry wit and the things he comes up with are so funny because they’re so matter of fact and so timely. I don’t know how we got on the subject of cars, I think it was a way to distract me because he was preparing to perform surgery on the iceberg, but I told him that I have a Honda, and he replied«My wife and daughter have Hondas.» Then I asked him what he has and he said«It’s just a Chevrolet.» So, I’m thinking, this man is married and has kids, so he probably has a midsized sedan, so he probably has one of those new Impala sedans. WRONG! I met him at his office on a Saturday for a dressing change after he had been in surgery for the better part of the day. I drove under the canopy and parked next to the sweetest ride that I have seen in a long time. It turns out Dr. Groeger owns that sweet ride! «It’s just a Chevrolet, yeah right!!» Dr. Groeger is a classy guy, he not only looks the part, acts the part, lives the part, but he drives the part too. The million dollar question is «Do you trust Dr. Groeger to make decisions/recommendations that are in your best interests?» My answer is implicitly, without questions or reservations, I trust him with my life. I have informed my family if I develop a need for a general/vascular surgeon; call 911 and tell the paramedics to transport me to St. Mary’s. If I’m having surgery, I want Dr. Groeger. I don’t care how much pain I’m in or that St. Mary’s is no longer 5.5 miles away and is now 29 miles away. I want Dr. Groeger! The bonus question is «Would you recommend Dr. Groeger to family and friends?» My answer is absolutely, I would recommend him to anyone who would listen to me or give me the time of day.

I got a referral to Dr. Groeger to remove a lump from my leg. He was an absolute pro — he has a wonderful manner and a caring staff to help him. And when things got complicated, he was reassuring in word and deed. Highly recommend him!

I got a referral from my Dr. to go to doctor Groeger. And she was right, I couldn’t ask for anything more. Ask lots of question and actually took the time to get to know me. It means alot when many doctors usually want you in and out. He examined my leg and took plenty of notes and he made sure he was going to take care of my legs he was going to run further test to see for progress. If you are looking for a great vascular surgeon Dr. Eugene Groeger is the one for you. Try him out, I know I did and I didn’t regret it. Thanks doctor.
