FAIL Etiquette looks dated these days and really doesn’t have a fun crowd. The drinks were fine and the music was fine. I kept expecting something more and it just never happened. Maybe it’s just me and maybe everybody knows how to enjoy themselves more than I but as far a snazzy lounges go, Etiquette doesn’t get me cool.

The only reason I gave Etiquette 2 stars is because I got free drinks & champagne. I have definitely experienced better before. I am not coming back.

I don’t know exactly how to categorize this place other than to say it has the douchie clientele of a lounge with the funky smells of a dive bar. The worst violation of all is that they serve beer in plastic cups.

I recently attended an event called ‘Recess’ hosted by a local non-profit called HIPTOHELP. It was so much FUN! The music was awesome, and the drinks were good, especially the drink special they had that night. From what I believe, the door money went to the non-profit and so did a dollar from every drink special sold. The non-profit benefits music and arts education in local at need elementary schools. I had a chance to meet some of the founders, and WOW, just wow. These girls and guys are so driven and very very friendly. AND thankful for the opportunity to make some income through this monthly event. Good for you Etiquette for helping out a local cause. THEBESTPARTIS I get to go again this month. I heard the cover is now only $ 3 dollars and the drink special is 2 – 1 well drinks until 12!!! Hope to see you all there!

I just reviewed their sister club, Element. If I had to choose which place to go to between the two I’d definitely go to Etiquette. Etiquette has a fairly big dance floor which I like and the music is good. I have been there a couple times and once for a friend’s birthday. They had table right in front of the dance floor and was able to accommodate a large party which was awesome. I haven’t been there in a while but Id go check it out again soon.

The bartenders do cool flippy tricks with the bottles and pour stiff drinks! Those two elements alone are a win in my book. In addition, Etiquette was very accommodating to a large group for VIP w/o the required bottle service. In regards to music, from what I can remember, and granted I don’t remember much… it was on hit!

I came here on my birthday and had such an awesome time! My friends and I got there around 10 and there wasn’t a line and we found places to sit at the bar easily. The place itself is pretty small, so get here early to find a place to sit. One bad thing about this place is that the booths are reserved so they ask you to move if you don’t have a reservation. Anyways, they played good music and the saxophone player is hot! ;) The bartenders are very nice — from what I remember — and the drinks were good. Usual prices for any bar/lounge in the city. Haven’t been back since my birthday, but hopefully sometime soon!

The venue is smaller than my garage. The music is alright, it really depends on the night you go. Whenever I come here, I feel like most of the people inside have zero etiquette. Drinks spilling everywhere, shoulder bumping without apologies, and a bunch of unnecessary grinding against me — I’m not trying to dance with you so quit it. +2, I’ll keep you posted. Maybe the next time around, something or someone will impress me. Eh.

Okay, I hated junior high and high school. I absolutely LOVED the music though and still do. 1990’s: Rumpshaker, Ain’t No Fun, Boyz II Men, Beasite Boys, etc. I’m not one to stand by idly as I wait for what I want and I wanted to dance AND drink! At 6pm on a Friday, dammit! I was able to collaborate with my friend DJ Enrico for a Flashback Friday Happy Hour at Etiquette. The owner Brandon totally hooked us up. The wells drinks were cheap and the music was off the hook. I was having a blast and was glistening by 8pm from dancing so much. I hope they take this idea and run w/it. Having a monthly 90’s dance happy hour would be great! So much fun and the people were great!

A SoMa Dance Club [cast] Technophile — No concept of musicianship. Will scream at every prolonged beat break like a cat under a steamroller. European Clique — Extra sweaty and rambunctious. Will pretend you’re not there as they dance around Versace bags. Sometimes Prada. Drug Chile — 16-year-old or acts like one. Too excited about everything, particularly things in pill form. Gangbanger — Is here but isn’t planning on having fun. Asian Businessman — Creepy old guy that just stands in the middle of the dance floor with arms crossed, swaying. — Etiquette has none of these, only $ 3 well drinks at happy hour and actual fun music to dance to… Win.

OHHELLLLLLLNO!!! Negative five stars!!! Etiquette sucks big fat hairy balls! Wait, scratch that, because I actually enjoy sucking balls. ETIQUETTELICKSHAIRYSHIT-ENCRUSTEDASSHOLE! And I’m trying very hard to be diplomatic! This«lounge»(more like a prison scene) must be paying people to write positive reviews about it. I can’t help but laugh when I see previous reviews describe this shithole as «awesome», «dope» and«a great time». What are these people smoking? First of all, the venue itself is tiny, filthy, and poorly ventilated. The majority of patrons look and act like they’re from the hood, which doesn’t surprise me since it’s located in a very sketchy neighborhood. Not only are people packed like a can of sardines, but damn, you can’t stand anywhere without being aggressively pushed back and forth. Calm the fuck down, people! Between the sticky floors, rude people and stupid bubble-blowing machine that made my hair frizzy, a girl fight broke out. Can we say ghetto?! Etiquette MYASS! More like ETIQUETTE-LESS!

