What you see/ Is what you get. So the song says, and it’s very true at Asia Chinese Food. Perhaps one of the best meals served on the first floor of a 7-story parking garage. It’s silly to expect more than a lunch counter. They are busy enough to have mostly fresh food all day long. When in the neighborhood and looking for a quick bite, this will work just fine. Alas: The ice cream option took a dive when they stopped selling Mitchell’s. The pretender brand replacing SF’s premier ice cream is a sad story.

I’m a regular here. I love love love the adobo and veggies. The eggplant is good too. yes, the best customer service here. Next time you’re shopping at Westfield, cross the street to Asia. Forget Panda Express. Asia has way better food. and they also offer hawaiian barbecue, boba drinks and ice cream too. yum!

Chicken katsu? Bland. Mac salad? Bland. Water? Bland. OK, maybe it’s not fair that I said the water was bland, but the fact that I had to put soy sauce on top of the katsu sauce to make it taste better should tell you something. If I happen to come here again, I’ll definitely try something else.

I came here famished after the first day of Wondercon and literally inhaled my seafood dish. While I can’t speak for the pre-made dishes in the metal pans, I can say that the freshly cooked seafood over crunched up noodles was absolutely divine. The ruffly fresh shrimp dissolved in my mouth, chased by scallops, onion, mushroom, and the sumptuosly sauced up noodles. Mmmmm! Worth every penny of the $ 9 I paid for it. They even brought it right to my seat… My husband went with the two items for $ 5 and thoroughly enjoyed his meal as well. We split a Coke to round things out. I would say that this food saved my life right then – if not, I would have passed out before reaching the BART station. Bless you, Asia Chinese food…

For $ 4.99, you get so much rice and pork adobo(which was tender and flavorful… sauce was good) to satiate your hanger for comfort food after a hard day at work. They serve it up cafeteria style… Unlike me, they are fast and cheap. They also serve up glorious avocado shakes, with REAL avocado and Mitchell’s avocado ice cream. I personally love all that creamy avocado shake that I slurped through that big fat straw… but… as much as I like chewy balls in my mouth, I actually preferred getting more avocado goodness for my money. I recommend skipping out on getting the tapioca balls since those just take up room. And as my friend Luis( ) added, «it’s not often that things are better sans balls…» This is a useful review. I thank you. *curtsies*

I could just tell that the ice cream would be delicious when even on a chilly, winter evening hordes of people were lining up, waiting to satisfy their sweet tooth. The overwhelming selection of ice cream flavors is sure to leave anyone struggling to pick just one(why not have two then, right?) They range from exotic fruit to the classics, and there truly is something for every palate. When I saw someone else order it in front of me, I knew I HAD to have the ube(purple yam) ice cream in a waffle cone. It was delicious, and I left completely satisifed. What else could you want?

Sorry Mitchelle’s baby… I’ll always love you. But today I have to dump you for… BIRITECREAMERY. But I’ll use you as my second fiddle when I need it really bad…(god that sounds kinda risqué… doesn’t it?) This ice cream spot is a happenin place. It’s off San Jose Avenue, Across the street from the Safeway on Mission and 30th. The ice cream here is mouthwatering, creamy and delicious. Flavors to try: Avocado — Think of green Vanilla. I don’t like avocado at all. But in ice cream form, it’s absolutely marvelous. Come on people, if you like carrot cake, then you have to try their avocado. Ask for a sample. Ube — Think of a coconutty, vanilla tasting purple colored ice cream. An ube is like a large filipino purple yam. But when they make this into ice cream, it’s marvelous. Trust me. Buko — Baby coconut pieces enveloped in a rich, creamy soft smooth coconut ice cream They only accept cash. But they installed an ATM machine… so bring your atm card or bring straight cash. Credit card is not an option. The lines here are crazy, so be prepared to wait at peak times during the day.

Best Ice Cream in SF! I love this place, the ice cream is quality and they have tons of funky flavors to try: purple yam, avacado, wasabi… good times. The still represent all the classics and everyone leaves happy. Great spot for birthday cakes!

