I buy all my retro Old style Chinese dinner plates here, these are the same style they would have used in Chinese restaurants back in the 1960’s — 1970’s, I like the classic style with the Dragons and designs, they also sell other dishes with the same designs, I saw a nice large soup bowl Im planning to pick up next time with the same art work. This is a quiet old store with a friendly owner, they have a pretty nice selection of odds & ends. I prefer to enter from the Portsmouth Square chinatown park side, less crowded and easy to go in.

This place is hidden and really random. There’s two ways you can get to this store. The first way is to walk through a certain store on Grant St and go down a flight of stairs to get to this place. The second way is to enter through the entrance behind Portsmouth Square in Chinatown. I discovered this place when I was wandering Chinatown as a little kid. I used to go on Grant St and go through this store when I didn’t feel like walking on the street when going to Portsmouth Square. Anyways, this store sells bowls, noodles, figures of buddhist gods, and some other random things.

What an oddly-situated store! Descend the stairs in a typical touristy shop along Grant Avenue and you will find this completely unrelated space. My mom and I stood there looking puzzled for a few seconds before our shopping frenzy began. While the store upstairs is hawking freshwater pearls, jade trinkets and silk purses like every other store along Grant, this place has the type of items you’ll find in the more humble(and useful) stores along Stockton Street. Kitchen utensils, teapots, baskets of all sizes, snacks, all sorts of bulk teas, knick-knacks, plates and bowls, sake and even small furniture. It’s a little dusty and low-rent in look and feel, but it gets points for sheer variety. There’s an entrance along Walter U. Lum Place behind Portsmouth Square, so if you work in the Financial District and have a need for a totally random item, this might be your solution!
