Epitome of «Ghetto Gourmet»: Buying pies from the TRUNK of a car. Oh, we fancy huh? Co-worker: «Did you try the pie yet? Me: «What pie?» Co-worker: «You have to try THE pie…» Me(Fatass): *cuts a chunk and shoves into mouth*: «MmMmm, what is this – sweet potato pie?» Co-worker: «White Navy Bean Pie.» Me *shocked*: «WHITEBEAN… MmMm, it’s good, did you bake it?» Co-Worker: «No, we bought it from the back of someone’s trunk outside.» Me: *looks outside the window* #$#!&#$&^%!!! Me: *paranoid*: Is it safe? Have you bought one before? Co-Worker: «Yup, all the time…» Me: *PHEW* Ok, so I know what you’re thinking but some of the BEST foods are from hole-in-the-walls right? And, even though these pies come don’t come from a hole-in-the-wall«establishment», they come from something that can be considered a kitchen on wheels aka a food«car»? :X One of my co-workers who works at the building that oversees the Fillmore Shopping Plaza(Safeway and Popeyes), told me this Black Muslim man whom I will call the«Bowtie Pie Man» because he wears a Black Bowtie, sells his White Navy Bean Pie daily in the afternoon in front of Popeye’s. I was also told the White Navy Bean Pie along with the hot plates he periodically sells are Halal which is free from intoxicants and any animals improperly slaughtered. One sliver of the pie which had a buttery, flakey crust with a firm creamy filling most similar to a sweet potato or pumpkin pie(but less sweet) was good enough for me to buy one to bring home. And, for just $ 3, it’s enough to feed 2 – 3 people and satisfy your sweet tooth. These satisfyingly scrumptious pies are a MUST try! DON’T BESCURRED…
