The food is always on point! I have been going there for 7 years every time i am in SF. I have never gotten sick. Hopefully they get on board with the inspection stuff…

We didn’t see the health warning until after we ordered! However, we stayed and enjoyed our meal. Egg rolls were so good and deep fried perfectly and came with a sweet sauce for dipping similar to a sweet and sour sauce. Yum!!! Wonton soup and the tomato beef were not what we were expecting but it was alright. Tomato beef was in a reddish orange sauce that was semi sweet and had bell peppers and onions as well. Orange chicken had a good flavor but was slightly over cooked. There were tons of locals there as well as tourists. The place was packed. The place is old and not updated but tables were clean and waitstaff were very nice.

Best family Chinese food in San Francisco. Great chicken fried rice. We ordered with no veggies. Slow service but think it’s because they take their time w preparation. Very authentic surroundings. Excellent beef and broccoli. Sweet and sour chicken very tasty. Chicken chow mein is fabulous. Kids loved it and are picky eaters!

Horrible service, and are very expensive in both food and drinks. When I attended this restaurant, we were given a dirty table that wasn’t set up like the rest. The food is very small portions. The BBQ pork fried rice was cold, the Orange chicken and Mongolian beef were overcooked, and the egg rolls were overcooked as well. When we finished our food we waited a long time for the bill, and as well as waiting to give them or money. The restaurant itself is unsanitary. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant if you are looking for an authentic and clean Chinese restaurant. I would give it 0 stars if possible.

We parked near this restaurant for lunch during rush hour. Well, we were in luck when we stopped inside. The waitress helped out my mom and dad to order some noodle dishes. Well, the service was fast and good. We were able to get our meal relatively fast and it was a little after noon. So, we were pretty hungry after touring Japantown. My favorite would have to be the beef noodle soup.

We visited this restaurant blind and were glad we did. It was bustling w/Chinese-speaking locals late on a Sunday night. The food was delicious… I especially loved the chicken with black pepper lo mein. Yum.

Yikes. I could tell why this place didn’t get the best safety ratings. Yet it was still bustling with business from large parties of Chinese families and friends so they must like the food. My experience wasn’t that great though. Service was slow and inattentive. We ordered prawns and flounder with tofu. The sauce on the prawns was so strong and salty I had to take a sip of tea between each bite. The tofu was really soft but the flounder was a little overcooked. There are better restaurants in Chinatown.

Great food. My wife and I haven’t had good Chinese food in like 6 months, so thank god for Chinatown in San Francisco. If you are down here, this is definitely a frat place to eat, check it out :)

Why am I not surprised at the poor health inspection score here? After all, you climb down a flight of worn stairs into a basement to eat here. You immediately see the familiar round tables with pink tablecloths that you see at almost every restaurant in Chinatown. Finding a table for one is always a challenge, so I was cloistered in the corner away from the big parties with a humongous menu that took a while to peruse. They basically serve everything you would expect from a Chinese restaurant including Egg Foo Young and Congee. However, I had my eye out for the one elusive dish that I am beginning to see more of in the area, steamed chicken. Hunan Homes makes a good one. But they’re often crowded with tour bus groups, so I was looking for alternatives. On the menu, I saw«Chicken with Ginger Onion Sauce», a half one for $ 8.95. Could it be? I interrogated the harried waitress who nodded her head in response to my question about whether the chicken was steamed or not. Out it came, and much to my delight, it was a heaping plate of steamed chicken doused with soy sauce, covered with shredded green onions and with minced ginger and garlic on the side(photo: ). It really hit the spot with the white meat not remotely dry, the dark meat quite moist and the skin not too rubbery. I was not as big a fan of their $ 6.95 Potstickers. No complaints about the portion as the order is a half-dozen extra large ones(photo: ). However, I found the wrappers just way too thick and chewy for my taste. I liked the chicken enough to come back with Jamie W. a couple of months later, and in addition to my chicken dish, we ordered the $ 9.95 General’s Chicken, which he deemed as good as the one served at Red Jade, high praise indeed for such a saucy creation(photo: ). We also tried the $ 8.95 Fried Calamari, which came in a heaping pile, very hot from the fryer, and pretty tasty(photo: ). It wasn’t too chewy though we really didn’t need the little puddle of cherry sauce which is apparently de rigeur for this dish. Cleanliness may not be close to godliness at this Chinatown basement operation, but I may take my chances again with that steamed chicken when I feel a hankering. FOOD — 3 stars… despite excellent steamed chicken, I do have to ding them a star for the health inspection score… and those chewy potsticker wrappers, too AMBIANCE — 2.5 stars… well, it’s a basement SERVICE — 3.5 stars… actually quite nice once you get into their view TOTAL — 3 stars… please improve your score so I can feel secure about the quality of that steamed chicken

We wanted good, inexpensive, and quick Chinese food in a casual setting. We found this place off Unilocal and it was just what we were looking for. Portions are even larger than expected. Their spicy food is SPICY, so be careful. No wait to sit. Menu is also in English and some of the ladies know English better than others. I wish we had a fridge and microwave in our hotel room so we could take the leftovers. Really great experience — will come back next time we visit.

