I really wanted to like this place– but… it was not good. I stopped in for some to go food and the place was empty which is usually a sign for me to leave. I stayed and ordered the shrip and grits and Mac n Cheese. When the food game I checked to make sure I got what I ordered. Everything looked OK despite the 20 min wait in an empty restaurant. No one seemed to care that I was here. When I asked the guy if the have been bysy he made a funny(in a bad way) face. OK ready to eat when I get home I start w/the shrimp n Grits. On first bite it seems oK but there’s something lumpy white and crunchy with a really strong taste. I stopped mid chew to check it out because I think it’s raw garlic but cannot for the life of me comprehend why a half clove of raw garlic is in there. I try a second bite and it’s worse! I went and gotva slotted spoon and I swear there had to be at least 10 cloves– some smashed and sort of cut others pretty much whole. So many thoughts rushed through my head. Why wasn’t it cooked at all? Was I going to get a migraine from tge fact that it was raw, was my breath now too discussing for going out later, why did this take 20 mon. The grits were also super runny and tge So. BBQ sauce was a coule of dashes of Crystal. The Mac n Cheese was nothing compared to what you can get just about anywhere else including a grocery store. The location is obviously very dodgy and heavily trafficked by cars and trucks and aggressive homeless, junkies and some regular people. Be careful if you try it. The German place there before it wasn’t excellent but I’d welcome it back antime. Their décor was cheesy but better than the depressing vibe it has now. If you are trying to keep the Vampires away you’ll love the bad grits. If you want good Southern food you are better off at 1300, Gussies, Eleite, Brenda’s etc. Sorry Daddy O’s you are not good and I have a feeling will be Gone Daddy Gone in 6 – 8 months.

One of my favorite Indian restaurants is a half block away, but I’d just missed the end of lunch service and was ready to hop in the car when I noticed the space formerly occupied by the best German restaurant in SF(until the owner sadly, suddenly died), now had a «Southern» cookery in its place. The drool began to flow in expectation so I slid on over, the lure of fried chicken pulling me like gravity. From the start, I knew 3pm was late in the lunch service period and I was the only one in there. I got to sit where I wanted and got waited on immediately, with all my questions answered to my satisfaction. The stocky gent waiting on me turned out to be the only decent part of this meal. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich since it was made in-house and would assumedly be akin to fried chicken on the bone. There’s absolutely no reason it shouldn’t be! It included fries and I asked for ranch, as usual. When the plate came out, it came with about a gallon of ranch dressing for the fries which, while overwhelming, was pleasing because they didn’t bring a thimbleful like most places do. But that’s less important than other things. The heart of this sandwich is fried chicken breasts, obviously. The time it took for delivery probably meant these had been made when I ordered(not in advance) and pounded flat to make them more amenable to sandwich use. They were evenly coated, but not in a batter that would make them crunchy like it would be on the bone. I noted the sandwich came with lettuce, tomato and pickles when I ordered, but it was iceberg lettuce and plenty of it. Not good. The first bite of the chicken was very dry which I knew could have been from uneven cooking, but both pieces stayed that way except for the centers. They had been overcooked and I was the only one in the restaurant when the order went in, so either the cook didn’t know his/her business or they were forgotten and left cooking too long. Even if the chicken hadn’t been overlooked time-wise, this sandwich couldn’t be saved overall. Still, it was the best part. To be blunt, they use cheap ingredients and it shows. The sandwich roll was so «rainbow bread» discount quality that it didn’t hold up to being handled even very gently and had a bit of dryness to it that meant it was a poor product rather than old and stale. Plus, the cheap iceberg lettuce was put on the sandwich in careless slabs, forcing me to take 75% of it out. At least the tomato was decent. The fries were good and the ranch wasn’t the kind that tastes sour and chemical based, so that was somewhat redeeming. I won’t go back because even if another visit meant the chicken came out properly, the balance of the sandwich was strictly school cafeteria quality. Maybe the other parts of the menu are better, but I’m not in that neighborhood very often and if I am, I’m not missing India Garden’s buffet… ever. Daddy O’s needs to pay more attention to quality before the already-sparse population in that area of SF abandon’s them and the address goes vacant again. If you must go, order something else, but give the sandwiches a miss.

