Saw them perform at Matthew Briar and the Age of Resurrection. My favorite is the British(?) tuba player, but they were all fantastic. They tied together the entire event and kept it moving at a perfect pace. They even lent an antique piece to the set design! I’m thinking I might even have them play at my wedding. Yeah. They’re that good.

My friends hired the Brass Band Mission for their wedding. Their wedding!?! Whoever heard of a brass band at a wedding? These guys were amazing! They led the wedding procession to a bus, PLAYEDONTHEBUS, and played the wedding march for the bride at the outdoor ceremony at Battery Mendell. They were skillful, fun, and great sports. I couldn’t imagine a wedding with a brass band before yesterday. Now, I can’t imagine a wedding without one.

Disclosure: I am considered official entourage for Brass Band Mission, but I don’t get a cut from the band’s earnings. I dance and help busk out with the band because I love the music and the musicians who make it happen and I want them to be successful. New Orleans style jazz is one of a kind and I love to dance in the streets to Brass Band Mission with my umbrella making folks dance with me. I let the kids hold my umbrella and watch them light up. I like to see people peep out of their condos and apartments and smile as we pass by or even join in unexpectedly! When Brass Band Mission plays out in the streets, the second line is open to all. No velvet rope, no cover, no hand stamp… you just join the party! FREEFUN! It’s the best thing in the world to see everyone, all socio-economic levels, every ethnicity, young and old enjoying the music and dancing it up with the band! In this current techie world taking over SF, where people stare at their iphones and have their earbuds in all the time, not engaging with their neighbors, it’s so nice to draw people out of that place and back into their bodies. You can’t miss the sound of the bass drum and the sousaphone coming down the street, then the bari, the bones and the horns come into earshot! Then you see my umbrella and you might want to take our picture or shoot a video, but it’s a mobile party! Put your phone away, drop what you are doing, and join the party!!! Make a move, move your body, and go see Brass Band Mission or hire them to pump up your event or party! They bring an amazing sound that’s straight out of New Orleans, but somewhat new to San Francisco life. Step out of your techie world and dance to the beat! Dance people! Dance!

I saw these guys perform at Brick and Mortar for a Mardis Gras celebration and they tore the place up. Not only were the band members shakin’ it on stage and obviously having a great time, their music was fantastic. Definitely a must see Brass band here in San Francisco…