Great food! Visiting from out of town and wanted an «authentic» Chinatown feel with amazing food… well that’s what we got! Great atmosphere… seemed like tons of locals. Food– exactly what we hoped for. The Egg Drop soup was amazing– much different than we are used to. It was more like a combination of the egg drop soup I’m used to but with veggies and a lighter broth. Potstickers were okay… probably the one thing I wasn’t super impressed with. However the Lemon Chicken was the best I’ve ever had and the Mongolian beef was spectacular. Also we got chicken fried rice which was excellent. Service– not bad. The service was very«matter of fact»…basically the waiters didn’t BS with you but were always making sure the consumers had what they needed. Overall– highly recommend!

One of our favorite places in China Town… this is the only place that makes authentic beef broccoli! Reminds so much of my childhood in China Town Manila. Beef Broccoli– cooked with ginger and not too much soy sauce. Beef is tender! Salt and Pepper Chops — Crispy, not too salty and perfectly spiced. Walnut Prawns — Yum! Curry chicken clay pot– perfectly spiced! Good portion serving and good for families! Place is small and it can get crowded.

For authentic Chinese food, you’ve gotta try this place out. Not fancy, but the food definitely makes up for that. Not to mention, the portions are huge, so you’re not gonna leave hungry. I’d highly recommend this place for great Chinese food in San Francisco.

What a great place for the best Chinese food. The looks of the place is nothing fancy and it will probably have some turn away. If you truly want great foo then eat here! The only thing I would ask for is better restroom facilities and that is the only reason I rated this 4 stars but rest assure the food is nothing but 5 stars! We will be back the next time we are in San Francisco.

This place is totally A-OK! The food is pretty yummy, the prices are pretty reasonable, the service is pretty friendly and quick, and the interior looks like a takeout place with tons of room and nicer chairs. We wandered in for a snack while exploring Chinatown and split some shrimp chow mein. It was definitely tasty but fell short of spectacular. The tea was nice and we left full.

This is my first review, but when a place this good comes along, you just have to. My friend and I are road tripping across the west and stumbled upon this place. The ambience is decent and definitely feels authentically Chinese. Walk down some stairs to get in and be greeted instantly. We came for lunch both times, so it may be busier at other times. Free jasmine tea was great. And the appetizers(especially the egg rolls and pot stickers) were cooked homemade. The entrees were terrific as well. The sweet and sour chicken was heavy on the sauce and a bit light on the chicken, but still very delicious. My only complaints: they don’t do special orders and the bathrooms were dirty and reeked. Get past that and you’re in for a treat!

«A person needs new experiences. They jar something deep inside, allowing you to grow. Without them, it sleeps– seldom to awaken. The sleeper must awaken. « Frank Herbert Interesting place. Reminded me of my college days and the trips to TJ with the guys on the street beckoning you to walk down to the basement for 5 beers for $ 5 but here there is just a sign… Relatives wanted to meet here for dinner so I enter. I ordered my old faithful char sui pan fried noodles. The char sui was excellent as was the sauce and bok choy. The egg noodles were good but not great. The blend of flavors I found to be very good. I prefer the egg noodles at Great Eastern. The fried pork chops were also very good. The flavor was very good to excellent but the one thing that I didn’t like was there was too much fat. It was chewy and I didn’t want to swallow but I was with the relatives so I didn’t want everyone watching me spit it out… The soy sauce chicken was awesome! The chicken was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy, and filled with just the right amount of soy sauce flavor. Never eaten soy sauce chicken this good in San Diego… The chinese sausage over rice was excellent. I’m curious where they get their chinese sausage at as it had this amazing flavor and texture which made me feel guilty for eating all the crappy supermarket chinese sausage over the years… The broccoli was excellent. It appeared steamed or stir fried but tasted perfect. I try making broccoli all the time but it taste a bit bland or too much soy sauce, or starchy, or gingery, or something. If I could make broccoli this good I could go vegetarian. To conclude this place looks like a hole in the wall but the food is very good to great and the prices are good.
