Crave Bakery

After a few email conversations with Cameo, I decided to go with gluten-​free cupcakes instead of a cake for my event. I picked up a sampler pack. The choices were SO good that we didn’t even pick chocolate, which is always my favorite! (I think the flavors we chose were Dulce de Leche and Spice Banana.)
Coordinating everything with Cameo was so easy. She is super responsive to emails and phone calls. And she also understood that I had to work within a budget and was not pushy at all.
I was thrilled to have fancy gluten-​free cupcakes that I could eat at my commitment ceremony. I even got to try both flavors. The only thing that made me a little sad was that there weren’t any left over to take home. That just speaks to how yummy they were that our guest ate them all!
I will definitely think of Crave for my next special occasion!

I had a special birthday cake made for my fiancé for his 30^th birthday. Cameo was extremely helpful and didn’t get mad at me when I changed the pick-​up date and time a million times. Her designer, Kelly, made us a beautiful cake and my fiancé loved it! I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Let Them Eat Cake!
I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Then I realized I was eating one of Crave’s gluten free chocolate cakes with white icing! I haven’t eaten cake in awhile, and I have to say I definitely don’t feel deprived after eating this one. The texture and flavor were top notch. My only comment is there was too much icing (did I just say that?) and the icing was a little greasy. But just leave some icing on your plate for Miss Manners and you’re set! I would definitely recommend this cake. As a baker myself, I know how hard it is to create a masterpiece without wheat. And they have definitely done it!

I had a good experience with Crave for my wedding. We worked with Cameo on the contract side of it and Kelly Zubal was the baker. We ordered an ordinary cake (with gluten) and it was absolutely delicious. It was three layers, two with chocolate cake and salted caramel toffee buttercream, and one white cake with white chocolate buttercream and raspberry. We also ordered a small gluten-​free lemon cake for my dad and brother, who really liked it. We tried several different bakers and this was our favorite. Kelly was easy to work with and you could tell that she really thought about the flavors and used delicious and interesting combinations. The design was also really beautiful. We got many compliments on the taste and design of the cakes.

I ordered this cake for my son’s 1^st bday party. It was safari theme and Kelly the designer did such a GREAT job! I LOVED how it turned out. Also, Cameo was really quick to answer my emails and get everything setup!

They made our wedding absolutely spectacular. I mean, over the top beautiful.
My husband has been dealing with Celiac for 15+ years, and trying to find a gluten-​free wedding cake was disheartening… that is until we found Crave.
I cannot begin to express our gratitude. After being met with multiple, «well, we can do chocolate but it won’t be very good» from many reputable «we have gluten-​free stuff» places, I can tell you, Crave is absolutely amazing.
Amazing. If I could give 10 stars, I would.
We chose a vanilla cake with lemon filling (fresh of course) for our wedding cake, and I surprised my honey with his favorite, carrot, for our groom’s cake — and they did an astounding job. We had a lot of tragedy associated with our wedding (our best man passed away two weeks before the wedding, the day my honey was supposed to begin his bachelor party… which never happened), and I cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciated the low-​stress, professional, and caring people at Crave. Imagine being two weeks out, dealing with intense grief and having to carry on through the planning associated with a wedding. I cannot begin to thank the folks at Crave enough for their caring, their timeliness, and their AWESOME cake.
Our cake was obviously delivered on time, was gorgeous, and all of our guests (we had an increased list due to the tragedy, which our friends at Crave handled sublimely) thought it was delicious! I think it might have been the only thing I was able to eat that night, since we were talking with everyone all night long… wow.
The bonus though, was our rafting-​themed groom’s cake, which made it to brunch the next morning. It was AWESOME. I will post some pics if I can because, really, any verbal description cannot do their artwork justice.
Highly professional, DELICIOUS, gorgeous, easy to work with, lovely people who care about what they do. Their prices are worth every cent and then some.
Thank you so much for being such a positive part of our wedding. And now? I’m going to hit them up for my best friend’s baby shower…

So, let me first premise this review with the fact that I had to find a baker that could handle a last minute order during the busiest season for their industry AND I DID have another baker set up months in advanced for a surprise baby shower for my instructor and his wife. A place closer for me to pick up even. Only to be told that they had overbooked and since my order was a small one (70 people) I was the one getting bumped (translation: MONEY). After writing a writhing review against this bakery company (one that doesn’t even need mention here) on Unilocal,I found CRAVE BAKERY.
I am a martial arts instructor of Tuzon’s ATA Martial Arts in Livermore, CA and a student of Master Schreiber’s ATA Martial Arts in Martinez, CA. My instructor and his wife are having their first child and I came up with the idea of throwing a shower for the dad (which his wife was completely supporting of). I needed a cake for 70 adults and kids and within a week and a half!
Allison and Mercedes were so professional and accomodating with this last minute order! This was a martial arts themed baby shower and the cake was to represent a father/​son doing martial arts together!
Allison suggested a mini-​wedding cake style and cupcakes for the kids.
If I could post a pic of the cake, I would… It was absolutely awesome! And the flavor of this cake and cupcakes were just beyond belief!
Master Schreiber and his wife loved the artistry of the cake. And EVERYONE loved the flavor. The kids were a bit disappointed that they were limited to cupcakes. But only for a minute as they were consumed with the awesomeness of those cupcakes.
Everyone asked ‘where did you get the cake?’ and when I answered ‘Crave Bakery in the City’, they were like you went to pick up in San Fransisco? And I said YES! So many compliments from all guests and the kids and the guests of honor!
I talked you up as much as I could, so your name is out there! I plan on using Crave Bakery for EVERY baking need in the future!