As a Southerner, I sometimes have a craving for some authentic Southern food. That is what led me to Daddy O’s Café. My husband & I came here for dinner, and I was very pleased with the variety offered on the menu. We ordered: — an appetizer of fried okra — the fried chicken plate, which came with mashed potatoes & gravy and one side(my husband ordered greens), and a corn muffin — the sides plate(3 sides): mac & cheese, red beans & rice, yams. This also came with a corn muffin. Of the things that I tasted, I’d rate them as follows: chicken: 4 stars okra: 4 stars corn muffin: 4 stars mac & cheese: 4 stars red beans & rice: 3 stars yams: 5 stars(I’d give them more stars if possible; they were so delicious! Very sweet & nicely spiced). As this was a lot of food for two people, we had plenty of leftovers and enjoyed them again as another meal. (Oh and I also had one of the mocktails — the Billie; it was tasty! It had peach purée and other juices, if memory serves). Overall, it was a very pleasant dining experience and the two gentlemen who served us were Southerners(one is from New Orleans & the other is from Texas). I’d go back!

Kind of stumbled on this restaurant looking for beer on a hot day… Tried the gumbo which I thought was very decent(the staff recommended it when I was debating ordering that or the jambalaya). It wasn’t New Orleans gumbo, but it was the best I’ve had in quite a while… I would come back to this joint!

This is my first one star rating and it was well deserved. Let me start off by saying that I came here on a Folsom Street Fair Sunday expecting to pop in and out for breakfast, then be on my merry way to watch ridiculous ensue. Pop in… slow roast… bake… and almost boiling over were my feelings in this establishment. First and foremost, there were plenty of staff working that day. I saw at least two bussers and four different waiters. Sweet! 30 minute breakfast can be achieved! But NO! Management had –something– against our young and obviously stressed out waitress, because she was in charge of a whole room by herself. It was clear she was ready to walk out the door– and all of us were giving her the benefit of the doubt that it was an understaffed day [until we realized more people worked there, just not her area]. We were seated at the same time as two other parties. Our coffee and water [collectively as a group] took about 10 minutes to get. It took about another 5 minutes for our order to be taken. My table received our food in about 45 minutes. The other table… 30… and an unfortunate group of men in the corner apparently had their food taken by ANOTHER waitress who wasn’t looking at the orders being printed out… so they left disgruntled. As we were leaving another group was doing the same. It is pretty ridiculous that an establishment would run such a poorly executed game plan for what could have been an amazing opportunity to make great money. The breakfast selection was really small. For claiming a southern home cooked meal, there should have been more on the menu than just omelettes and pancake plates. I had an omelette, biscuit, and potatoes. Their biscuit [which was the one thing i was STOKED to see on the menu] was dense and not as flaky, sweet, and light as it could be. Their sausages were ok, the one redeeming fact in an omelette anyone could have thrown together. … and the potatoes definitely lacked seasoning. Maybe this place is better for other meals? Maybe it was the worst day… ever… in the life of Daddy O’s Café, either way. I’m certainly never going back and not recommending it to anyone.

