Came here with a friend on a Saturday evening around 6pm and was able to get seated immediately. The place sports a nice modern look with a comfortable atmosphere for having a nice chat. My friend and I opted to order 3 small plates and one entrée. The price points of the dishes can be a bit high, but given that it is a nicer restaurant in the Union Square area, it isn’t too unreasonable. From his recommendation, we got the chickpea fries and the Indonesian corn fritters. The chickpea fries tasted very similarly to falafels, but came in long rectangular strips with a curry aioli sauce. They were not what I expected at all, but was very delicious, being hot and presented very nicely in a Chaokoh coconut milk can. I felt that the sauce was a bit lacking in flavor and didn’t add much to the dish though the fries were quite excellent on their own. The Indonesian corn fritters were a wonderful delight as well. I enjoyed the light crisp of the fritters alongside the sweet tangy chili soy sauce. It’s a small plate I would definitely recommend. Other than my friend’s recommendations, we decided to try the Lapsang Souchong tea deviled eggs and the braised lamb noodle. The tea deviled eggs weren’t mind blowing amazing compared to most well made deviled eggs, but I thought the tea flavor in the egg did make it unique and added some nice flavor into the creamy mix. It really makes me want to try using tea eggs the next time I cook deviled eggs for an event. The braised lamb noodle was absolutely amazing despite the portion size feeling a bit small. The lamb had that nice mild gamey flavor in it and went well with the chillies and sauce. The noodles were truly the star of the dish however, being wonderfully chewy and hand cut. I give the braised lamb noodles some high recommendations as well.

This place rocks! The happy hour(starts at 3!) is awesome. The restaurant is nice and we sat ourselves at the bar right away. We started with Moscow Mules($ 6!) which were really good, I liked the ginger beer they used. From there, we got the corn fritters, ahi tuna tartare, spare rib, and two butternut squash dumplings. All the food was great, especially the spare rib! We ended with one more Moscow Mule which was disappointing :(it tasted completely different(and waaay sweeter) than the last one. Maybe he forgot the vodka! But other than that, a good experience! They messed up on our check at the end but happily changed it.

The food here was decent, nothing spectacular. Service would’ve been fine if our server hadn’t had lost my fiancé’s corporate credit card. Somehow, the card fell in between the cracks of the wall and the register station. They’d asked us to come back for it once the restaurant closed because they had to saw down the station to retrieve the card. Being that it was inconvenient for us, we told them to drop it off to our location. Long story short; 10:00pm passes and we’re waiting for their phone call. We don’t hear a word from them so we decide to call them at 10:40 pm. We call a couple of times and it goes straight to the answering machine. We leave a message. They finally call us at 12:45 am and by the time we receive the card, it’s a little past 1:00 am. 3 hours past their closing time?! They drop off the card to the front desk of our hotel and disappear without saying a word, which is very odd. And not to mention, they scratched up the card badly! All in all, we had a bad experience dining here. The whole situation made things very inconvenient for us, as we weren’t from town and had other things planned for the night but failed to do so. :(

We were able to be seated right away on a Monday evening at 7pm. After sitting and looking at the menu, it took 10 mins to get offered a water. We sat for about 20 mins and had been ready to order, no one had come to check on us or take our order. We saw the server who gave us waters but he was lingering, not checking on anyone just hanging back. We made eye contact several times to indicate we’d like to be checked up on. At one point we simply just asked, «Excuse me, are you our waiter.» He said yes and than proceeded to take our order, no apology for the wait. We received our food rather quickly. Got the deviled eggs and butternut squash dumplings. YUM. I could have eaten more of the eggs. Than got their signature burger with the Kim Chi. Yum! We realized that throughout our meal, our waiter not once, checked up on us to ask us how we were doing or anything. Our water was refilled by a gentleman walking around filling waters. Than he came to offer us dessert menus, and simply just set them down and walked away, didn’t even engage with us. We made a point to seek him out and ask for the check, who knows when he would of come to bring it. Tldr: food was great, server was terrible.

