Small coffee shop with a quite vibe, no hipsters or techies in site. Not very crowded & plenty of seating. great, low key location. No fiends doing the zombie dance outside, always nice. Metered Parking can be found easily. I had the Mexican mocha and it was really good. 16oz is the biggest size the offer, whereas I enjoy 20oz coffees, but that’s no big deal.

Always good service from the staff here, esp. Tony. And absolutely love their coffee. Always my go-to for coffee on my breaks from work.

I came here on a Monday morning while waiting for my tires to be rotated at Costco. I don’t know how this place has such a high rating. No wi-fi!!! Actually, they have wi-fi but it’s «only for their office». Atmosphere is more like a fast food restaurant than a coffee shop and the clientele seems to be exclusively old single semi-homeless looking men. Lots of noise pollution from machinery in the back combined with annoying girly pop music. The guy at the counter was at least trying, but was basically just awkward and not knowledgeable enough about the menu to be helpful. The pastries were wrapped in tons of plastic. Ick. I had a zucchini muffin that was sort of edible but soggy. Maybe the coffee is ok if you get it to go, but as a coffee shop, this place doesn’t cut it. I definitely won’t be back.

Love their dark french roast and the fact that the company has been roasting beans since 1963. I’m no fan of the lighter coffee roasters such as Ritual, no disrespect, but I love, love my Capricorn coffee! The coffee shop is a bit spare, and I’d like to help them with their marketing, but I’ll start with this review. And my coffee is $ 8.25 per pound.

Been a customer for years and even though we no longer live in neighborhood, we make a special trip to Soma to keep supporting Capricorn. Tony is especially friendly!

Friendly service, simple treats, great coffee. Home brewed coffee and great tea. It’s a good ol’ coffee shop — nothing fancy, but that’s what is great about it!!! Keep it simple… and tasty!

My husband loves this coffee spot. They brew and make their own coffee beans. Their coffee is strong and aromatic. I like the chai latte, it doesn’t taste like bitter Earl grey tea like other chai latte. We live all the way in Rocklin and yet we only brew Capricorn coffee at home. Hub stocks up on it when he’s in sf. The service is also great. Everyone is nice.

Coffee is great and you can see them distributing the beans through the windows. but there is a $ 5 minimum and no wifi! Food options are standard for a coffee shop. Pastries and bagels. Nothing fancy.

I’ve slowly turned into a regular at this lovely establishment. Unlike starbucks if you’re unsure of what you want their barista won’t give out a blank yet impatient stare. They will gladly give you recommendations and almost everyone they give really GOOD suggestions. places like this make me really love my city more and more. they first their own coffee on location and have a nice selection of teas as well. If you’re ever in the SoMa area please stop by. this place is a definite must try. KEEPUPTHEGOODWORKGUYS!

Quick and super friendly service. I don’t drink coffee but the chia latte was good. I will for sure come back when I’m in the area. FYI this place is a little hidden behind trees, if it wasn’t for the neon open sign I would have passed it a second time.

When I reviewed Capricorn over 4 years ago, I had been their loyal customer since they had first opened in the 1970’s. A few months ago, their prices started to climb and they are now as high as their competitors. Fortunately, friends introduced me the Trader Joe Coffee and the«San Francisco» brand at COSTCO and found them both superb, at less than half the price. Bye Capricorn!

4 ½ stars? Really? What am I missing? I had the cappuccino here and it was mediocre at best. The barista was nice, but nothing about his service or disposition stood out as anything remarkable. It was $ 3.50 for my capp and I have had better throughout the city. The space and atmosphere was simply average. I was left so underwhelmed, that is all I can really think to say. Not great, not awful, just… there.

Waiting for my car to get worked on, I walked over to Capricorn for a breakfast coffee. This place doesn’t have a fancy entrance so I had to get real close to find it. Walking in I noticed two things, first there was a bit of a line. Secondly, it’s seems to be a roaster with a small dining area. Got a great cup of coffee and hot ham and cheese croissant. The coffee was dark, rich and hit the spot. They also sell beans and grounds by the pound. Parking is tough on the streets.