I MUSTHAVELOSTMYTASTEBUDS… I HOPE I FINDTHEM! I have been here twice. The first time I was there I had the gumbo and I was impressed as it had a lot of large shrimp, andouille, chicken and… It was impressive. The biscuit was something else, DISAPPOINTING. I told the owner, Ron, it wasn’t as good as Brenda’s and it wasn’t. Ron and I had a nice conversation about the food. I asked him about the Mac ‘n Cheese, I really dislike soupy Mac n’ Cheese. His wife, Sunny, a Chinese lady, brought me a sample and I was WOW’ED! She is, supposedly, the cook now. It amazed me that she coud cook Soul so well. A few weeks later I went back for the gumbo and Mac. The Mac was great and I’d eat a HUGE portion but I am not crazy! I’d eat it AGAIN. The gumbo wasn’t as good as the first time, it lacked ooooomph., Plus, there was no andouille in it. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said she’d get some for me, well it turned out that it was red beans… but I ate every bite and liked it. Since the location is not favorable for drop in dining, it is in a marginal Soma ‘hood, I won’t go often. The décor is lacking in ambiance, hard bench along the wall, benches that were very uncomfortable and a bit tacky feeling. I sat facing the wall and I am uncomfortable looking at walls. When I go back, I will try the shrimp po’boy. OH, I was the only customer but it was nearly 3, their closing hour. Someone ordered takeout and A few guys were turned down as it was too late. I DOWISHRON and his wife, SUNNY, GOODLUCK The waitress was very nice. Maybe they do need some kitchen help who are real soul food chefs.

I’m from North Carolina. The [insert menu item here] was amazing! I went here with my roommates for my birthday last week. I wanted to have something that reminded me of home and have everyone else do the same. We got a pretty diverse offering: Shrimp & Grits, Ribs, Shrimp Po’boy, Gumbo, & Fried Chicken. All of it was delicious, well presented, and the service was spot on. The only thing that was a little off-putting was the emptiness. Granted, I went on a Wednesday, but I really want this place to be busier. It’s a little uncomfortable being the only ones there. I say, try it. It’s some of the most authentic I’ve had in the city!!!

Sorry to see that some people didn’t care for this place… though I am very happy to report that my recent experience was very, very good. First off: the friend chicken was so delicious that I think my eyes crossed at some point. Service was friendly and efficient, and our entire table of 7 people fell into a blissful food coma pretty much immediately. Bad points? Not much to note. I wouldn’t mind more side dish choices, but the cornbread dressing was certainly tasty. I would definitely go back again.

After a Sunday afternoon movie at the Metreon my friends and I were craving Soul Food. Since there isn’t much in the area we decided to try Daddy O’s. Its been there for a while, but none of us had ventured in yet. A short walk later and we find ourselves seated in a nearly empty restaurant which I thought was great because we were a group of 7 and I was starving. The server was very nice and quickly got us some drinks while we all drooled over the menus. Each of us quickly found something we wanted almost all of us getting something different. The server took our orders and recited them back to make sure there were no mistakes, and in what seemed like a short time later she came out with the food. The plates were big and filled with food, each item that was put on our table was oooh’d and ahhh’d over. The presentation was great. The food itself was even better. I had the white meat fried chicken with mash potatoes, corn muffin and mac and cheese. Let’s just say I like to eat and I still only made it half way through my food. The muffins were fresh and warm from the over, the chicken was crispy and flavorful, the mac and cheese was different but delicious with bread crumbs mixed in and extra cheese baked on top. My group that is normally very talkative was silent as we all stopped to eat. There wasn’t a single complaint to be had. The food and service were great. I can’t wait to go back and try their breakfast menu next.

Do not eat here! You’ve been warned. Can you say bloody chicken, disgusting! Chinese owned and operated cooking soul food, WTF. I was really looking forward to this place and didn’t look at any reviews before going. With so many bad reviews I don’t think this place will survive. I have to say that our waitress was friendly and felt very bad about the situation.

The three-star Unilocal average is spot-on for Daddy O’s. I came in at one on a Saturday afternoon, and was the only guy in there. I ordered Gumbo and a side of red veggie & okra stew over rice. That was kind of a dumb idea – the two were similar in flavor and texture. The gumbo was good, but definitely something I could whip up at home. I have to say the same for the okra stew. The portions were OK for the price, but there sure was a lot of rice in the gumbo. The waitresses were nice, but seemed inexperienced. They offered a free slice of sweet potato pie which I thought was nice. I want this place to be awesome, so hopefully they’ll get their shit together and make it that way soon. Otherwise I fear that the nice red awning outside won’t say Daddy O’s for long.