First, let me start by saying props to E&O for taking reservations for a party of 8 on a Saturday. I don’t know how many places my friend had to call in order to get reservations for her birthday but this place definitely pulled through. The ambience is perfect for a celebration or a date. It has a good balance of sophistication but modern. The funky thing is that the bathroom is at the front of the restaurant and down a flight of stairs lol. But most importantly the food and drinks here are amazing!!! My friend and I shared the satay platter which has a variety of 4 different satay sticks and we ordered a side of rice. The birthday girl ordered the shaking beef. All the meats were cooked to perfection and the portions are decent. Someone in our party also ordered the butternut squash dumplings and though they were tasty, the portion was very small. Also, I highly recommend the Tequila Strawberry drink.

I thought I reviewed this place already… I came here on a Tuesday night after work with my friend and it was pretty packed already, which I take is always a good sign. And without my boyfriend there to stop me, we ordered way too many dishes… so here they are! First of all, it’s ALL about the Butternut Squash Dumplings and the Indonesian Fried Rice. I don’t know what makes the fried rice Indonesian but it’s certainly delicious(if anyone knows, please let me know). The rice was cooked just right and not dry at all. The dumplings were soft and the Thai red curry lemongrass sauce was amazing! Indonesian Corn Fritters — meh, just corn fritters but tasted more like fried thing than corn. Beef Short Rib Sliders — a little oily, too dry. Comes with taro chips but I’m not too much of a fan but my friend said they were delicious. Portobello Mushroom Satay — too much sauce. My friend gave me a weird look when I told him because sauce is important. I agree but I don’t want my veggies drowned in this sauce. I’d still like to taste mushroom if possible… Dry Fried Green Beans — I always order this because I’m on a mission to find a good Dry Fried Green Beans to restore my boyfriend’s «faith» in this dish. It’s one of my favorite Chinese veggie dishes but every time we order it, it fails us. So if any of you know a place with really good 四季豆, please let me know! I’d come again to keep trying other dishes for sure!

This place is awesome! My partner and I decided to treat ourselves during their happy hour and I could not get over how delicious everything tasted! The oysters, the cocktails, the pu pu platter… it was all great! It’s easy to get drunk there with the discounted cocktails: P The waiter who served us was also very very friendly and super awesome! I accidentally ordered a chicken satay in addition to our pu pu platter and he waived the charge. This is the epitome of great food and great service!

Came here with my husband and brother who took the Bart over from Berkeley. We wanted a nice place that wouldn’t break the bank completely, and we found it. Very nice ambiance and amazing food. We order a bottle of the Malbec(only one on the menu)… Great taste and very reasonably priced. For food we had the shrimp satay, chicken curry, shaking beef, and pad Thai. All were amazing! I loved the pickled veggies that came with the satay. Our server, tommy, was really a gem. He is the epitome of what it means to provide service. He knew what we wanted before we wanted it and he took really good care of us. Any time I’m in SF I’ll be going to E & O and asking for him!

Really a 4.5: extra pts for service, minus ½ pt as a few dishes flopped. Overall we still strongly recommend E&O. We have eaten here since it first opened back in 1997. Never inexpensive, but comfortable chairs, nice atmosphere and excellent service support some very good food from Chef Sharon Nahm. 5 star: Lapsang Souchong Tea Deviled Eggs. Very expensive, priced per half-egg. Tea soaking gives a deep smokiness to the egg that wowed me. DH not as fond of smoky flavors as I am but agreed these were very fine, well above average and a creative take on what is usually a pleasant but boring dish at many places. Tamarind & Hoisin Spare Ribs. Love Durock pork and glaze here is masterfully done. Meaty and yummy. Citrus coleslaw was adored by DH; we like very light, balanced dressings and this hit the spot. If you care only about Instagramming, this might not impress you – this is a pairing about taste, to make your mouth sing with delight. Lamb Naan. Best of the best. OMG this was good… like, fight over the last piece, «when can we come back again and have this?» good. In a state filled with fine ethnic meat pies, this one ranks as one of the best we’ve had in 40 yrs of spending more $$$ than we should dining out. Greaseless, super-spicy, flaky! Served with cucumber raita and roasted tomato chutney, both of which were fab with the naan. Astounds us that the many Bay Area Indian/Nepalese/Himalayan places cannot produce anything even close to this perfection. Char Siu Roasted Black Cod(entrée). Disappointed this was local sablefish, not the Alaskan black cod we prefer. But delicious – altho still had long, easy-to-remove rib bones – with that soft texture this fish has. Served with sautéed water spinach. Apple Panna Cotta. Sad how unimaginative most pastry chefs are with panna cotta. But here, the use of green apples for flavoring was inspired. This was like a tart, barely sweetened, really good apple yoghurt. A touch of caramel drizzle and pouf of whipped cream were just the right additions. I love green apples and this was superb. 2 Stars: Satay Your Way – 4 satays(chicken, prawns, beef, and mushroom), pickled vegetables, rice. E&O has always been uneven on the satays and this continues. I liked the beef, DH liked the small but fresh prawns. Chicken and Portobello satays a waste of time. Overall, so many other restaurants do satay better and cheaper, don’t even bother with E&O’s dish. Order something else, like another plate of those ribs! Pickles, btw, were excellent. Bananamisu: Espresso ladyfingers, banana mascarpone mousse, plantain chip. This sounded intriguing, but wasn’t. The chocolate sauce on the plate and the generous dusting of cocoa on top combined to completely overwhelm any banana flavor. Again, kudos to service staff, who were uniformly excellent. Appreciate the hostess allowing us(as a couple) to sit at a 4-top after we said we were ordering a lot of food. The 2-tops are suitable only if you are eating a simple rice-with-something plate; the 4-top has sufficient dining RE to handle multiple starters with their dips, plus various glasses.

