I met Michael when he was an assistant at Cowboys and Angels. As soon as he hit the floor as a colorist, I switched to his care. That was 10 years ago. Over the years he has grown as a colorist, keeping current with color trends and honing his artistic skills. He clearly loves what he does and it shows. People are surprised to learn that I am covering grey as my hair color is so natural looking. I cannot recommend Michael enough — as long as there is always an appointment for me :)

I came to Michael a few years ago after I left another colorist who was destroying my hair and making me look awful. He understood right away how to fix it and give me a more natural color that would highlight my features instead of washing them out. But it just keeps getting better. Michael knows color better than anyone I’ve ever been to. I leave after every appointment feeling amazing. I get so many compliments on my hair and I really feel like he has very deft hand at covering my stubborn greys and making the color last without creating that dreaded line of regrowth. He’s the best. Period.

Michael is truly amazing! I have been going to him for over 4 years for highlights. Most of my friends now see Michael because they love how natural my highlights look. Like Cherylynn N, I followed Michael from Cowboy to Sammy Oliver and will follow him to his new hip Salon called Veer and Wander on 6 Brady Street: See Michael’s review in Allure Magazine Page 3:

Next to a woman’s face, the MOST important thing is her hair. A person’s hairstyle and color can make a world of difference in their overall look and attitude. Blondes have more fun. Redheads have spunk. Brunettes have more confidence. I believe that all the clichés are true. Depending on my mood, I’ve gone through all three. As a child and teen, I didn’t have a job because my parents believed that I should solely devote all my attention to school. That did no good as I still don’t know what the hell a quadratic equation is. *sigh* No job means brokeassness(which still applies today but to a different level). Being the typical cheap Chinese mom, my mom didn’t believe in going to the salon other than getting the semi-yearly $ 5 haircuts in Chinatown(I would never subject my future kids to that kind of torture.) What did that mean for me? Endless nights of crying myself to sleep from botched DIY hair coloring jobs. My attempts of going blonde turned me into a florescent yellow highlighter while trying to go red made me a pumpkin head. Not cute. Entering adulthood and having a job meant, I can whatever the hell I wanted with my money. No more DIY hair coloring jobs for me. My previous hairstylist who I was seeing for years was moving to a new suite and was having plumbing issues. I had to cheat. I just had to. My roots were outta control and I needed to get it colored before leaving on a trip so I spent three days on Unilocal furiously reading reviews. This led me to Michael Madalinski from the popular Cowboys & Angels. Review after review, Michael’s name kept on popping as the go-to guy for color. I did a google search and found he was named by Allure Magazine as SF’s Top Colorist. SOLD!!! My first visit with Michael at Cowboy & Angels, I came in with dreadful black roots, a dark brown base and minimal top blonde highlights and I left with voluminous hair filled with honey gold highlights. LOVEDIT. My review for Cowboys & Angels: After my second visit, Michael called and informed me that he was moving to the Sammy Oliver Salon. Though I was sad because I wouldn’t be able to see Tim Aylward for a cut(the BEST hairstylist in SF) at the same time, I HAD to follow Michael so I made an appointment with him for early March. Because blondes really do have MORE fun(*wink*), I told Michael that I wanted to stick with the blonde highlights but have more of a contrasting brown base. Being the Coloring God that he is, he worked his magic and the results were exactly what I wanted. Did I mention that my hair has been the most healthiest it has ever been? I haven’t had a split end in 6 months since seeing Michael so I know he uses top-notch hair coloring products. It’s not cheap(pricing: ) but I’m a person who truly believes that you get what you pay for. I know more than anyone those $ 5 haircuts I use to get as a kid has permanently scarred me for life not to mention those $ 7.99DIY hair coloring kits so I’ll pay a pretty penny for results I want AND love! You will not be disappointed nor will you ever have to cry yourself to sleep when in the hands of Michael. If you don’t trust me, trust Allure… Michael Madalinski is the BEST colorist in SF. PERIOD. Oh yah, he’s super cute too! ;)