I grew up in Arkansas, and I waited a long time for this restaurant to open. Since Powell’s closed, I haven’t known of any great Southern food places in San Francisco. So I was really glad when I saw the«Opening Soon» signs. I should explain that I was raised to think of «soul food» as pretty much anything my mother wouldn’t serve and therefore I wouldn’t eat. Chitterlings is the most vivid example. But in California my mental separation of «Southern» food(Catfish, cornbread, and hush puppies) and«soul food»(which I never got a chance to eat) doesn’t exist. Food from the South IS soul food here. Okay, fine by me. After several false starts, the place was finally open when I went by. A friend of mine was concerned it would be too spicy, and I assured him that not all southern food is Cajun. But, when I read the menu, I realized that the OPPOSITE was the case. The menu is surprisingly bland. It doesn’t appear that they consulted any Southern cooks when they chose what to offer. And while there is «fried fish»(NO! NO! It has to be CATFISH!) there wasn’t a single mention of hush puppies, which is what you get when a Southern cook gets tired of thinking of things to bread and fry, and just breads and fries breading instead. They’re wonderful. But they’re not on the menu. Call me a purist, but the only thing I miss about the South is(some of) the food. So, I can’t speak directly of the quality of the food or service, because I didn’t even go inside. I was looking for childhood comfort food and I didn’t want to settle for a partial imitation. I miss the Shnizelhaus that was there before.

Backstage melodrama is what they apparently serve here as chef Kevin Warren departed from Daddy-O’s last week. The owner, a former restaurateur from China, is now handling cooking duties to make the Southern-style dishes herself. I have no point of comparison since I didn’t get a chance to taste any of Warren’s culinary creations, but Jamie W. and I did come here last Friday and came out feeling quite meh about our dining experience there. The newly conceived dinner menu options seem right, but the execution wavers considerably. Things got off to a rocky start with the appetizer we ordered, the $ 8 Salmon Cakes with Red Pepper Aioli, which looked crispy on the outside but turned out to be too mealy for my taste(see photo). The salmon didn’t taste very fresh either with the consistency usually found in a tin. We both ordered the 3-Piece Fried Chicken dinner. Jamie went white for $ 13.95, while I went dark for a dollar less(see photo). Both of us got mashed potatoes(quite buttery) and a corn muffin(very sweet). We veered on our sides, but both were the best things we had that evening. I went for the Okra and Tomato Stew over Rice. Scooped into a soup cup, it was tasty and hearty but not too filling(see photo). Jamie had the Red Beans and Rice in another soup cup. Not bad. On the other hand, the chicken pieces were rather lacking. While the pieces were moist on the inside and tasted decent enough, they were also midget-sized, reminding me of the micro-parts you get in a Marie Callendar frozen chicken dinner. Unfortunate for Daddy-O, we tried the fried chicken at the Wayfare Tavern a couple of nights later, and although more expensive, there was simply no comparison. Despite the ho-humness of our entrees, we decided to give dessert a try, the $ 5 Sweet Potato Pie with a dollop(or more accurately, a spritz) of whipped cream. A chalky disaster. I actually couldn’t tell if it was meant to be a slice of pie or a piece of cake. It was something in between without the benefit of either. Too bad. This part of SoMa is badly in need of a sure-fire soul food joint, but the execution needs a major overhaul if they plan to have a devoted following. I’m not sure what the impact of Warren’s presence was, but there is a smell of desperation in the kitchen. FOOD — 3 stars… for the sides mostly, the chicken needs steroids AMBIANCE — 2 stars… still feels like Schnitzel Haus with the Swiss chalet walls despite the jazz posters SERVICE — 3 stars… nice enough but a bit random TOTAL — 3 stars… Sunny needs to visit Sylvia Woods in Harlem or at least Tanya Holland across the bay at the Brown Sugar Kitchen… watch and learn!

