Churchill has quickly become one of my favorite spots in San Francisco. As someone who owns a dog, I tend to feel guilty going out but Churchill has made made my life so easy. Great drinks and seasonal beers makes this spot phenomenal. Can’t tell you how happy I feel bringing my pup along with me.

Discovered this place on a first date many moons ago and I asked my then date, «Did you choose this place because of less straight male competition?» Here again today so I guess I’ve looked back since …

Solid ambiance. Drinks are a cut above. Little heavy on the syrups/bitters, light on the liquor based on what I observed from pours. Low point of the evening was the busser tossing fruit on the table into unfinished drinks of those of us playing pool then starting to walk away. Just no. At least replace the cocktails.

Cool, dark vibe. The portrait of Winston Churchill and the large painting of the American flag(pre-Hawaii/Alaska) spurred a lively discussion of the policies pf the last 30 or so U. S presidents. I enjoyed my pear cider.

I came here before dinner at House of Prime Rib and had a fantastic mezcal cocktail! Also, its two levels which is nice if you want to somewhat escape the hectic bar area and sit and have a drink with friends. There is also a pool table which is always a plus in my books!

The place is beautiful, the bartenders pay attention and though it’s pricey, it’s not so much that you feel it in your colon. I visited on an afternoon, but I’ve been in the evening as well. Both times were great fun, and both times did a try a great variety of beers and some tasty cocktails. They allow food to be brought in and dogs as well.

My friend and I walked over right after having dinner at Chow, and apparently we made it just in time for Happy Hour at Churchill which is between 4PM and 8PM on weekdays. There is tons of open space and huge tables. Apparently Churchill is also an events space, which got me thinking about future events I want to host here… Anyways, we ordered cocktails that tasted a little too sweet, syrupy, and weak for my taste. The service was good though and the vibe is awesome. This place is good for groups with its large tables and couch seating along the windows. It’s right next to the Church Muni station. Not much else to say except meh.

Great spot. They have cocktails specials and also a cocktail list. I had the black prince and it was a pretty strong drink, not very tasty though. The crowd is great and the music isn’t bad either. My friends has the improved whiskey cocktail. They also allow dogs so you can drink while you get a dose of puppy love

One of my friend’s neighborhood bars. I don’t go to this area much, so I was happy to check out a new bar. The three of us came by on Friday, August 14th around 8:30pm for a round of drinks. *Resistenza: rye whiskey, Italian vermouth, amer, bitters($ 10) *Old fashioned I adore the drinks and atmosphere here. Dark and sexy, but still comfy. We were able to find a table in the corner with was perfect! I love nights with good drinks and company. Good stiff drinks. And at $ 10 each?! I’ll be back.

Have you ever gone on a mediocre date with the same person twice? Let me clarify… there’s nothing wrong with the person. They’re attractive, friendly, etc. — but somehow you just don’t gel. The chemistry is simply not there. That’s kind of how I feel about Churchill. I’ve been here a couple of times now for happy hour. Since it was earlier in the evening, the place was kind of quiet. It was just me, the bartender, and a few regulars. Pedestrians walking by must have assumed I was a bar fly. The first time I came in, I ordered a $ 6 drink. I handed the bartender a $ 10, and he never came back with any change. In retrospect, I should’ve asked for my change. But then again, I didn’t want to come across as cheap. But still… a $ 4 tip for a $ 6 beverage seems a bit outrageous. The second time I came in, I had a similarly bizarre experience. I saddled up at the bar, and the first thing the bartender said to me was that they didn’t have any beers on tap because something or another wasn’t working. Um… ok. No biggie. Besides, I don’t drink beer anyway. So I went ahead and ordered a Fernet Branca. The bartender then asked if I had tried this new version of Fernet that had just hit the market. I said I was game, and he poured me a shot. The drink was fine. But for $ 8 a pop, it wasn’t exactly happy hour pricing. Since I didn’t want to repeat the tipping snafu of my previous experience, I handed the guy my credit card. The bartender gladly accepted it and then as I started sipping my drink, he revealed to me that there was a $ 20 credit card minimum. Um… excuse me? This info would’ve been really helpful a few minutes earlier(before I had placed my drink order.) So what started out as a quick happy hour, suddenly turned in to a $ 20 tab. As I mentioned before, Churchill is a perfectly decent bar to grab a beverage. But there’s just something about my two interactions here that have rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe it was just me. Maybe I’m too picky. In any case, I wish them the best of luck. I just don’t think I’ll be asking for another date any time soon.

