Been coming to the CSB&G for a long time. It’s not for everyone, but it’s a timeless classic for a lot of us: My favorite items that I highly recommend: –the soups are always very well done –the green salad is a great choice too, amazing dressing –crabcakes and roasted garlic bulb apps are a MUSTTRY! –all the fish dishes are always solid –steaks are also cooked great and the mashed potatoes are delish! –I’d stay away from the pasta’s except for the meyer lemon linguine –For specials, if they have it that day, always for for the: pork chop, duck breast, beef stew All the desserts are delicious. Hope these recommendations help!

If you love this place as much as we do(or always meant to try it) come back soon, because the owner is looking to retire, and while he hopes to find someone who will keep it in the same spirit as he did all these years, it nevertheless won’t be the same.

What a great place! I’ve been eating here for 20+ years and have never been disappointed. It’s not Gary Danko and does not pretend to be. Instead CSBG provides good meals, great service, wonderful atmosphere and friendly neighborhood service. Friday’s there is live piano. Sunday brunch is great. Watching a Giants game at the bar is always a good time. The usual crowd is older — probably indicative that this is one of the last stands in SF for a city atmosphere that is sadly disappearing — but the vibe is good and people are interested/interesting/friendly.

Our waiter recommended the fresh herb fettuccine and it is incredible. Highly recommend! The fresh, warm sourdough bread is yummy & even the garden salad had a surprisingly flavorful dressing. Our waiter always had a smile on his face and provided great recommendations.

Best bartenders! Food good! Need more variance in menu. What they have is good though. Not noisey! You can eat and have a coversation too!

Fantastic time here. Cocktails were done really well, I had pear martinis and my wife had a Manhattan. Starters we had ceasars salad and pea soup, both wrte fantastic. Main course was delicious, I had petrole sole and my wife had Meyer lemon linguini with scallops and prawns. Definitely worth it!

I have been eating at Clement Street Bar & Grill since 1981. The fresh food remains consistently delicious along with great service. The menu has a variety of choices to please many different tastes. The owner who never seems to age works along with his staff who have been part of the restaurant’s family for many years. I highly recommend Clement Street Bar & Grill.

I think my last one star review was 8 years ago… I have never felt so disrespected at an establishment and as you can see from my reviews, I’ve been to many. I was basically told by the bartender that I was«too loud». So try an enjoy your meal with an even tone and then maybe you won’t receive any flack from the restaurant. So then I tried to tell the manager what the bartender said and the manager said, «You were loud, I’m surprised that your friends didn’t tell you how loud you were.» So I go to my friends and tell them what he said and they disagreed. Didn’t know there was a «tone» requirement at a bar… Needless to say, I won’t be coming here again. Heaven forbid that I actually have a good time at a bar… Don’t worry… I learned my lesson Clement Bar and Grill…

Don’t come here unless you want to pay $ 11 for a glass of Kendall Jackson pinot, treated coldly and be told off by management that you are too loud in a quiet atmosphere. We sat at the bar where the bartender greeted us. After perusing the wine list written up on the wall where the wine was vastly overpriced for supermarket brands, we settled upon the Moscow Mule. Little Russia wasn’t that far away, and a cocktail was more appealing given the markups… plus the Moscow Mule listing was highlighted on the board. How can we resist? The three of us had our conversation about the woes of where we are in our careers and what we want to do in our lives. After our round was almost done, the bartender came up, and told my normally energetic and exuberant friend to keep her voice down. This is her normal voice. She was so insulted that we decided to leave and get dinner. However, before we left, she went back to talk to the manager. Instead of explaining his position, he proceeded to dig himself in to a deeper hole by saying, «I’m surprised your friends didn’t tell you how loud you were.» Ahem, please do not drag us in to it, and to us, she was being herself. After that experience, you crushed my friend’s confident and beautiful spirit for the rest of the night. In fact, why is your restaurant so quiet, with hardly any background noise? The Moscow Mules were good: strong on the liquor, perfect sweetness and served in an ice cold copper mug, but after that treatment, I will not be back again, even though this is my neighborhood. And I will spread the word.

The place was packed to the gills and they ran out of potatoes, potatoes! Every meal comes with potatoes. Didn’t matter, the food was outstanding. The staff was running around like mad and yet they still were helpful, professional and attentive. This place is a gem.

Not quite sure why people aren’t loving this place. Is it the age factor? This is traditional fancy eating. Napkins and table cloth. Candle on the table. Bar! 4 kinds of beer on tap. Enjoyed the nice homey ambiance. There’s a neighborhood feel. Great, attentive service. Cold nights means some nice hot liquids refills. The crab cake was good. The linguine was full of garlic and the shrimp and scallop were all fresh. Loved the blue cheese salad. The homemade ice cream was delicious.