I would give Etiquette 3.5 stars, but no halfs, and they don’t deserve a 4. So a 3 it is! For my girlfriend’s 22nd birthday, she wanted to go out in SF and do something different than the usual San Jose scene. We searched through Unilocal, and she decided on Etiquette. Getting in was a breeze — no long lines, and the bouncer was chill. The only thing that was odd was that my name didn’t show up on the guestlist, but all of my friend’s names did. bummer. but, good thing cover isn’t horrible here. free before 10:30, $ 5 after w/guestlist, and $ 10 after without. I loved the décor here. Black interior with white puffy couches and artwork that resembled something out of the 20’s(or so i think). the only thing that caught us off guard was the size. from the pictures online, it looks like Etiquette would have been much larger. However, there’s pretty much a bar area with a tiny floor, and one section off to the side for vip table service. But even with the small size, it wasn’t that big of a problem since there wasn’t too many people and it wasn’t overcrowded. Surprisingly, the music was really good here. The dj was playing all hip hop & rap. The crowd didn’t really match though. The crowd was seemed to be mostly 25+, and all white people. Nothing wrong with that, just if you’re looking for a more diverse club, this is probably not your place. And just like some others have mentioned, there was a guy who started playing the saxophone and another guy that played the drums along with the music. And it was pretty cool. The only thing that made the end of the night kind of crappy was the service from the bartenders. The bartenders here aren’t the nicest. I had read one of the reviews for Etiquette and someone mentioned that their strawberry martinis were good. So, we asked the bartender to make it, and he looked at us like we were crazy. Based on his reaction, I guessed that he didn’t know how to make it. Instead of just telling us he probably couldn’t make it, he shoved our drinks to us and got all rude. And damn, it was obvious he didn’t know what he was doing cause it was one of the worst drinks I ever had in my life. yuckkk! Overall, Etiquette is a cool place. However, I don’t know if I would come back, but only since I live in San Jose, and it’s not somewhere that I would drive all the way to the city for. But, I think that this is a place that’s great for pre drinking rather than staying at all night since the floor is small, and it’s more of a bar/lounge than club.

Yes, I’m sorry I told you that this club was«lame», but you have to remember that at the time I was dragging Ashley off the elevator at the ever-so-classy Marriott hotel and running my ass off to get back to the cab to make it over there before last call. Fortunately, you ordered bottle service and I helped myself to another drink. Or 5. I can’t remember. I felt boxed in the whole time, like there were too many people and it was a little cramped. But I liked the company that surrounded me so + for that. But screw you, other coworker, for almost making me walk without you helping me for 4 long ass blocks in HEELS and making fun of me the whole time. Asshole. That was not amusing.

Went here for my sister’s birthday party. She already had a guestlist, but we couldn’t get in because there were«too many people inside». They weren’t kidding about that… You can barely move from the entrance all the way to the otherside of the building where the bar was at since it was very packed that night. The crowdedness did ease up as the night went on. I forgot when we got there, but by around 1AM, there was more room to dance with plenty of people still there. I don’t know what’s up with the music. They play something that’s danceable to and then all of a sudden they switch to a song where it’s like«huh»? I like the seating and décor. It really blends in well. Negative one for the neighborhood it’s located in. Parking is sort of tough and bums are everywhere.

Disclaimer: My roommate is a bartender here. Be nice to her or I will cut you! Would I normally find myself regularly in a place like this? Not really. However, after a slew of events bringing me here and now with my connections to the owners/staff through my roommate, for better or worse. I’ve grown fond of it. The normal crowd is not quite to my taste, but the staff is great. You will need to be forewarned that depending on the night the scene can vary from hyphy, to standard electronica, to something resembling a Dubai discothèque. The drinks come strong and quick, but the space around the bar can get claustrophobic when the big crowds roll in past 11 on a weekend. Otherwise the space is open and I would highly recommend it for private events. The area is sketchy, but you are just across the street from the entrance to the civic center BART station and I haven’t had any problems so far. If you happen to come in on one of those nights where the crowd gets a bit too surreal, you can always jump across the corner for Mr. Smiths. Well look at that… I wrote an actual«useful» fucking review. You better recognize! However, this review is definitely NOT funny, so don’t be hitting that«funny» button. I don’t need your pity, bitches.

