Support this book store. It is a local store run by people who are awesome. The owners support Jazz and have shows there weekly. They allow a space for beautiful music and creative artists. Buys some books for your self and your kids. Keep this business alive because it is the stuff SF was made of and we need it here.

This place is everything a person could want in a local bookstore. They host jazz music on weekends, as a service to the community. Their selection is very good. The layout of the store is very warm and inviting, as are the staff. Highly recommend.

Such a wonderfully warm and hidden little jewel of Glen Park. I step inside and instantly fall in love with the smell of books and tha quaint feel of the shop. I have come here on and off for over a decade. I always walk away with something new to try to read as well as a smile. The owner is very friendly. If you have time, take a moment to explore here and find why bookstores are still magical and filled with do many stories to inspire the mind.

This bookstore is a real gem! Our oldest child grew up here. He loves Erick! Unfortunately we had to move to another neighborhood 5 years ago, but always love to go back here. Whenever my wife and I go out on a date, we like to stop by for the jazz!!! Great bands, cozy environment, affordable, good company. We love Bird and Beckett Books!

This neighborhood is a place to spend a few hours, enjoying lunch or dinner, picking up some treats to take home and(most of all) enjoying the diversity of books at this terrific, small, independently owned bookstore. The owner, Eric, is the kindest man and will make you feel right at home. This may become your go-to bookstore for all your reading desires!

Bookstores these days are under a lot of pressure. However, in the age of Amazon, Bird & Beckett has found a formula that gets me off the Internet and into the store. The stacks here beckon, displaying an excellently curated selection of books. This makes browsing a pleasure and I usually end up buying at least two to three more books than I originally planned. Unlike many upscale book retailers, they have a fantastic classic area where one can find excellent used books at bargain prices. If the books weren’t enough, Bird & Beckett hosts a variety of events, such as intimate jazz concerts, poetry readings, and book clubs. These events are generally worthwhile and the owner makes sure the guests are always interesting. B&B is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood and provides an unmissable atmosphere where the enjoyment of books is not limited to being a solitary activity.

I never bought a book here until today. Super helpful, friendly, and on top of their stuff. The other times I’ve been here, they let me browse all their books and never said a thing about it, unless it was to help me. Brownie points for being locally owned. =) For a bookstore, what more can I ask of them?

La-la love Bird & Beckett. Love their selection, and I’ve gotten great deals on used books. Love going to their readings and I check out their weekly jazz showcases when I can! I’ve used the word«love» more than thrice in this post. A hidden gem, and a book shop I’d like to keep alive when there are so few left in this city.

Cozy little bookstore. Every time I’ve been here, I’ve always been unable to resist getting a book as a gift for someone else! They carry some beautiful local based items… I had to get this great photograph book of SF, called Lost San Francisco, which had lots of historical facts to go with the gorgeous black and white photos. I’ve also bought the Sandy Koufax children’s baseball book for my former boss– to read to his grandkids. The author also has one for Willie Mays(but my former boss is a Dodgers fan!) *ducks It was a gift! It’s a very small bookstore crammed with wonderful books. So if you’re not in a hurry, take time to look around. And if you are in a hurry, then give the title and author to the clerk and s/he will grab it for you. And they go gift wrapping for free. It’s always perfect and worth the wait!!! Prices= varies. Depends on what you want. For myself, I bought a used book for $ 14.00, instead of spending $ 22.00 on it. I’m in the middle of reading Snow Hunters. Great so far… They also have a few events – poetry readings, writer’s visits, etc… Check the calendar! Go explore!

I love bookstores and I had never stopped by this one in Glen Park. My friend said he knew somebody who was reading a poem for their open mic night, so I decided to make a trip. However, the open mic night schedule changed and we missed out. I checked out the bookstore and it seemed to have a decent offering, but there’s far better bookstores in San Francisco like City Lights and The Booksmith. Still it’s nice that it is offered to the public in Glen Park.

Wonderful selection in this tiny shoebox of a bookstore in the quaint part of Glen Park! From children’s books to a Noam Chomsky book on Gaza, this place has variety and taste in an enjoyable, curated selection of good books to read. Bonus points for fun birthday cards and wacky postcards.

Borders and Barnes & Nobles came along years ago and shutdown so many small booksellers. Then Amazon came along and undercut those big box stores and put most of them out of business. But where are the little guys? The small store where the owner stops and talks to you about what you like to read. Where you walk in and are not a customer but a friend? Bird & Beckett is that store and I am happy to see it survives. I don’t live nearby so I try to pop in when I’m in town visiting friends. As I am always glad I do.

oh man, B&B books, where to start?! This place is an SF community gem if ever there was one. I frequent many, many bookstores in SF and this place is tops. Its smaller but the selection of books is top notch. Read next paragraph for the selection or skip on for more details: They have an amazing poetry selection with the likes of Michelle Tea, unique Ginsberg collections and more. They have a kickass black history section(histories of jazz, autobiography of nina simone, etc), and the philosophy section has a wide range from Descartes to Plato to rare existentionalist find from the 60s(not just the same reprints youve seen). They have an awesome graphic novel section with Far Side collections, Calvin & Hobbes, and really cool postmodern japanese manga inspired stuff. The kids books are all really cool too and that have new gems like«I Could Pee On This: Poems by Cats» that are a good laugh. and of course THELIVEMUSIC!!! Every and yes I mean EVERY Friday and Sunday is some kind of jazz, poetry, or other musical mix– Ive seen everything from blue grass to ragtime to chinese play readings(translating over skype from shanghai!) This place is a watering hole for all sorts of talent. Best of all, theres no cover but donations are highly encouraged(always with a dose of good humor). Used bookstores are always struggling though so they do fundraisers now and then. Really though, I dont know how people could give this place less than 5 stars. After Adobe Books got shut down on 16th, theres no place that can compare to the vibrant community and choice selection and homliness of B&B. Even Barnes and Nobles nowadays removes a lot of their furniture and resort to a lot of coffee peddling. and Amazon isnt going anywhere… so if you want a real bookstore these are the last great gems. Lets treasure and support them while they are here.

The store was clean, well-organized and filled with a hell lot of books. Took me a decent hour to immerse myself with all their selection. I was excited that they had a lot of books written by Orson Scott Card. Walked out with a purchase and intentions of coming back.

!!! My roomie and I were parking on this street on our way back from Twin Peaks to stop at Canyon Market and I saw the illuminated sign«BOOKS». We ran in and womp… TIMEWARP… one hour later we emerged dazed, I had about 8 new(used) books under my arm, and a deep feeling of contentment and enchantment. This Saturday 10⁄26 they are having a jazz and drinks and books party to raise money to keep paying the rent — –see you there!!!

This place is amazingly amazing. I had been looking for a semi rare book that was no longer in production and they called around for me at other book stores and reserved it for me. Hands down great staff and business. I will definitely be recommending people go here. Thank you!

This bookstore just took over the Bernal library’s old location. Kind of smart for those looking for books and not keeping up to date that the library moved around the corner on Diamond Street. This place didn’t even really bother to remodel much. They just removed all the marks that SFPL had not taken with them and used all the bookshelf that they left behind.

LOVE this bookstore. Community gem, all the way. Walked in after having coffee down the street to live stage poetry reading,(Nicholas Karavatos), with guitar backup. Took a seat and stayed while political musings and life lessons learn and put into prose. Fantastic afternoon! I’ll be back and will be bringing friends. Website has listings of coming events. Great business, I’m a huge fan!