Churchill is at a great location near all the Muni lines(J, N, 24, 22) for drinks to catch up with friends or network! I came here for a career happy hour with an environmental group. I got there a little late, but I managed to talk with a few people — and the drink I had was good and strong at the right amount! This place has lots of windows, table seated areas, bar room, standing area and softer-seated area.

Good Music, good company, friendly bartenders, and Happy Hour till 8 pm. If this place was down the street from my office I would be here every week. The best thing of all this place never really got crowded. One thing that can make a happy hour unhappy if you have to fight through crowds to go to the bathroom and scream at the top of your lungs just to talk to the friend next to you or to spit game at the hottie at the bar(or at least I would assume so…). I came here early on a thursday with some friends for a going away party and I felt like I was hanging out in someone’s living room. I grabbed a cheap cocktail which was mixed nicely. There is not much to say except that you’ll have a good time at this gem a block away from MUNI.

Overall decent bar, but it is never a place that I actively want to go to but rather end up at. The crowd and the space don’t usually make for a great night out. It is extremely loud, even when it isn’t packed. Always have a hard time having a conversation with anyone, and if they aren’t immediately next to me I don’t even bother trying. The cocktails are pretty good tho. And if you have a friend who enjoys Mezcal, this a place to take them and let them run wild. For entertainment, they have one pool table. Definitely not a bar that attracts people that are really interesting in playing the game, more of the crowd that enjoys playing a relaxed 20 minute game with their girlfriend. The table is also situated uncomfortably close to the walls, making it difficult to shoot from certain sides of the table. The restrooms are definitely above par.

Went here on President’s day since Elbo Room was closed. I’ll admit that when I walked in I was slightly off-put by the interior. It’s extremely dark and there was almost no one inside(albeit it was a Monday afternoon). However, I’m very glad I didn’t judge this book by its cover. Churchill is a military themed bar with décor and drink names that echo a World War 2 vibe. There’s big couches for lounging, but the extremely dim lighting kind of fought against our ability to chill and carry a conversation. I was very impressed by the attention to detail in everything I came across and I recognizing the lighting was more of a personal problem since no one else seemed to mind. Drinks: We both ordered the Marshall plan. This cocktail, from their suggested cocktails list, is a mix of Mt. Gay rum, pumpkin-apple cider, ginger beer, and lemon. For ten dollars this cocktail is well-priced given it’s quality ingredients(and it’s strength, one was enough get a small buzz going). I was impressed by the taste, although in comparison to the other cocktails I’ve seen on Unilocal and from other customers I was slightly underwhelmed by the presentation. As far as service goes there seemed to only be one staff member, the bartender. Although there was only about eight of us in the bar she seemed in a sort of rush and every time we managed to get her attention she acted like she didn’t really have time to talk to us. Nothing too out of the ordinary it was just slightly difficult to get some information on the drinks. Next time I’m in the area I’ll definitely be back. There were at least two or three other cocktails I’m itching to try, so I at least have to come back to sample those. Also, I really want to try their beef jerky, if I hadn’t just come from a big lunch I would have ordered them since they looked so appetizing in their huge jar. If you’re in need of a good drink and a place to relax, Churchill may be a solid choice for you. Til next time, keep eating keep learning.

This is one of THE cocktail bars to visit in San Francisco. The chalkboards on the wall list the current libations to order, but the bartenders here probably know a few hundred more off the menu. I ordered a beer served out of a mason jar, and my friends got cocktails that looked as beautiful as they tasted. The clientele consists of a generally younger professional crowd of after work people, cocktail nerds, beer fanatics, pool players, and their friends. It’s a fun atmosphere, never too loud, sometimes too crowded, but always fun.

ADRIAN!!! No…I’m not quoting Rocky here. I’m just giving props to Adrian at Churchill, who’s probably my favorite bartender in SF, who also happens to sling drinks at one of my favorite cocktail lounges in SF. Adrian made me an absolutely delicious custom gin creation with cucumber and mint — reminded me a bit of an East Side Rickey, and was perfect on an unseasonably warm San Francisco day. I didn’t think anything could get better than the gin drink, until he made me a classic Aviation cocktail(gin, maraschino liqueur, crème de violette, and lemon juice). I haven’t had a lot of Aviations before, so I might not be the best judge — but this one knocked my socks off. So much flavor, so much smoothness. Yum. Another thing: I **love** the décor of the place. Love the ropes everywhere and antique touches. It’s like my fantasy living room. There’s also a pool table in the back.(Upon further reflection, I realized that no one was actually playing pool. The local clientele were mostly leaning against the pool table while flirting with one another.) Needless to say, I love this place. Thanks to Churchill and its equally boozy neighbor right around the corner(Blackbird), the corner of Church & Market might be the best place to imbibe in all of SF right now!