Came here for happy hour(4−6pm) with 2 friends and it was the best decision yet! Cheap drinks & food, what else can you ask? I ordered a Moscow mule and wasn’t disappointed. But the most exciting part of this HH has to be… THEFOOD! We ordered dollar oysters and their infamous pupu platter(has 2 of everything). Out of all the goodies, from short rib sliders, to chicken skewers, my favorite would have to be the corn fritters! I took a bite out of it and knew I wanted to save it for my last! Great place to come with some coworkers and/or friends after work!

I came to E&O with two of my friends for happy hour! We saw E&O had really good happy hour deals so we were pretty excited. We got there at around 5 pm and it wasn’t crowded at all. The interior and ambiance of the restaurant is super intimate and the lighting is dark! Very nice for a happy hour with friends or date night. :-) We ordered 30 oysters($ 30) and the pupu platter for two($ 22) and added on another person on our pupu platter for $ 10! The pupu platter comes with a variety of their appetizers– ahi tuna tartare, beef short rib sliders, pork spare ribs, corn fritters, chicken satay skewers, taro chips and pickled veggies! We thought this was a good deal because we got to try multiple items from the menu. I would say my favorite app was the corn fritters! I love corn and anything fried so it was basically those two together haha. The chicken satay skewers were also realllly well cooked/juicy and went well with the peanut sauce. We actually got two rounds of oysters(split 15⁄15) and the first round was pretty small, but the second round ones were huge! Also loved the kimchi cocktail sauce! I didn’t get a drink but my friends got beer and a cocktail, and they enjoyed their drinks! Maybe next time for me! I wouldn’t mind coming back for HH but their normal menu items do seem a bit pricey. The service was awesome though! Our waiter was really friendly and was always checking up on us.

Stopped in to E&O for a small snack at their Happy Hour. They had a great selection of food and drinks from 3PM until 6PM. I had .5 dozen of the raw oysters and four butternut squash dumplings in a red curry sauce. Both were magnificent and had a tall 21st amendment sully beer to wash it down. The place was packed and would definitely go back to try something else.

