Excellent panini (#1). Splurged for a milkshake. Real ice cream. Really good. Casual comfortable spot.

Good café, a nice alternative to the all the «froufrou» eateries around. I got a toasted turkey panini (#1) and it was warm, tasty and satisfying.

First and last experience. Roast Beef Sandwich on sliced Wheat, very common everyday sandwich. Nothing special. They only do cash and Debit cards and charge 69 cents for the privledge. Really no need to go back

Very nice place. Casual. You place your order at the counter. I ordered a delicious tuna-​stuffed avocado/​salad. Fresh greens, nice presentation. The guy who delivered it to me at my table was especially pleasant. I learned he was the owner. I’ll be back!

I haven’t actually been here but I just discovered that this is one of the places where Ross Ulbricht (Dread Pirate Roberts) would work on his laptop and run Silk Road. I thought that was interesting enough to post. Might not be a bad idea for management to leverage this and turn it into a Mecca of sorts to online privacy advocates and libertarianism.

The owner does not understand customer service and community investment. Menu wise, there is nothing special about this place. But when you are made to feel uncomfortable by a jerk of an owner, there is no point in giving him money. His employee at the register was afraid if him, and I walked out in a huffy. Go elsewhere and enjoy spending time and money there.

I will never go back to this place! Rude, rude, rude is the owner and I must say, there is no customer service here, only nasty looks, bad service and an attitude that needs adjustment. Went in for a drink and his disappointment that I wasn’t buying «food» was evident. Who needs this treatment when I can go somewhere else!

All the food I have tried here has been excellent. I really enjoy the sub sandwiches. But my favorite thing here is the mocha frappé. If you are someone who loves their coffee to taste more like a chocolate shake than coffee like I do, than this is for you! It’s hard not to drink the whole thing before my food arrives.

GROSS!!! My neighbor and I went in to have a coffee… we sat down after getting our coffee and noticed the owner (male) sit down at his computer right near us. He started picking his nose… can you believe it!!! and then scratching his head with those filthy hands!!! We were totally repulsed. A customer then came in, he got up, made him a coffee, took his money and never washed his hands! Next customer came in, ordered a coffee, he put the lid on with his filthy hands, took her money and again never washed his hands. Thanks goodness no one ordered a sandwich that he had to make with his gross dirty hands!!! We ran out of there totally repulsed! DO NOT GO HERE!!! We have reported him to the SF Public Health Department for investigation…

Serves me right for not reading the reviews first. Deplorable, awful, despicable customer service. I will never go here again, even if they were giving food away for free. I very rarely write a review, so something has to be seriously wrong or absolutely amazing to motivate me to do it. This is one of those cases.
The owners (I am guessing) got our order wrong, charged us double, blamed us for the error, and refused to fix the problem. We left without eating the food or getting the situation remedied (i.e., the right food or a refund). We will never go there again. It is a shame too as we live a few blocks away and it would have been convenient to have a good place nearby. It would have been an inexpensive, easy fix for them, but they chose to burn another potential repeat customer.
Mistakes happen. It is what you do after the fact that defines you. These people are clueless. I can only hope that they go out of business and that someone who can run a restaurant /​café well takes over the location.

The Unilocal reviews made me nervous, so I stuck with basics – grilled cheese on rye with a side of avocado. I added the avocado to the grilled cheese myself to ensure that the avocado was not grilled with the sandwich.
The grilled cheese was delicious and the avocado was just slightly under ripe, but still tasty. They have a nice selection of bottles sodas.
Service is quick, but don’t expect a smile.

Excellent chicken salad sandwich — toasted even! Smallish café with delightful interior. Bay window seating was full though. Will have to catch that next time.

Really good bagels (last time I checked they get them from House of Bagels), prepared the way you like them. Excellently prepared espresso drinks.
CLOSED SUNDAYS — hard to believe since they would do so much coffee business if they were open in the the early morning or on Sundays.
As other posters have mentioned, the male owner can be pretty moody/​surly.

I like to go to this place every couple months to remind myself why I don’t go to this place. It’s so convenient for me, right around the corner, but I’d be better off walking to Filmore for coffee and breakfast. This morning I was greeted with a friendly, «yeah?» Perhaps the waitstaff hadn’t had their coffee yet so I went ahead and ordered mine. Blah. Bitter. Shame on me and my short term memory. I’ll be doing my best to avoid this place in the future.

Went in here for lunch today. I was greeted with a smile and both people behind the counter seemed friendly. I ordered a panini and it was hot and fresh and tasty! My chai was also perfect! I’d gladly return for lunch again.

I desperately wish that someone would take over this space-​we need a decent coffeehouse/​shop and someone could do it, I feel confident. All they would have to do to make it better than the current owners is:
1. smile and be remotely pleasant
2. not run out of pastries and desserts before noon
3. might be nice to open on Sundays?
4. did I mention, be the least bit pleasant?
5. not grimace and say no when asked for a cup with ice for the bottled beverage I just purchased? Really??? They charged me 75 cents for the cup and ice. That was the final straw. I go there because it’s convenient, but, yeah, that’s over. Eunice’s across the street isn’t any great shakes, but they are completely friendly and pleasant and appreciate the business. Luna? Me thinks not.

It’s mom and pop, but pop wasn’t super friendly. I had an ok ham sandwich here, but it was unremarkable (as expected from the reviews, but I was starving). It’s too bad there aren’t any great cafes or sandwich spots on Sacramento, definitely a business opportunity there… for now Fillmore St gets my vote.

We came here for brunch at around 3 pm last Saturday (yes, brunch at 3 pm) and were disappointed to discover that the bottomless mimosas stopped at 3pm. Major fail — but on our part. So I decided to get the smoothie (spiked) instead and my friend decided to go for the 2-​for-​1 bloody marys. The server came by to take our order and immediately said, «we are out of smoothies». Boo! Major fail — on their part this time. They lost a star for this. I mean, how do you run out of smoothies?
I got the mojito instead (kind of a strange afternoon choice but I didn’t have many options left) and ordered the chicken sandwich with fries. It was a good sandwich, quite satisfying, and came with a giant plate of fries which were also quite good (be careful, you may end up eating them all like I did).
A solid choice, but nothing spectacular.
