Right now this store is aimed squarely at the Chinese tourist market. Front rack DVD’s include chinese language –mandarin mostly, but also Cantonese– not only photo tours of san francisco but also of various chinese mainland vacation destinations. There is also a collection of china military dvd’s. Assuming that’s not your thing, they have a decent stock of various art photo items including an wide array of 3-D art photo things. These change form as you turn your head and include religious icons like the last supper, various catholic saints, the virgin mary, quan yin, etc. Also included in the 3D section(discretely away on less visible shelves) are some titillating people posing and as you turn your heads the clothes almost but not quite fall away. Dorm room stuff I suppose. Not the worst shop for mandarin/Cantonese movies but the best thing is ye olde chinatown oddites-such as a 3D pic of the last supper. It’s only a matter of time before they get one of dogs playing poker.

4 years later: — The basement level where they used to sell all sorts of pornographic DVD(and other random DVD crap that nobody spent money on) is gone. Basically the stairway leading down to the basement has been sealed off and looked like it never existed. So who knows what is down there now. Maybe those village skeeves from Toishan from 3 years ago who wanted a peak at the pornos failed to find their way out of the store and got stuck browsing the crap down there and forgot to come up for air and are buried with the goods? — The store that used to have two sections, has downsized to one. The right side of the section has turned into an electronics applicance store, selling random crap from the country that is prolific at mass producing cheap crap in an effort to bring down our economy. — The bulk of the business a few years ago, aka Hong Kong imported original DVD movies, has completed shifted now towards made in China DVDs(soaps, concerts, dramas) — The business has somewhat rebranded to do a mixture of things, mostly made in China. iPhone 3rd party cases, accessories, and some home audio components that quite frankly, only someone from Mainland China might be interested. — On the outside of the store are these pretty interesting hard plastic images of color drawings/paintings that are 3D. If you shift your view of the picture to another side, another image appears. Such 3D poster pictures(frame not included) range from Jesus Christ, Chaiman Mao, pandas, Bruce Lee, San Francisco, to other random scenery are available in the teen$ to $ 20s. Strangely enough, this is probably the most interesting part of the store…

They have some new releases on the top floor, CDs next door, and other stuff downstairs. I have to give it to them … their movies and CDs are very well organized compared to other stores in Chinatown. The CDs are sorted by artist and the movies are sorted by leading actors in the movie. However, their movies are more expensive compared to other stores in Chinatown.

Sure they’ve got the selection. But they’re also in an unconvenient location with horrible parking(for me). The employees are also mean to me. They follow me around like i’m going to steal something and when I do ask a question, they yell at me in Chinese to read the back of the dvd. UHM, I told you, I’M ANABCTHATCAN’T READCHINESECHARACTERS!!! They’re only nice to me if my mom is around. just because she speaks Canto AND Mandarin so they can’t fool her.