This place reminds me of PF Chang’s, but more expensive and probably catered towards tourists since it’s in Union Square, and business travelers. With higher price points, it’s fine if you’re expensing your meal to your company, but I probably wouldn’t come back, given other options for Asian food, and Asian fusion in San Francisco. I guess it’s good for big groups and tourists, but there are far better places out in the city that you’re missing out on if you eat here! Chicken Satay($ 13) — They at least use free-range chicken, but this is expensive for what it is. I’ve had similar chicken satay at Thai restaurants for half the price. Get this if you really are craving chicken satay, but I’d pass on this and save it for the next time you go to a hole-in-the-wall Thai restaurant. Butternut Squash Dumplings($ 13) — These are a bit pricey for dumplings, since you get 6 of them for $ 13. If you’re really craving dumplings, go to a place that specialized in dumplings in the Outer Sunset. But if you’re craving dumplings and willing to pay a little bit more, then these are fine. The sweet butternut squash filling makes it taste like a butternut squash ravioli, and almost a little bit on the dessert side since it’s sweet. Good, but not amazing. Indonesian Corn Fritters($ 9) — As if you couldn’t tell by the name, these are pieces of corn, held together by batter and deep fried into small-burger-sized patties. If you don’t like food with spices or cumin, it’s best to avoid these. They are good and a better bang for your buck than some of the other appetizers, but almost any thing deep-fried is good. Cod with Water Spinach($ 27) — I love a nicely cooked miso glazed cod, but for $ 27 it was a little bit lackluster. It seemed like they just sautéed spinach in a pan and threw a small piece of fish on it. It wasn’t bad, but not worth $ 27. It’s similar to PF Chang’s cod, but at a more expensive price. I was hungry when I finished my entrée. If you’re not paying out of your own pocket, this is a fine place to go if you’re looking for somewhere to seat a big party, or you’re traveling, staying in Union Square and want something close by. I wouldn’t make a special trip to come back here — there are many other restaurants in the city that I would recommend over this one for Asian fusion, at more reasonable prices.

We are staying, in SF financial district. We wanted a late lunch recommendation, not far from the hotel, when we arrived. A hotel employee recommended this place, if we didn’t want to go into Chinatown. Happy Hour had started and they were still serving lunch. We ordered happy hour drinks and appetizers and a couple of lunch meals. The service seemed like it was going to be really good, when we first got there, then it slowed down. Items seemed like they had been forgotten. Water glasses were never refilled. It wasn’t worth the amount we paid, even with some happy hour prices. The atmosphere is nice. The décor has a nice vibe. The tables are well spaced and of various types; booths, high tops… The fried rice would have been perfect, with just vegetables. The pork was pretty tough. The chicken satay was good, as were the dumplings. Our friends had the raw oysters. They were tiny, for $ 1 an oyster.

Quite a nice little modern/contemporary Asian fusion restaurant nestled into an inconspicuous block near Union Square. A rather large space, smartly decorated, with good energy and nice servers. The food is a B+ and not an A+, but you can tell they made accommodations for mass appeal here. If you’re a foodie who’s used to Asian cuisine, it won’t knock your socks off. But your conservative Aunt from the midwest will like everything on the menu. No fish heads, no blood cakes, no chicken feet here. Tasty if conventional food, friendly waiters, a beautiful open space. You pay a bit more for the ambiance, but it’s San Francisco and their rent is probably ten million dollars a month, so cut them some slack.

To be honest, I’m not into restaurants near Union Square because I automatically(but not unjustifiably!) think it’s mostly overpriced. and especially for Asian food when Chinatown is steps away. I’d rather walk. The only reason why we came was for our boss’ going away. BUT — I’m glad I was proved wrong. The interior is spacious and beautiful, great place to bring a date or a small group after a long day of shopping or walking around. I’m guessing this place doesn’t get ridiculously crowded as It was easy to make a reservation for 10 for a weekday lunch. Probably because it’s not really on the ‘main strip’ downtown though it’s certainly in extremely close walking proximity… I definitely want to come back and check out happy hour(it’s on Saturdays as well!) We got quite a few items but I can’t remember all of them — everything was good and, yes, a bit overpriced, but you’re in Union Square soo. yea. The highlight though was definitely the BUTTERNUTSQUASHDUMPLINGS! I’m a stickler on dumplings so again, my expectations were not high for these at all but HOLYSHITTHEY’REASGOODASEVERYONEELSEHASSAID. IThey’re shaped like big raviolis and SO. DECADENT. Would order multiple of these if I came back for HH!

Cool place to stop by for drinks and apps for happy hour. Drink prices are reasonable and there is a decent selection. Check their website or call for updated information. The corn fritters are a must. The sauce that comes with them compliments them perfectly. The ambiance is very sleek. There is bar seating and high top tables that can accommodate groups. The bathroom is sort of a long walk downstairs, but that is neither here nor there, just giving you a heads up. If you are on crutches, this might be a pain… The food here is also tasty and interesting. Most dishes have some sort of asian influence, hence the Asian Fusion description. I had an office holiday lunch there one time(planned and organized by me) and everything worked out great! This is a solid choice for any occasion and the service has always been polite and friendly, and professional. I’m not sure why it has taken me so long to review. I’ve been going here for at least 8 years.