I would have never known this place existed if it wasn’t for a certain«dark» co-worker that loves his coffee like he lives his life. In total darkness. He brought in a bag of their extra dark French roast. I thought it was«ok» but not worth $ 15 a pound… A recent experience left us with nothing but Folgers«French Roast» in the cupboard *puke* Never again! Never Again! So I check online and find it’s only $ 10.25 for Fair Trade Organic French Roast! Seriously? That’s about as much as you can get stale Peet’s and Starbucks from Safeway since they usually come in smaller 12oz bags. It’s also considerably cheaper than what the new coffee houses Ritual, Four Barrel, etc. are charging. Is the taste on the same level? No, not quite. It’s more than serviceable for the price. I will continue to try new roasts here until I find the one I like most. Right now the Dark Sumatra $ 13/lb is hitting the spot. I’ve driven by here on 10th st without even knowing it exists. Super nondescript location! The interior of this place is nothing fancy at all. While they have tables and chairs, and even sell pastries, it screams FACTORY rather than coffee shop. They have a glass partition where you can watch the workers packing freshly roasted beans into huge trashcans. It’s not a hip place on Valencia but maybe that’s why I like it so much. Another reason to appreciate it is the employees here are excellent. No aloof hipsters in sight… After our recent purchase the cashier told us to help ourselves to a few cups of joe while we waited for our brew to be ground and packaged. Of course we had to take him up on that offer! While I don’t have a need for this place for home use as I am a recent Nespresso convert it makes an excellent and economical coffee for use at work. Since I like to start my work day with a delicious cup of coffee and some computer work *cough* Unilocal *cough* Capricorn helps me do this at a reasonable cost.

I feel like a 2 star rating is too low and 3 seems too easy to achieve. I can’t say that I’ve tasted their black coffee — as all of the previous reviews state that they do serve a mean Cup-O-Joe. **So I partook of the White Mocha this morning and since I’m not much of a black coffee kind of guy I’m basing my judgement off of this not-so-fancy drink.** Having just opened I didn’t expect this place to be bustling with customers, although if that were to have happened then I know I’m surely missing out. I was greeted outside the front door by the owner(assuming)/head barista. He seemed like a straight-forward but friendly individual. I asked for a White Mocha and the coffee was delivered in less than 30 seconds. I can either assume(again, I know) that this was a pre-made gig or that he’s just that good at what he does. Either way I grabbed the coffee and went on my way. First sip was surprisingly good. Not too sweet, but not too savory either. The second taste reminded me of something I couldn’t put my tongue on… no pun intended. That’s it! Have you ever had one of those Carnation hot chocolate packages and mixed it with coffee? Well if you’re ever traveling and want something a little more tasty I highly recommend it. BUT if you are paying close to $ 4 for a drink I’d say put your money away and try something different. The atmosphere is slightly underwhelming and reminiscent of an auto shop foyer where you wait for your car to be detailed while strange scents of corroborator fluid and oil fill the air. At least it was sweet scents of coffee, but the décor could use a face-lift.

Love this place. Non-pretentious, small, local business. Great product. I pick up a pound of the Dark French every couple of weeks. They usually have a coffee of the day so gives you a opportunity to try something different. You get a cup of coffee with every pound. And get this, the pound is actually 16 oz(at the very least) instead on the 8 oz and 12’s that will cost you more anywhere else. Service is always friendly.

By far THE best Dark roast French bean in the City! Beats Blue Bottle, Ritual, 4 Barrel and Peets at a FRACTION of the price(even after an increase!). If you want a reminder of what Artisan blending and roasting should always be like, go HERE! Hiding in plain sight, they’ve be flying under the radar for too long!(not helped by some competitors spreading rumors that they’ve gone under!)

O my word! A colleague had tipped me off about Capricorn a long time ago, but I haven’t worked thru my collection of «alright» coffee beans to justify adding yet another bag of beans to my cupboard. At first, I thought maybe this is just their factory or office(it’s located at a pretty random location)…but, you can walk in and get your caffeine fix and pastries! This was a great opportunity to try it, before commiting myself =). At first sip, whooooeey! This is good stuff! If you like the deep, strong, bold coffee, Capricorn is right up your alley! Grab a cup of joe, if you love it, buy a bag! But If you can’t make it out here, I think some random grocery stores(Good Life is one) do also carry it. Just an FYI, while enjoying my coffee, I did see someone from Turtle Tower pick up a few boxed orders… so this is where their coffee comes from. Hmmm… Move on over Starbucks, make room for Capricorn!