I expect that Daddy O’s will grow into a four/five star place shortly. The staff is very nice, but not very professional. I would suggest that the servers stop and anticipate the diner’s needs. «Will they need utensils? YES. Will they need extra napkins for fried chicken? YES. Will they need hot sauce? It is a soul food restaurant after all. YES!!!» I’ve been here a couple of times now and I really like the fried chicken. The cuts are not traditional meaning a breast doesn’t look like a standard fried chicken breast same with the thigh pieces. Not a big deal except that the serving sizes are a bit cuisine’ for a soul food joint, but this is made acceptable by the fact that the fried chicken is excellent! The collard greens are served as they should be. I don’t know what that one-star chick was talking about… has she even had collard greens before? The collard greens were cooked with shredded beef or ham hock which is a traditional way to prepare them. I think the meat addition is a classic touch, but surprising if you’re a vegetarian. I don’t think that the menu mentions it. All in all, the quality of the fried chicken, the fried red snapper and all of the sides will bring me back for more. But in the mean time… the servers could up their game and the interior could use a thematic over-haul. It looks like it used to be a German restaurant up in there!

EPICFAIL This place gives soul food a bad name. So sad to have such a terrible so– called restaurant in my neighborhood. Place is clean and spacious, and our waiter was rather nice, so it does deserve a star. BUT…the FOOD was just so terrible. I ordered Fried Chicken: Breast and wing with sides of collard green and mac&cheese which stated on the menu was inclusive at the price of $ 10.99. First and foremost, it WASNOTINCLUSIVE!!! My bill was close to $ 20 with $ 2.75 apple juice. Highly suspect. Second of all, their mac and cheese not only looks nothing like the picture, but also macaroni was mushy and 10 minute over-cooked. Oh, also did I tell you? It smelled like milk and butter, and looked like they put a craft singles cheddar on top and put it in the microwave for 2 minutes. How did it taste you may ask? Absolutely terrible. Almost inedible. Collard green was served in a mini cup SOAKED in juice with chunks of mystery meat. I’ve ever had a collard green so over cooked… and wet. And mushed potatoes with gravy… gravy out of can thinned with water… Ugh…I think their mushed potatoes were the only edibles so far, minus the gravy! Eek… Ok, now the fried chicken. Breast meat was chopped into two pieces… why? …and didn’t smell so good… and it was DRY. How hard can it be to cook a fried chicken, seriously! Not that hard! I’d just go to Kevin’s for great and much cheaper chicken wings. Blech Although I was very very hungry after a good workout, I couldn’t force myself to finish not even the half the plate…:(Sad sad face… Me and my boyfriend both walked out of this place feel like we were ripped off, still hungry from unprofessional establishment. Home cooked meal later tasted million times better and didn’t cost us $ 40 for lunch. Yikes. Never, ever make the same mistake again of walking into this place. Absolutely waste of money, time and traumatizing…

Why, why, whyyyyy only three stars? Are you people on crack?! I’ve been here three times after their long-awaited Grand Opening. After watching several businesses open and FAIL in this exact same space, I a was a bit apprehensive. UNTIL. a good friend of mine, whom I’ll refer to as Soul Food Snob, actually told me it’s good. I haven’t once left this place without food all over my face, and those that actually know me(and know of my neat-freakishness) know that this is a huge accomplishment. This place has also made me abandon my «leave two bites of everything on your plate» habit. Yes. Messy-faced-Kym AND a clean plate. THRICE. The staff there is extremely REAL, friendly(but not overly-attentive-annoying), and snarky in the way that I love. Eat THAT, SoMa. I’ll cry if Daddy O’s ever closes.