A hop, skip and a jump away from our Grand Hyatt hotel and what a find. Wife and I went there for dinner on a Friday night and with reservations got seated right away. Our table was upstairs which was significantly quieter and more cozy than downstairs. We ordered the Satay Sampler, butternut squash dumplings, corn fritters and Long Life House Noodles. Everything was great esp. the dumplings and fritters. Service was ok… waiter seemed pre-occupied but still got our order right and drinks were flowing. Seemed like he was engaged until we ordered just one entrée to share and then we «lost» him… just my gut feeling. All in all a nice restaurant with an interesting menu. Will definitely return and recommend this place. From all the other Unilocal reviews it seems Happy Hour is a good time to be here.

The happy hour here is awesome and they have happy hour on Saturdays! During happy hour we ordered the ahi tuna, corn fritters, and dumplings. The dumplings were by far the best we’ve had… a must try! Also, cocktails are $ 6 at happy hour. The Moscow Mule and Maple Old Fashioned were great. Overall happy hour gets 5 stars! We also ate dinner here which is was very underwhelming, hence the 3 star review. Pad Thai had a weird flavor and too many peppers that were not cooked. The Moroccan Curry Chicken was okay, not horrible but not amazing. I would definitely go back for happy hour, but skip the dinner and try somewhere else.

Came here for a new year’s lunch with my boss and coworkers and was pleasantly surprised by the serving size of the appetizers and main dishes. We started out with deviled tea eggs, papaya salad and fried calamari. E&O is a combination of Asian foods around the world with a leaning toward Southeast Asian cuisine. Though the papaya salad wasn’t the best, both the deviled tea eggs and the fried calamari was incredibly flavored. Our Pad Thai also turned out to be somewhat of a disappointment, because they mixed in a disproportionately large amount of filler items – tofu, pickles, shrimp, etc. to noodles, and because it tasted heavily doused in soy sauce. Our side dishes of brussel sprouts and eggplant saved the main meal. When dessert rolled around, we were all craving something sweet because of the saltiness of the Pad Thai. I finished my meal with the coconut pandan ice cream which they topped with a large very gingery ginger cookie. Overall, the ambience of the restaurant is calming. We felt taken care of but not bothered. I would come again to try another main entrée and enjoy the superbly done sides.

This is my go-to happy hour spot. Seriously it’s the best happy hour downtown with great drink and food specials. The service here is absolutely top notch. On more than one occasion when it’s been too crowded, the amazing guys behind the bar have helped to shuffle people around and make room for us. They really make this a special place. I would frequent any bar that they tended. The Moscow mule and old fashioned(now called the maple bourbon) are great cocktails. The pupu platter(for two) has all the highlights of the bar menu(sans the squash dumplings). Once when I came in a group of three, they easily added another portion onto the platter. My favorite bar bites are the short rib sliders, the ahi tuna tar tar, and the chicken satay. The $ 1 oysters and $ 1 dumplings are also winners. You really can’t go wrong on the happy hour menu.

I feel like the best way to describe E&O’s is like a more Asian-leaning cuisine version of Cheesecake Factory – as in they pull from all sorts of ethnic foods, are decent, and nice for a special birthday outing. However, maybe not my usual dining ambiance(it’s somewhere fit for a business dinner), and a little on the pricier end(this is the city after all). First was the BUTTERNUTSQUASHDUMPLINGS, and these were bombbb! By far the best dish though it was a small starer. We had the CHICKPEAFRIES as well, deep fried sticks of chickpea mash covered in tempura with what I want to say is a Dijon mustard dip. Our entrees were the 4-PIECE SATAY, the PADKEEMAO, and the EGGPLANTSIDE, all of which were tasty – nothing too oversalted which can be an issue with Asian food(that MSG thooo). The PADKEEMAO was a little past white girl spicy(but could be well handled by the flaming hot regulars), but bland as a dish. The EGGPLANTSIDE though omg! It’s pretty oily for the health conscious but the future heart attack is so worth it! Great for pairing with rice. The 4-PIECE SATAY had 4 skewers of your choice plus rice: 2 mushroom, shrimp, and chicken. Only had the chicken but could say it was dry and the most blah tasting thing of the day. The venue is business fancy, with a seating area in the front that looked straight out of Z Gallerie. I’m not sure I’d come back though since I just don’t think it was that spectacular when you can definitely have more unique dining experiences in the city. Service was also a little slack(our table got overlooked so many times), which is the downside of being young looking college students :/HH might’ve been a better fit.

