THEBEST German Wine shop I have ever seen, including anywhere in Germany I have been. Awesome Awesome. Excellent customer service as well. Trouble free mail order service. Have been shopping here for many years. Great variety, only thing consistently missing are German reds from the Wurttemberg, but there are outlets for such if you look hard enough. But really, German is about Riesling and here you can experience all aspects from this diverse noble grape. On one or two occasions a year, they have a Riesling tasting open to the public. Its usually around Christmas I think. Its real cool as they have the flight start perfectly from the super dry Troken varieties all the way to the jewel-like TBAs. Good for any wine enthusiast who still only associates Blue Nun with German wine.

(See pics) Very knowledgeable staff who handpicks based on your likeness. An excellent selection of German wines that delights more than one’s palate, but mind and soul. There were also quite some German rare wines in the cage. How I wish they opened on the weekends as they open only during regular business hours. However, they are very popular with their online purchases. It’s definitely a nice visit to their dock location that is a cool space. They currently are under some construction so you will see the blue canopy around. Once in a while they also do wine tastings on the weekends.

Ok, so I had a living social coupon and had never even heard of this place before, it’s like an exclusive club that you have to find, because there are no signs on the outside of the warehouse. But once I found it and walked in, it was like a Reisling lover’s dream, boxes and boxes of the good stuff. And the guys at Dee Vine are some cool cats, after being asked about what i wanted to spend and what kind of Reisling I liked, I was taken around and offered different choices. When I was being rung up, I chatted with the guys for twenty minutes, laughing and joking around. Overall, great experience and will come here for all my Reisling needs.

We got to meet the gentlemen from Dee Vine Wines at the recent Unilocal Event held at McCormick & Kuleto’s. What a great pair. They were fun and very charming! I found a new Riesling to add to my home bar. I MUST stop by the shop soon for a visit and check out the offerings.. .

Don Riedthaler, the«purveyor» is knowledgeable and very easy going. His demeanor and the quality of his wines and their backstories and mating with great food is a real delight. The wide variety is also a great key aspect of his business. To learn about new wines that I’d not be able to… and to tell my favorite restaurants that they should consider serving them. Pleasure to meet him at Unilocal Elite Events!

Riesling, Icewine, Sweet Nectar of the Gods… Where ever they come from, whatever they may be called this culmination of years of grape breeding can only truly be called by whatever expression escapes your lips after a time stopping tasting of said refreshment. And who would know better than those at De Vine Wines. I have tried their offerings at two Unilocal events and all I can say is that I was hooked for life. Every chance I get, I try to pick up a lil something something from their retail store in SF. German Riesling = Me Drunkenly Happy ;D

Walk in the warehouse at Pier 19. Ignore the No Trespassing sign. Unless you’re trespassing, then«bad! bad!» It’s on your left. It’s a warehouse, so don’t expect anything fancy. Mainly bottles in boxes. I got a $ 33 bottle of Riesling. Nice person. I told him price range and vague description of what I wanted(white, sweet) and he gave me suggestions. The bottle didn’t place first at the wine tasting I took it to, but it didn’t place last either. Good place to go if you’re looking for something specific and German.

Dee Vine Wines supplied the delicious Prinz Riesling I tried at Trevese Restaurant. Sad part though is I don’t know the full name of the wine, what year and how much it costs. One quick photo of the bottle would have solved it. So if you find something at Dee Vine Wines that’s so delish take wine notes!