My girlfriend and I just got done playing some tennis, and she suggested Hard Knocks Café. I wanted to drive around a bit, and we ended up driving by Daddy O’s. We live a couple blocks from this place and was sad to see the German Schnitzel Haus go away. Nevertheless, I made a last minute suggestion to hit up HRD Café, but the girlfriend threw down a veto… What can a guy do? So we walk into the establishment, get seated and check out the ol’ menu. My first impression: bare and boring, but hell maybe it’s that damn good? My lady: Fried Chicken w/Mac n Cheese & Collard Greens. Myself: Fried Chicken w/Mac n Cheese & Okra Stew over Rice She got the breast & wing, I got the drum & thigh. Crystal on the table… Good but a little weird being in a soul spot without their own special hot sauce… Highly suspect. Oh, it gets ever so much more suspect. Breast meat… Strangely cut… Looked like a haunch of flayed breast. The batter was terrible… Horribly over fried… It looked like a burn victim laying there… rigor mortis… The collard greens lay in a pool of juice… In chunks… And the macaroni and cheese… Cheap cheeses and over cooked porridge texture noodles. Please… Easy Mac can readily produce a consistent product… It’s not rocket science. (tangent) awkward Asian behind the counter with bleached hair looked very aggro… And gave one of the waiters a stink eye when we walked in(/tangent) Mashed potatoes and gravy. I thought either these guys got potatoes in a blender or something because they tasted like box taters… Just add water. And, the gravy… As one of the above reviewers stated… It tasted like can gravy… I swear my Vietnamese mother has made better gravy on her worst day. Cornbread was an epic, cosmic, shameful… FAIL! Oh what can we say about Daddy O’s that has not been said before? The waiter asked us to select some sides… For 10.99 it should come with sides… Two pieces of chicken for heaven’s sake! So we both ordered… Lo and behold… We were charged… Total bill: 40… For lunch… Terrible. Over priced. No flavor. Over cooked. Deceptive. Would we return? No, we wouldn’t return to this place if they offered free food. Where would we go? Everett & Jones. Home of Chicken & Waffles. Blue. Hard Knocks Café. Or you can just go to Oakland and walk down the streets… Ask someone on the streets… Clearly the other reviewers have no clue for value or taste. Get all of your buddies here and try to shovel more garbage down their throats. After a few months thus place will perish into a vacant lot, because reviews don’t buy business, good food does. Good bye and good luck — and I will surely monitor the activity of high reviewers of this restaurant… Clearly highly suspect, and zero taste what so ever… Don’t trust their reviews…

This was my second time at Daddy O’s. The first time was opening day. The food has gotten better as has their service time. Both times I have eaten here I had to pick something else from the menu because they could not deliver the food I wanted. Is it too much to ask to not have my food covered in Mash Potatoes. At Daddy O’s it is. They do not allow for any substitutions. Today I ordered fried chicken breast and wing. The Mac and Cheese was great. The chicken had good flavor. The Breast was smaller than the wing and had a strange shape. It looks like that is because they cut their breasts in half. Its the little things like cutting my breast in half, or not allowing me to leave out the mash potatoes that makes this place only get two stars.