One of my many reviews I’ve yet to publish… I’ve been there a few times now for the trifecta: once for lunch, once for HH, and once for dinner. HH would probably be my favorite though, if I had to choose. =) Lunch: Came here to celebrate my former boss’s birthday and started with the corn fritters, per her recommendation and if I know one thing about my former boss, she does not steer anyone in the wrong direction. It’s also one of the more popular items on the menu it seems, and with good reason. A mouthful of crispy deliciousness dipped with sweet and tangy chili soy sauce. However, the pad thai that I ordered as my entrée was a bit off the mark for my taste, bland and underwhelming. Happy Hour: Booked a reservation in advance for a decent sized party and when we showed up, everything was already set up for us. Of course, from previous experience I opted for the corn fritters, though the ones from the HH menu are smaller in portion than the regular lunch/dinner menu. The sampler included the house ribs and some sliders but the portions and price ratio left a bit to be desired. Dinner: Lastly, a vendor treated me out for dinner and the first thing out of my mouth were the corn fritters lol. Luckily, we were there at the tail end of HH and we were able to sneak in an order of oysters and drinks. For the entrée, I went with the shaking beef, cooked with red onions, tomatoes, chilies, and watercress. Nothing from the dish really blew me away to make a lasting impression but c’est la vie. Overall, E&O is a solid option if you’re looking for a sit down place for HH and a venue that doesn’t get too noisy.

We came here this evening with a group of four and we’re throughly pleased with our meal! Easy to get to location and the atmosphere was Asian inspired tying back to the Asian fusion cuisine. Our friends were happy with their Restaurant Week options including a three course meal with sizable portions and had leftovers to take home. We went ahead and ordered from the a la carte menu and here are our thoughts: — Butternut squash dumplings: so so good. Served with a delicious panang curry. Must get. — Indonesian corn fritters: if you love corn, you will love this dish. If not, might not be your thing as its literally fried corn. — Burger with kimchi, aoili, added fried egg, bacon and white cheddar served with fries: I was really craving a burger but it didn’t quite hit the spot. Not sure why; perhaps the beef was not flavorful enough. — Drunken noodles: smaller portion compared to our other dishes but also nothing special. — Chicken dumplings: were a OK. Nothing to write home about. — goat cheese salad: was very fresh and the cheese was nice. Service was really friendly, accommodating and patient. Five stars there! Overall enjoyed the experience but probably wouldn’t come here a second time.

I’m glad this place has less than a 4 star rating on Unilocal because it keeps the masses away from spot right in the middle of tourist central. We came for happy hour and ordered the oysters and pu pu platter which had short run sliders(slightly dry but very good), corn fritters(light and airy), pork ribs(salty for my taste), tuna tartare(fresh), and chicken satay(not dry). The oysters were the best part. At one dollar each they were a bargain and compared to Hog Island’s. Great place for a date and service was friendly and fast. Go for happy hour before this place gets popular.

Wow. Where has this place been in my life?! I have never had calamari this delicious before. Our entire group came here for NYE and could not have been happier, they were nice enough not to gouge the customer’s with a chef’s tasting of $ 100-$ 150 like other restaurants were doing to take advantage of the new year. We started with the calamari, crispy, fresh, not overly battered– sauce was incredible– what a great start to the last meal of 2015. Then we had the naan, which was fluffy, came with two delicious sauces and was like pita of the gods. We ordered a bunch of app’s, so what followed was the corn fritters which were like little bites of heaven and crunchy beyond belief. We had so many other dishes as well, that i cannot possibly remember now– but they were all spectacular… oh wait, we had the beef black sauce as well, which was quite tasty. This place is great, priced well, great staff, amazing ambiance and location and the food is spectacular. I will be coming back as soon as I come in the area again!