Anyone who will honor a special request to make GF cupcakes TOPPED WITH BACON deserves 5,000 stars.

I should note that I can eat gluten, and tried Crave because I want dairy-​free goods. The cakes and cupcakes are pretty good, IF you microwave them for 20 seconds! (I thought they were pretty bad without doing so.)
VANILLA CUPCAKES: Okay. but frosting is super sugary, with little taste and a fatty mouthfeel.
CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES AND MAMA Z CAKE: Texture is crumbly and too dry. The ganache frosting is good, but the cake doesn’t taste good UNLESS you microwave for 20 seconds.
I’m glad they make nutritional info available for products.

I should be angry with Crave Bakery for making my boyfriend fat, but to be honest it was his own damn fault. He was so excited to be eating a real cupcake that he went and ate six in one sitting at a party hosted by my very good, and fellow gluten-​free friend, Polly P.
While I have a very good flourless chocolate cake/​brownie recipe, neither of us has ever had such a deliciously cakey dessert since D discovered his gluten allergy. Despite being gluten AND casein free, our cupcakes were fluffy, flavorful, and completely without any of the weird flavors or textures that one typically gets with gluten free food. The frosting was unbelievably creamy, tasted like whipped cream, and was adorably decorated. I am a gluten free sympathizer but do not have an allergy, and even I could not taste the difference between them and a regular cupcake.
Crave is a wholesale bakery, so sadly they don’t have a store of their own. But, the products can be found throughout the Bay Area at grocery stores, and the bakery does special orders, for which a review will come in November when I get D’s birthday cake.

I have tried all sorts of gluten free and dairy free treats over the years, but the chocolate cake that I ordered for my husband’s birthday was the absolute best I have ever had. Everyone that had some of the cake could not believe that it was GF/​DF. It was delicious, rich, perfectly chocolaty, sweet (but not too sweet), and had a wonderful texture. It was not the least bit dry, nor too dense. I highly recommend this bakery!

i ordered a cake for my wife’s birthday fairly last minute. called maybe a day and a half before… they were very accommodating and understanding and did whatever they could to help me out. i was just really impressed with the general customer service and it felt like i was just talking to a friend about how to get a cake done for my wife.
the cake turned out great… it looked fabulous and was very chocolaty. in my opinion it’s hard to compare gf cakes to non-​gf cakes. it’s not really fair. the cake was an excellent gf cake. the best we’ve tasted. but yes, it’s gf cake.
but i give 5 stars because the service was fantastic, the cake was the best gf cake i’ve tasted… and i’m even looking for a reason to get another one for my wife. it’s not cheap [but i can understand why it cost what it i did with all the different ingredients]… but for my wife who’s allergic to gluten… it’s more than worth it. i’m very impressed and look forward to my next gf-​delight.

holy crap, the cupcakes are GOOD! and i’m a cupcake-​a-​holic. gluten-​free, schmuten-​free. run to whole foods and buy some today! i’m totally sold!

Very tasty delights for the celiac and non-​celiac alike. I always buy and serve their brownies without anyone knowing they are GF. Tasty brownies, all varieties. A little on the crumbly side, but this is to be expected with GF foods. Yum-​yum!

Pumpkin tarte is really good, my friends had no idea that they were eating gluten-​free food!

Their brownies and cakes are so good. I’m sure I’ve developed a taste for gluten-​free food, but even my «normal» friends think their stuff is yummy.

Oh my gawd, these brownies/​cakes/​cupcakes/​drugs, whatever you wanna call it were to die for. They were soooooooooooo good! I didn’t realize they they were wheat, gluten and dairy free until I picked up their flyer and these goodies were still so good!
Tried multiple pieces of the banana and chocolate brownies during the free offerings at TODO party and I was practically inhaling each piece. My friend had to hold me back before I swallowed the entire plate! I’ve to locate the store or places that carry this heavenly goodie. *GULP*, this is not good for the waistline but since they are wheat, gluten and dairy free, maybe it is healthier? The lil card did mention that their baked goods do no contain preservatives or trans fat! Ok, I can indulge 5 more!

Crave bakery has changed my life! ok I know that sounds dramatic, but as some one who suffers from celiac disease (I can’t eat anything with wheat or any type of gluten in it) finding a product that satisfies my sweet tooth without making me horribly sick is truly a godsend. The brownies, cakes and cookies are all amazing. Even my friends who can eat wheat think that these are the best brownies on the market.