So I heard through the grapevine while I was at this«club» that it’s a hotel club. I don’t know if thats correct but it would explain how dead the place was. When I say dead I mean there were 5 people besides us sitting in a booth. We went over to Fluid and the place was jumping so it couldn’t have been the time. The place was very interestingly decorated. The silhouette’s in the corner are made up of really small lettering and sayings. The whole room reminded me of the Haunted Mansion. Kinda neat if it wasn’t so boring. They have a no cover guestlist and minimal charge on cards.

Dear Mr. Striped Shirt: I saw you at Etiquette last Saturday night. Trying to get all up on my girlfriends while we were kickin’ it on the dance floor. I can’t say that I blame you really. You have great taste in women because my girls are FINE. If I were you, I’d want to get with them too. But in contrast, it seems that your method in getting to know women is in rather poor taste. So indulge me and allow me to give you my unsolicited $ 0.02. While the anonymous, surreptitious bootygrind may have worked well for you before(read: in college on drunk sorority girls) that tactic is unlikely to elicit a favorable response here. Etiquette is some classy digs and consequently, there are some classy womenfolk up in here. Maybe it’s time to try something else hmm?

Being as I was here for a Unilocal Elite event, my take on this place is going to be influenced by the copious amounts of free booze and munchies I was provided. Despite that obvious pandering to my goodwill, I think this place may have a shot at being someplace cool to go to. Granted it’s in a supremely dodgy area BUT it’s my steadfast belief that all it takes to turn the crappy areas into desireable places to live/work/play is businesses like Etiquette. Hey it worked for Hayes Valley didn’t it? The décor felt a little bit like Harlot to me and it IS smaller than the pics convey. However, the drinks were strong and the munchies were quite yummy and the service and entertainment spot on. It definitely set the mood for a really fun evening.

One star got shot, stabbed, robbed and left for dead. The crime was reported(surprisingly) but absolutely nothing was done about it(unsurprisingly.) The Mission district around Market and 7th isn’t even safe for stars. Unlike the poor star, I made it safely inside and what an inside it is. Black, red, and gold décor with smooth lines everywhere, like a cokehead vampire mansion only slightly safer. There are plenty of nooks and cushioned corners to snog in, and in case you need a jump start there’s hidden porn all over the place. The bartenders fit this place like a satin glove, delivering fast drinks with a smile even when the person ordering doesn’t know what they want because they’re a piss-poor drink orderer due to being by delicious, succulent breasts surrounding them from all angles. Not only are the bartenders –not– distracted by said wonderful, wonderful breasts but they are patient with those who are. Breasts, breasts, boobs… hmmm… Hold on, hidden PORN? Yes. If you look closely at the bar, there are illustrations of sexual pairings, positions, penises, punana printed on the wood in black lacquer. The fancy«paintings» on the wall of the dashing gentleman and sexy lady? They’re nude. I have it on good authority their clothes were –projected– onto their skin; if only I were that lucky. You know — it’s sad, because I did send 5 stars to Etiquette; the remaining 4 are simply inconsolable without their fifth. Maybe someday that area will be safe and the fifth star will rise from the dead no actually I’m just kidding it never will and that’s too bad.

Etiquette is a sexy new lounge that just opened last night, on Market and 7th Street, right next to Café do Brasil and pretty close to Mr. Smith’s. The interior is deceiving, in a good way. There’s the obvious bar, well-appointed and sure to be the main pointing of mingling, but more interesting are the«seating parlors» you notice next. Each area is somewhat compartmentalized, sort of discombobulating at first, but then again perfect for more intimate conversation or as a vantage point to observe the social behavior of the other patrons. The red glowing book shelves — complete with white books — are a trip, and if you’ve ever wondered what the back of a bookshelf looks like, you’ll finally know. Most of the space has a bit of a Hollywood Regency meets gothic feel to it, or maybe that’s just me reminiscing about the naughty room(my name, not theirs!), complete with what seems to be shiny black vinyl seating! The cocktail menu is starting to shape up(try the refreshing yet potent Adam’s Leaf), and I’m sure after a few libations even Emily Post would leave her decorum at the coat check.

I used to work at nightclubs when I was living in San Francisco another lifetime(okay, five years) ago, so while this has generally made me mindful and considerate of the staff(read: I make an effort to not act like an entitled-ass douchebag), I also don’t have very high expectations for venues out here, especially given their proximity to Market Street. I was pleasantly surprised by Etiquette however. Even though nothing was particularly distinctive about the venue itself, we were treated well by the staff, drinks were nice and strong, the bathroom was in decent condition, no one was having sex in the corners or in the VIP lounges, and the music was great. I’m probably a little biased about the music because our friend from college spins there some Saturday nights, but the other DJ was pretty good too — and gotta love the guy with the saxophone playing along to the jams! Nice place to go with a handful of GROWN friends to have a drink or two(or three) and get your groove on.
