A coworker and I headed to the Comstock Saloon after a conference one night. We were able to find seats at the bar and I was immediately impressed by the historical décor. It felt like we were in an old gold rush town. The bartender turned out to be one of the owners and he was really friendly as he told us the history of the bar. My coworker has many food allergies and she ended up making a very complicated order out of something that should have been straight forward. The bartender took it in stride and never made her feel like an inconvenience. He also had great suggestions on drinks, each of which was delicious. I highly recommend sitting at the bar if you make it the Comstock Saloon.

Our waiter was foo foo in the best way. Happy hour cocktails are strong but good. According to our waiter, all their cocktails have the same alcohol content… Joke or not, I don’t know. Overall, a charming spot. The live music was a pleasant surprise.

Day drinking has been more desirable to me lately than at happy hour with all the crowds. I like being able to go to Comstock Saloon during the day where everything is nice and quite. The staff can attend to your needs. The service is a lot quicker. Also, plenty of seating so no worries about being close proximity with other patron. We ordered: South Side = Gin, lemon, and mint. Refreshing and tangy. Cheery Bounce = Bourbon, cherry brandy, champagne, and lemon. One of their popular drinks! Hendrick’s = with a twist. Overall, I like this place and the ambiance. I hope you give these tasty cocktails a try. Cheers!

We walked in on a Friday afternoon, shortly before the clock hit 5pm. It was packed but there was one booth table remaining(in the upper bar area that has the big windows) and we swiftly glued ourselves to the seats. I had a boba tea in my hand which the waitress refused to let me keep. I said that’s fine and told her to throw it out for me. She took a while before taking our first order and I really wanted to get my drinking game on early. The bartenders were great mixologists, but then again, we ordered off their specials menu — if they couldn’t make what’s on their menu very well, they shouldn’t have it listed, right? It’s a vibrant bar at the skirt of Chinatown and has a lot of sunlight coming through — as you can see, I’m sitting right where the finger’s pointing ;) It can get really crowded here so plan accordingly. The bartenders take their sweet time making your drink, so be prepared to feel jittery for about 10 mins before they bring you your drink if you’re not sitting at the bar. The Pisco Punch and John Collins(very strong) were both great. We were going to order oysters but completely stuffed from our dim sum meal just minutes before and decided to skip on that(besides, we had plans to go near the wharf for oysters or even just across the street from our hotel). The place has an overall very cozy and nice feel to it. The bathroom could use an automatic air re-freshener… holy cow it stankkkkkk. There’s one on each end near the bottom/back-side bar.

The food is good. The drinks are solid — but there are one or two bartenders w/a bit too much attitude for me. When I go, it’s because«out of towners» are looking for a «solid SF experience in NoBe» or we’re already in the area. To be clear — you’re sure to have a great time if you’re focus is strictly on the group of people with whom you’re hanging out. Do not go to Comstock Saloon expecting to engage w/friendly ‘bartenders/mixologists’.