They weren’t juicy at all– but honestly they’re a buck each so what can you expect. Table of 6 got 1 ½ dozen but we didn’t end up finishing the batch Pupu Platter= 5 stars for sure, at $ 22 a such a good value. Tuna Tartar bites are perfect and the corn fritters managed to be light. Really cool happy hour! My boyfriend was craving oysters for a really long time and saw this place on . It promoted $ 1 oysters and dumplings… so I obviously had to try this place out. Happy hour goes from 3 – 6 I think Monday — Saturday. Beer is $ 4, cocktails are $ 6, and the hh food menu ranges from $ 1 – 6. I mainly came for the oysters. They were fresh and pretty good. Downside is that they were the tiny ones, so you go through them really quickly!!! Watch out if you are on a budget! If you don’t like oysters, definitely get the dumplings!!! It was so tasty ahi tuna was alright, wouldn’t pay $ 3 for one. My friends got the sliders and they came with a side of taro chips, this was also good. The waiter was super nice and helpful. I love how happy hour was ending and he came around and told us about last round. This gave us time to really order the last minute beers and extra order of oysters. So thumbs up to the service. We didn’t have to wait for a table and they could accommodate a large party. I definitely will come here again and want to try the dinner menu. Will update my review once I get that a try, but the hh is on point!

The only thing I liked at this restaurant was the ambiance and the corn fritters. It’s a great place to go for a business lunch(upscale place in fidi). I would classify it as an Asian fusion place. It is like a more expensive version of PF Changs. The main entrees were not great we tried the Indonesian fried rice and the cod fish which were not that great and service here is very slow. Literally, it took like 30 – 40 minutes once we were seated to get our drink orders in. If I came here again I would stick to the appetizers like the chicken satay, edamame, Brussels sprouts, and corn fritters.

Great after work oasis, conveniently located near Sutter Stockton Garage and 1 California and 38 Geary bus lines, I have been an off and on since the roaring 1990’s. The menu is made up of a lot of sweet and savory flavor combos — corn fritters and mushroom satays come to mind. One crunchy highlight is the pickled veggie medley that accompanies many of the happy hour appetizers. Speaking of Happy Hour, they’ve got a great one — and you can usually find a little seat at the bar is you wait about 5 minutes max. Friendly, no-nonsense bartenders who don’t mind mixing a craft cocktail make it a winner as well.

I’ve been here a couple of times before years ago, but I’m giving it five stars because of my most recent experience. You see, I was with a group of friends celebrating a birthday. We were out boating around the bay, drinking wine and eating cheese and, when it was time for dinner, one friend suggested«let’s all go out for dinner!» and everybody was like, «sure, that’s a great idea!» and the birthday girl was like«omg, yes, I want dinner» and then we all realized that it was Saturday, it was 6pm, and we were a group of 10 people. No one would be able to sit us at the last minute. Then, I was like, «wait, I know of a place that has good food, good drinks, and is huuuuge» so I called and asked if the could sit us, and the hostess was like«sure, come on over» and we went there, we ate, we drank, and we loved it. at the end we all were like, «omg, yaaaaaas» The end.

One of my go-to spots in the city for HH. You can’t beat $ 1 oysters, mang. They aren’t the best I’ve had, but they definitely hit the spot coupled with a nice brew. Bar service is above par and the tenders are personable. Sometimes food takes a little bit of time to come out, which can be annoying. Last visit my oysters took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. Still, the HH is great for oysters and all the other offerings like the spare ribs. Youse peoples should check it out!

