I’ve been coming here for years until I became allergic to corn. I wish pupusas were made in flour too! Anyway, aside from my tummy no longer allowing corn this place is amazing. They make everything fresh, you choose your meat, then you get rice, beans and cheese. It is all topped with a vinegary unique El Salvadorian slaw. The service is fast, the food is amazing, hot bubbly and tangy too. I love this place!

I called into El Salvador to inquire about placing a large what would essentially be a «catering» order. Someone answered the phone and said Buenos Dias, I responded politely and said«Good Morning, I am calling to see about getting a quote for catering» and the woman hung up in my face. I call back reluctantly and say«I just called asking about catering and she said«NO» I said so you don’t do them or are you confused with my question, and she proceeded to hang up again. I don’t think I’d ever give this company my business due to the extreme lack of respect to the customer. This was terrible first impression and very rude. It’s pretty rude to just hang up on someone who is simply trying to give you their business. Customer Service is key, and they clearly are lacking. Makes me wonder how the food even tastes. Oh well.

Customer service horrible, they never answer the phone. It is really frustrating and when you decide to go instead of a to go the orders take up to 45 mins. The ladies do not even care about the business. Sorry but they need to hire someone with better skills on customer service.

Service was good, liked the menu. Small place with a smaller kitchen. Clean though. Thought the food was a bit bland. I’ve never had Salvadoran papusas so I might be back someday to try them out.

Tasty and comforting homemade Salvadorian food. El Salvador restaurant is a small operation with a lot of heart. The restaurant is very casual, but you get full and very friendly table service. I tried the fried yuca with chicharron and the mixed pupusas(chicarron plus cheese). Everything was good. I am a big fan of yuca in general and fried yuca specifically. Sometimes I think they are better than potato fries. The chicharron was crispy, juicy, and flavorful, but I always just want more of it. The pupusas were good. Not the best I have had in the Bay Area, but certainly respectable. El Salvador restaurant is a great option for a quick casual lunch or dinner with a few friends when in the mood for some authentic Central American food.

Headed down the Mission one day for lunch and stopped in for their papusas. The restaurant wasn’t terribly busy, but they make their food fresh to order, so my only suggestion is to order in advance. We had two bean/cheese and two cheese/locoro(local Salvadorian flower) and they were delicous. The lady at the register gave two good servings of the pickled slaw and sauce for the papusas. I’d go back again, particulary for take out.

I had some amazing pupusas stuffed with beans and zucchini. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Great authentic food with a great atmosphere. The Tamarindo juice was refreshing and delicious. Will definitely go back again!

If you’re looking for pupusas, etc. and are in the area, this is a great little Salvadoran diner. Mission Street is sketchy, but you’ll make it. Selection of pupusa fillings is small, but they’re delicious and gluten-free, so I don’t care. They’re also a little cheaper than Panchitas(just barely), and the staff is friendly. They even tolerated my janky Spanish-speaking. Will definitely go back. Credit card minimum is $ 10

Delicious non American style breakfast. Basic, ethnic, and very satisfying. I was in the mission district around 10am. Most places were closed and I am very glad that I found this place. I will return.

The restaurant was really good. They have an issue with space as the get filled up very fast, and the waitress that handled the checks was new and really inexperienced but the food was awesome. We ordered pupusas«forgive spelling please» and the made them in the kitchen right there fresh with the grilled taste. We did have a little mix up with our order but it was resolved quickly without hassle. The place was very clean looking on the inside(compared to the outside and the area) as well as the bathroom was extremely clean in order for you to take care of your business without worry. Overall 4 star service because of the mix up, but 5 stars for cleanliness and food.

Pupusas were good but everything else was very bland. The service was good too. Not an authentic Salvadoran restaurant. The broth from the chicken soup tasted like packaged soup and the horchata was made from powder.

The Horchata, was awful. The waitress told me that it was an authentic Salvadorean Horchata but, it was far from being authentic. It tastes like Mexican Horchata with a lot of cinnamon. For my meal, I had platanos Fritos con casamiento. The meal was not great either.

Yummy yummy for my tummy. Was in the neighborhood waiting on a tattoo appointment on a nearby road, Guerrero St, so I stopped in here to grab some Tamales and Pupusas. I ordered an Horchata too. All was great! My sister ordered casamieñto, blended beans, and platanos fritos con crema. Que bueno! My mother is from El Salvador, and I must say, the food is authentic. Fast service, polite, and clean. Would good again for sure.

My roommate was craving pupupas, and I never say no to pupusas. Thanks to Unilocal,we found El Salvador. It’s a mom-and-pop shop where your pupupsa order comes with two. I ordered the one with cheese and an edible flower. I couldn’t taste the flower. I don’t even know if it has a taste. But it was really good, especially with the salsa, and under $ 6. I got to try the tamarindo, and I wish I ordered one! It was delicious, and fresh. I wish you can mix and match pupupas, but if you’re with a group, you can order different ones and share.

Really good pupusas I am 100 percent salvadoreño and I loved them. Ordered the(revueltas) with beans and two tamales De elote. I requested for them to fry the tamales and the did. I’m happy with the service and the authentic taste. Plus they serve beer. That makes it a 5 star

I was craving pupusas and happened to be in the area and ended up here. Pupusas were great! Cooked to order and the horchata was really good too. The revueltas are my pupusa of choice.

I had cheese and bean pupusas, as well as a horchata. The pupusas were very well done, and when combined with the amazing sauce, phenomenal. The horchata was also very good: super sweet tasting. The only bad thing about this place is that it took super, super long!

As an Caribbean-American chef I can say by far this is the best El Salvadorian in San Francisco. It’s fresh, authentic, and it reminds me so much of my mother’s cooking. My family and I will definitely be back.

Visiting from out of town. This was the closest to where we stayed at. Pupusas were good. Platano frito plate and eggs with chorizo good. Staff was nice. Good service for the time it took to sit down eat and leave. I would visit again. Pupusas a little pricey from what I am used to paying. Overall good experience.
