What to say about Dig? Best wine shop in the city? Perhaps. But in many respects Wayne has done more than that. Yes, it’s French and Italian wine only. Yes, it’s clearly a selection of old world style wines from the old world. No, not a Suckling styled cab or brunello in sight. But beyond all that Wayne knows just about everyone that comes in by name and tries to cultivate a coterie. Friday/Saturday tastings again aren’t cheap. But I’d say they tend to be the most illustrative for more advanced types of wine drinking. So maybe, if you’re looking to get into wine this might not be your first stop but maybe it should be your last. I can’t say enough about Dig. Strictly top notch.

Their monthly newsletter is unusual and written with aplomb. A diverse range of wines are selected with care and elegantly marked with a price in white ink. Adjacent, Modern Appealing Clothing and an attractive café serving pizza. Can’t you just not resist?

Went here for my birthday to pick some nice wines to take on a trip. I was like a kid in a candy store with a full allowance in her pocket. Wow! The tasting was wonderful! Talk about informed decisions, I love wine and this place did not disappoint. The prices are almost at cost! Are you guys making any profit? Hahaha. Well thank you for a great selection, so much knowledge without being condensing or snobbish. You rock!

(See pic) Review #1322. A fairly good selection of wines in the neighborhood. A friendly and relaxing browse and a quick check before having dinner in the area.

Where most of us buy wine, service and knowledge have become victims of our current obsession with low prices. Thankfully, there are places like Dig for those interested in learning and discovering fine wines. Wine Merchant Wayne Garcia is the mind behind this improbable gem of a find, and is one of the shining stars in the rapidly evolving Dogpatch area. Well worth the trip, if you’re a fan of French or Italian wines that can, as their website boasts«surprise and delight»!

What a great wine store, maybe the best in SF. With a unique and highly select collection, and the guidance of the very amicable and knowledgeable proprietor, Wayne Garcia, you simply can’t go wrong here. Also, an excellent tasting line-up on weekends, typically with three whites and three reds, with the occasional bubbly and rose. The Yellow Building is something to behold, and a reason alone to make the trip to DIG.

What a find! Wayne knows European wines extremely well including locations, styles, individual vineyards, etc. Stop by during one of the scheduled tastings for an education and a treat! twist his arm to spin an LP on his excellent stereo system.(Then have dinner at Piccino next door :)

I love DIG! It is rare to be able to develop this kind of relationship with your wine merchant. How European… I believe that Wayne recognizes and remembers tastes to faces… what a glorious find! It has become comfortable to swing out and try something new based on suggestions and recomdations of someone I trust. Thanks Wayne!

I agree, stopped in there a few times but went there on Saturday night to buy a gift for a friend. Wayne helped me select a great choice for the occasion. I also like that he has a wide selection of wines with lower alcohol content, which is great for unwinding after a busy day at work and doesn’t leave you dragging the next day.

DIG is the most unique wine shop in the city. The owner, Wayne Garcia, has crafted a selection of French and Italian wines that represent lesser known wine regions of each country. Many of the wines are from smaller winemakers as well. Wayne is extremely knowledgeable, personable, and passionate about wine. What a find! After you’re done shopping, check-out Piccino next door for a pizza, or great cup of Sightglass coffee.

In a city with no shortage of anything food or drink, wine shops are no exception. Dig stands out from the others in its category not because the owner has such in-depth knowledge of his wines, which he does, but because he is willing to take the time to impart that knowledge to his customers. If you want to know more about French and Italian wines — from varietals, to production, to pairings — visit Dig and talk to Wayne. Whether you’re seeking an $ 8 bottle of everyday table wine to a $ 75 bottle of special occasion wine, you won’t be disappointed that you did.

What a store and what a star! The owner has created a fabulous collection, a wide assortment, and such a depth of knowledge. He really went beyond the call of duty in providing top rate service. I will go out of my way to get back to Dig, for that really wonderful bottle of wine to bring friends for dinner or to pack in the picnic basket.

What a lovely little wine shop. The owner picked up on my taste right away and his recommendations were exactly what I wanted. And he even had bottles open to taste which made the whole experience a lot of fun.

This wine store just opened in the newly renovated building in Dogpatch which is now home to the restaurant Piccino and another location for Modern Appealing Clothing. They have a nice selection of French & Italian wines at varying price ranges. At first I was slightly confused about the numbers that are hand written in white marker on the bottles. These numbers are the prices, and the owner wiped them right off with a towel upon purchase. It was actually really nice not to have to turn the bottle over to figure out if it was in my price range. I’ve walked away twice with obscure recommendations from the owner, Wayne Garcia, that were just dynamite. Both times he told me he had something that might be a risk for me, but the wines were exactly as he described. Both were whites — one was a Timorasso from La Colombera, the other was Semplicemente Vino Bellotti Bianco. I had never heard of either of them, and I’m glad I took the suggestions.