I’d been searching around for a few bottles of Toni Jost Riesling Spatlese ‘Hahn’ for a few weeks after I had some of this delicious wine at my company holiday party. For whatever reason, I wasn’t able to find it anywhere else in the Bay Area, except at Dee Vine Wines. It seemed like there isn’t much of a demand for fine German wines in the Bay Area… no idea why — but anyways, I digress. A few of the other stores that I called to inquire about this wine were super-snobby in their responses — Whatever, won’t ever get any of my future business… even tempted to write a couple blunt reviews about my experiences w/these sub-par wine & beverage retailers. I was starting to lose hope, so I started asking my network of friends & colleagues for assistance. One of my old colleagues(who’s a member of some wine club) was able to track down this wine for me within minutes at Dee Vine Wines. These guys here are awesome. I spoke with Otto on the phone and told him of the specific vintage year I was searching for, and he informed me of better vintage years(at a bit cheaper prices too) Anyhoo, he had no problem taking my order over the phone, and since I was out of town(not in SF at the time), he had no problem letting one of my co-workers pick it up for me and leave it on my desk in my office — Thanks again Chad — I know it was quite a bit of a walk. Even though I only picked up a few bottles of this fine Riesling wine to toast for NYE(New Years Eve), Otto informed me that if I were to purchase a case of this wine(or any other?), I would save 20% off the price — I declined for this time. but next time, I definitely will be coming back for a case. Incredibly friendly and helpful. Thanks again Dee Vine Wines — you guys are awesome.

Sipping wine at Dee Vine’s Pier 19 store made me feel as if I was accepting shipments at Al Capone’s warehouse during prohibition. I was on the lookout for Eliot Ness hiding behind behind the cases of $ 374/bottle Auslese Rieslings. Interestingly, their warehouse/retail store carries several wines bottled before the prohibition.: As a distributor, their sales are mostly to restaurants, but they also operate as a retail store M-F 9am-5pm. I went to one of their special Saturday tasting event, where I learned about vintage Rieslings and tasted interesting bottles, including 1969 Schloss. You can learn about their upcoming events at their website : If you are a fan of German Rieslings, you have to check this place out. Staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. Most Asian food pairs best with Rieslings, so I look forward to learning more from them.

How cool are these people! I went in to pick up a bottle of cheap Burgundy, and they gave me a hefty pour of $ 300 Burgundy while I wait. I told them that I’m from Shizuoka, Japan, and they are like«oh, that’s famous for Wakatake sake, green tea, and eel.» Wow, not so many average Americans don’t know that.

German wines. Alot of German wines. If you appreciate the difference between auslese and trockenberenauslese, get yourself to Dee Vine right away. But it doesn’t stop at great German wines. Here is why I fell in love… I happen to really like Burgundies, especially from Vosne-Romanee. There’s a great producer from V-R by the name of Rene Engel. The winemaker(or owner?) passed away a few years ago, and the 2003 was the last vintage of Rene Engel made. At least that’s the story as I know it. So I’m at Dee Vine wines to pick up a case of Von Hovel 2005 Spatlese from Mosel Saar Ruwer(excellent wine, btw). It took me forever to find the place, but once I did, i thought i was in willy wonka’s chocolate factory; nothing made sense, but i wanted some of everything. There, lo and behold, were multiple cases of 1999 Rene Engel Vosne Romanee. Great German wines *and* Burgundies? I was floored. Tip: they have several wine clubs, mostly focused on Germany. Good stuff. Even better, the club gives you a discount on all other purchases(10% if memory serves)

I tried to find you, really I did. I made a special point of trying to drop in while on vacation, based on your catalogs, products and website, I know I love you that much. But alas, the piers were just too confusing, industrial, and deserted feeling for this out-of-towner. I know that dude on the fork lift could have pointed me in the right direction, but I just didn’t have the guts to bug him. Next time I’ll give it another shot. So none of that changes what a fabulous business this is. If you respect the amazing taste and value of quality Riesling, Dee Vine is as good as it gets. Make sure you get on their catalog list– it’s beautiful in it’s own right! And all the great information and knowledge they share will be sure to get you into some wonderful wine– and wine that lots of non-Germans(hell even many Germans!) tend to find extremely confusing(regions, praedikat, varietals, etc). Seriously, they blow me away with their knowledge here– a wonderful business.

Oh yes, I can’t say enough wonderful things about Dee Vine Wines. I work with them in the wine industry and they really do get some great finds and great wines in general. Everyone there is friendly and knowledgeable and they all know how to have a good time too! I can’t recommend them enough! Plus, it’s a fun little trip to a warehouse on the piers — how often do you get to do that?!

Fantastic wine shop — suberb selection of german riesling — have a good selection of alsatian and austrian whites too. You can sometimes find the auction wines. Vintage champage and burgundies also. The staff know their stuff. They organize tastings too and the occasional wine dinner. Get on the mailing list.