This place is absolutely TERRIBLE! I can’t believe this is even a restaurant. It sort of infuriates me to walk past it and see that it hasn’t been shut down. For weeks, I anticipated the opening of this place because it was located down the street from my office. On opening day, I called up a friend to join me for lunch. We walked to Daddy O’s to find that it was only seating 2 or 3 tables in their vast 2 room restaurant. The first thing we requested was a beverage menu. We were disappointed to find out they didn’t get their liquor license yet so they weren’t serving any alcohol. Why would you even open your restaurant before your liquor license comes through??? The next disappointment was the lack of items they had on their menu and also what was available. They listed maybe 7 to 10 items and the waiter said they were out of almost everything. It was 1PM, prime lunch hour, how are you out of food already? I settled for a bowl of gumbo and rice and beans. My friend ordered«smothered turkey and gravy»(sounds good right?). The food was the biggest disappointment of all. First, it took them 30 minutes to bring out my tiny bowl of gumbo. 30 minutes?! It’s lunch hour, you only have 3 tables seated, and it’s opening day. Shouldn’t you have huge pots of gumbo already stirring back there? Ready to be served? 20 minutes later, my friend received his smothered turkey. It was seriously a piece of sliced deli meat with gravy. Why does it take a total of 40 minutes to cook THAT? On top of all of this, we sat at the table without any service from the waiter for the entire meal. When we finished, we saw the waiter just standing behind the counter, chatting away on the phone instead of giving us our bill. It took us another 15 minutes to get our bill. I was so mad, I wanted to just walk right out of the restaurant. I want to throw rocks at it every day on my way to work for jipping me out of the worst $ 15 lunch of my life. BTW, if you’re reading the other reviews on this place, you can tell they are clearly written by the owners or friends of the owners. Trust me, this is a terrible place to eat. Walk a few more blocks in any direction and you’ll find something worth your time and money.

In a neighborhood made up mostly by buildings of slate grays and dark greens it’s pretty difficult not to notice the bold red awning and bright yellow letters of Daddy O’s Café( ). The new«Southern Soul Homestyle Cooking» restaurant isn’t just a pretty face located on the corner of 9th and Folsom Streets. The food that awaits you inside is vibrant and full of flavor. Daddy O’s Café is now open for breakfast and lunch. I got the heads up from Jennifer E whose delicious Cups and Cakes Bakery is just a hop and a skip up 9th Street. After reading her review I made my way over to the new restaurant immediately. Greeted as soon as I stepped inside by my waitress and server Misty I was quickly seated and my beverage order was taken right away. While they await their liquor license they currently offer soft drinks with refills, coffee, hot chocolate, tea and a nice assortment of fruit juices. The Coca-Cola I ordered had two fresh lemon slices( ) on top. As a fan of all citrus I loved having the option to put a little citrus pulp into my cola. After perusing the menu I decided upon the fried chicken. For different prices you can select between a breast and a wing or a leg and a thigh. Additional pieces can be added for an extra cost. I went with the leg and thigh and had a wing added on. The fried chicken lunch comes with mashed potatoes with gravy, a corn muffin and your choice of one side. For my side I selected the mac n cheese. The interior( ) is quite nice with lots of wood paneling, exposed brick and a color scheme featuring lots of dark reds. There are two main dining rooms with some vintage photos mounted on the walls. As I was seated directly across from the cashier’s stand( ) I noticed an assortment of wine glasses hanging in place and several beer taps awaiting the official okay to serve alcohol. I’m assuming the restaurant will begin serving dinner once they have the alcohol in place. As the food is prepared to order it’s a bit of a wait for the fried chicken to cook. For my taste the chicken( ) was worth the wait. Daddy O’s fried chicken is served hot with just a light layer of fried crisp on the outside and moist, flavorful meat throughout the chicken pieces. The mashed potatoes might have sat a bit while waiting for the chicken to cook as it was only warm. The mashed potatoes weren’t lumpy like I like either. In fact these potatoes seemed to be whipped smooth. The gravy was nicely seasoned. My corn muffin had a crispy outer surface while the center was nice and soft. Again, these muffins had very good flavor. What wowed me most, however, about my meal was the delicious side of mac n cheese( ). Served hot-out-of-the-oven in a cup the elbow macaroni was creamy cheesy without being too oily. Furthermore, an exquisite crust was baked on top making this one of the better mac n cheese dishes I’ve had in quite some time. The menu and the prices have changed slightly from the pair of images posted by another reviewer nearly one month ago. You can view the current breakfast and lunch menus at( ) and( ). If you’re in the area come on by. Delicious food and friendly service awaits you. I’m certain I’ll be back very soon. The restaurant’s hours are 7AM to 3PM while they’re in the breakfast and lunch only mode.