Honestly, the food’s more 3.5 stars, but E&O has a pretty nice, trendy atmosphere without the food being expensive, so I can see myself coming back, especially for their happy hour($ 1 oysters!) My friends and I made a lunch reservation for a Friday, but it probably wasn’t necessary. The restaurant is pretty big and has a decent amount of seating, and it doesn’t seem to get too busy during lunch. The atmosphere is a lot classier than I thought it’d be. I can definitely see people being more dressed up for special occasions, but it’s not necessarily a fancy restaurant either. I love the tall ceilings in the front of the restaurant, but the seating area in the back is pretty dark(unfortunately bad for Instagram) The food is decent for Asian fusion, but nothing really stood out to me. I ordered the prawn salad and tried my friends’ Indonesian fried rice and drunken noodles. Everything tasted pretty much exactly how you’d expect it to — nothing new or unique in the dishes. Portion sizes and prices are pretty reasonable. The food may not be super special, but E&O has a pretty solid HH! $ 1 oysters and dumplings, 3−6pm Monday though Saturday(yes, apparently even on the weekend!). — — — - –PRAWNSALAD($ 16) — 3.5÷5 [gulf white prawns, cucumber, Asian fruit(lychee, mandarin oranges, mangoes), cashews, onions, fresh chilies, thai basil, mint, cilantro, lemon oil, maldon salt] The idea of fruit and chilies intrigued me but it didn’t turn out to actually be that interesting. I was expecting a refreshing sweet and spicy flavor, but the chilies didn’t have any punch to them. The salad was still light and refreshing though, and all the ingredients were crisp and fresh. The prawns were big but few and had a good texture. –INDONESIANFRIEDRICE($ 17) — 3.5÷5 [gulf white prawns, char siu pork, vegetables, egg, chilies] My friend got the fried rice without the chilies since she doesn’t really have a tolerance for spicy food so I’m not sure if the dish would have been more interesting/unique if it had the chilies, but it honestly tasted like any other fried rice. Maybe just greasier and saltier. –DRUNKENNOODLES /PAD KEEMAO($ 16) — 3.5÷5 [broad rice noodles, ground pork, chinese broccoli, chilies, basil] Flavor’s not bad, but again, not very memorable. The noodles and pork are cooked nicely though, but the dish is definitely greasier than it needs to be.

I happened across E & O through chance and with help from Unilocal. My parents were staying in Union Square and the wife was going to meet up after work from BART, so I was looking for a good Asian restaurant within easy walking distance for all parties. I love SF but I drive around SF only as a last resort — high stress driving! E & O looks like a sleek, modern lounge with an open bar in the front with a large dining area in the back with open kitchen. Nice aroma from their wood-fired ovens! The menu is pretty creative with the flavors of SE Asia, India, and Japan and Korea. In terms of food, all dishes we ordered exceeded our expectations — so five star endorsement for me! Cocktails included the Moscow Mule(refreshing alcoholic ginger beer) and the Chili-Tamarindo Margarita. Both were good, but the Mule was my favorite. Indonesia Corn Fritters are a must — They arrived hot and crispy and the two pieces easily accommodated the four of us. With the dipping sauce, I got that nice one-two punch of sweet followed by heat. The crispiness of these fritters was unreal. Butternut Squash Dumplings — Very good. We liked the firm dumpling skin and the rich butternut squash filling in the inside and the lighter curry sauce in the outside. Short Rib Sliders with Taro Chips — Dad got these from the Apps menu. Three sliders with perfectly cooked and juicy short ribs. Shredded taro chips were good too. I managed to get half of one slider. Steelhead — Their salmon was cooked perfectly — skin-on, moist, and full of flavor from the mild sweet-sour broth. I liked the balance of more butternut squash(or was it yams?) and green veggies. Salmon is extremely hard to cook well but E&O aced this one. Black Cod — Mom and wife both got this and absolutely loved it. A good-sized piece of fish on a bed of water spinach. The fish was also moist and juicy, and reminds us of the butterfish at Roy’s which had a miso-soy-mirin glaze. E&O’s version seemed more balanced — not as rich or sweet. I think it’s actually better. Sides — We got eggplant and tofu(Thai-inspired) and Kennebec Fries, which came out piping hot and crispy with some sort of unique seasoning(Japanese Togarashi?) Desserts — We shared Bananamisu and Mango Panna Cotta and had some disagreement. Both were wonderful but I liked the panna cotta better with its creamy tart taste with some crunchiness(nuts perhaps?). Everybody else liked the Bananamisu — which looked like a Tiramisu but with a banana cake and less creamy and rich than the traditional Italian version. Would definitely recommend coming here — I was lucky to have a small group come so that we sampled a few dishes from their dinner menu. Service and ambiance top notch too!