This was the best burger but by far the rudest service I have ever had in San Francisco in 30 years. This is not very smart, because there are a lot of fantastic restaurants with impeccable service. We will definitely not be back. We made it clear that we were first timers and new to the neighborhood. When we asked for a refill only one time, we were very rudely told that there are no refills on Coke but received a condescending remark about about how she would give us one anyway – as if it was a real favor. Yeah, right. Being a nurse, I always try to make sure that whatever mess I have is neat before I leave the table. Even after she was rude, we did the same thing, and yet, she threw the napkins across the table as she was picking up our plates. Yes, that’s right, across us sitting there. good food is not enough in the city. Get over yourselves.

I had to send my steak back, it was over cooked. By a lot. I ordered medium rare, I got well done. The second steak was better. The service here is awful. If you aren’t over 60 and a white male they have no interest in you. The bartender was unattentive and downright rude to me. The old white guys around me were treated like royalty. This place is a huge disappointment. I’ve tried it a few times now, and the results are always the same. It’s not a one off night, it’s a thing. Avoid.

Traditional American comfort food in a classic establishment. I have enjoyed dinner and brunch here on several occasions and have never been disappointed with the quality and the generous portions. Great hollandaise sauce. The crowd tends to squew toward retirement age, so if you are hoping to woop it up, this is not your place. They usual have a coupon in the value mailer — so check before you chuck out that little blue envelope.

We love this place! Classic food and establishment. Great service and value prices! My father was so thrilled with this place that he request we come every fathers day. My Parisian Aunt was equally thrilled and thought it was similar to a French Bistro. Thank you Clement Street Bar and Grill for all that you provide the neighborhood!

If you’re over 60 or you like the safe bland food that they used to make in the 1950s then this is your spot. If not then don’t bother.

I am a fan. Of the food, the football game on TV, the interior, and the waiter. This place does not get 5 stars, because the bartender seemed prejudiced. She was nasty to me when I first arrived, and wouldn’t look me in the eye when I asked her about her day. Maybe she was mean to me because I’m Asian, since she was nice and helpful to the people who came in after me who were of European descent. But I’m no judge, so I forgave her bad attitude and sat in a booth under a skylight. Maybe because of the way the bartender treats some people is why this place had few customers. The only sounds in the place besides people and restaurant clanging was the sound of one of the televisions with the 49ers game on. It was Sunday. Otherwise, everything else was good. I came in for the banana cream pie. Oh gracious, that pie was one of the best banana creams I’ve ever had. It was freshly made, not dried from sitting in a cooler for hours. The goat cheese salad was well-proportioned and its dressing was fresh. The wine selection is pretty good and not expensive. The pinot grigio was decent, especially for $ 7.50. The waiter was friendly and happy to chat since there were few customers. He served well and made sure I was satisfied. The thing I like most about Clement St Grill is that it’s good old American fare without the expensive art in a comfortable room. I don’t know another place like that in the Richmond. Beats diners. If you’re Asian, and you get the same nasty attitude from this bartender, shower her with patience and kindness. Maybe she will come around.

That’s weird, I thought I reviewed Clement St Bar and Grill way back when my dad brought me out for dinner. I had a chicken sandwich which was decent, and a gin and tonic, which was watered down. Maybe I would have been less gracious with my words had I written it after that. This time around was a much better experience. I went with a group of friends following a bottomless mimosa morning brunch at Ironside, so I was already in high spirits. My friend and I split the Lamb with Mashed Potatoes and salad and it was so good. Perfectly moist and cooked to medium, really velvety and flavorful. I had the Manhattan, along with the rest of my table and it was stiff yet smooth. This place could easily turn into a staple for me.

Damn, this place made me feel young! We’d just missed the 4pm dinner rush when we stepped in around 8pm. We quickly realized we were the only table who was under the 60+ age range. It was fine, just weird. And awkward. Who wants to see dentures in a cup while they’re chewing on their burger? Not me, but hey, it happens. The food was mediocre at best, and the service was just fine. Not that I normally care about the clientele, but this was just overkill. I mean, a few youngsters wouldn’t have hurt. And NOT charging $ 1.50 for avocado, another $ 1.50 for bacon, and $ 1.50 for cheese on my burger would be nice, too. …Just sayin’.

The boyfriend and I came here last Sunday because I had received a coupon in the mail for a two person brunch for $ 25. We came late in the afternoon so the restaurant was pretty empty. A nice older gentleman helped us and was very polite. The meal came with a basket with a delicious cinnamon cranberry bagel and some sweet breads, a choice entrée(there was a whole list ranging from French toast, steak and eggs, Benedicts), and a a mimosa or Bloody Mary. We both ordered the crab cake Benedict. It was really good but after eating one I kind of felt grossed out because the crab was so rich. However, that didn’t stop me from picking at my plate until everything was gone. Our entrees came with a little bit of fruit on the side too! When we got the bill, our waiter gave us back the coupon and informed us we could again which was really nice. I’m sure we’ll be back again :)
