This store is a hidden gem in the Lower Nob Hill area of San Francisco, and this becomes apparent the moment you walk through the door. Dan has transformed this unique space into a beautiful home décor shop, allowing him to showcase and share his passion for interior/​garden design and local artists/​products. Some of my favorite products that you’ll find in d. zelen are the gold hand grenade oil candles and the Scents of San Francisco candles. The collection of antiques and furniture that Dan brings in to his store never cease to capture my attention, nor does his energetic and friendly personality.

D. Zelen had an official opening at his shop and atelier last night; I was there and it was a great party and opportunity to see Zelen’s creative eye at work in developing and editing a beautiful and ecclectic collection of products for the home. Objects ranged from handsome jewlery pieces to a collection of miniature, handmade paper shoes, to a stunning pair of large antique mirrors and oversized desks and tables. There’s a mix of the old, and the new, and don’t miss Zelen’s handmade products, lavender popurris, hand stitched cashmere blankets and framed seaweed botanicals all made with skill and love.
The prices are reasonable, accross all levels and as the Holidays approach and we move inisde our homes from our gardens, there’s something for everyone here.
Definitely worth a visit. Note too, that Zelen has a design business where he will design your home or garden… recognizing where the economy is, Dan never shies away from a tight budget but manages to do it with the style and creativity you’re not going to get from Pottery Barn.
