Embarcadero Dental Center

If I can, I even don’t want to give a star for their front desk. I had an appointment and ask them to reschedule it to another time and was told it’s all set. But the day before the appointment, the front desk called and told me that the new time doesn’t work because the doctor I need to see is not even in that day. Moreover, they promised to give me a quote on my treatment but never did it several weeks after that.

Since moving to SF, I have had major dental issues. I was lucky enough to find Dr. A. He is passionate about dentistry. The business is not run on high volume, therefore he gives you great personal attention and care each time you come in. If you want a great thorough dentist, Embarcadero Dental Center is the best.

I call them «dental zealots» because they believe so passionately in dentistry. I happen to like that because I think being passionate about your job means there is a higher likelihood that you will be good at it. I have been going to them for several years and have no complaints (well, I had one once but they worked really hard to rectify the situation, even going so far as giving me a free, expensive electric toothbrush which I LOVE!) but have had mixed results with sending other people to them. I guess everyone has different expectations of what they want from a dentist. I would say that if you really care about your teeth and don’t mind spending a little more for passion and technology (they have state-​of-​the-​art equipment which they are constantly updating and the nicest décor I’ve ever seen at a dentist’s) then they are for you. If you want the cheapest dentist you can find then they are not.

They are nice and they do good very work but are on the pricey side, they do not notify you in advance when prices go up & I keep having to pay more and more for my cleaning which is technically supposed to be fully covered by my dental insurance, that is my only issue is they try to sneak price increases by you and do them often. They sent my bill for more $ (above what they charged when I went in) to an old address and then tried to charge me late fees/​finance charges for a bill I never received and did not know existed.
Update (as of April 2008) they are MUCH better now about being upfront on expected cost of service & what insurance is likely to cover/​not cover. A welcomed improvement! Still a bit pricey but high quality of service & easy to get to if you work in the FiDi.