I went here one day to get some Mitchell’s ice cream. I rang the bell and waited for someone to help me. No one ever came. I rang the bell again and waited and still… no one came. I rang the bell more furiously, and finally went around the corner to where they serve the food to try to get someone’s attention. I finally caught one of the cashier’s attention and told her that I’ve been waiting forever for someone to take my ice cream order. The effing biatch had the nerve to tell me «We’re too busy right now!» Eff you Asia Chinese Food and eff you Mitchell’s for selling your ice cream here!

MMMmmmmmm! I’ve been having Mitchell’s Ice Cream since I was born… they truly make the best filipino ice cream in the world… and yes it tops Magnolia in the Philippines. Absoultely 5 stars for their UBE LANGKA HALO– HALO ice cream and that is just to name a few of their tropical flavors… If I only had a big enough freezer to store all the great flavors! Its worth the drive.

If ice cream and soft serve had sex and made a baby, the result would be Mitchells. Kind of like cold stone’s consistency(super creamy), but it has much better flavor. There is a free parking lot behind the shop!!!, the place is super cute, the ice cream is pretty cheap, and they give generous samples of both their normal and crazy flavors.

I LOVE Mitchell’s ice cream because its all that ice cream should be — smooth, rich, ultra-creamy, and full of flavor. I’m also loving the«exotic» flavors — their mango, lychee, macapuno, and ube flavors are stupendous and the best I’ve ever had. This location is a little strange — its hard to figure out whether they are a part of the Asian restaurant or a separate entity. In any case, the Mitchell’s ice cream counter is off to the right in a rather dark area of the restaurant. You ring a bell for service and someone will come over and serve you. There’s maybe 16 flavors in the case — not all the ones listed on the board are available. That being said, they did have some flavors available. I got the macapuno and banana nut — both were awesome. The macapuno(young coconut) has just the right amount of coconut flavor and isn’t overpoweringly sweet. The banana nut has great banana flavor, without the sense of being over-ripe. All in all, a wonderful after-lunch sweet treat. I’m really glad that I found this location– it just means that anytime I’m in Union Square, I’ll be able to have Mitchell’s and not just rely on Melt for good ice cream. Yet another plus is that its cheaper than Melt– $ 2.10 for a single big scoop and $ 3.45 for two.

This review is based strictly on the Tapioca drink that I bought there. Anyway it was a Pineapple drink that I bought and it included those lovely black tapioca pearls on the bottom. It tasted pretty good. Still can’t beat Sophia in Jtown, but this is cool too. And besides, they server Mitchell’s Ice Cream, a San Francisco original and favorite.

This place would probably be best served if they dropped«Chinese» from their name, considering the odd number of Fillipino style dishes they offer. Regrettably, even their Fillipino dishes are a bit short of par. I had the lo mein, salt and pepper pork chops, and angel wings. The lo mein was oddly dry, the pork chops battered oddly, and wings disappointing. There are so many things that could help improve the reviews and ratings for this establishment. For starters, a larger portion would do much to offset the higher than norm pricing. Secondly, a good degreaser would really help clean up the tables and chairs — and some brighter light bulbs would help as well. Not a destination restaurant, though I guess its passable for greasy nutrition for lunch. If you have other options, consider them first before really resorting to this place.

Great ice cream, horrible location. While looking for Mitchell’s we walked by it twice before we found it. Look for Asia’s Chinese restaurant, right down the street from Mel’s Drive In on Mission. Walk into the Chinese restaurant, and make an immediate right. Mitchell’s is in the back, and it looked closed when we arrived– dark and no people. One of the Asia staff came over and served us up some ice cream. OH, it was soo worth getting lost! The ice cream is dense and creamy, yet light. I suggest getting macapuno(sweet coconut). It has large pieces of coconut in it and mixes well with other flavors. Ube is good, too, and it’s such a bright purple! :) My favorite is the grasshopper pie– soft cookies, chocolate swirls, and mint! I wish Mitchell’s was down in LA, too!

I haven’t tried the Mitchell’s location on San Jose Avenue, but the ice cream at this Mission street location is not very good. I think the one on Mission Street is just some Chinese café that offers Mitchell’s ice cream on the side and tries to capitalize on the Mitchell’s name. Mitchell’s should really think about quality control at some of it’s franchised locations. I think some of the flavors at this location have just been sitting out in the freezer for a long time. You know how old ice cream can form a gummy surface on top if it’s been sitting in the freezer for a long time and is starting to get old? That’s how my banana nut and mocha ice cream turned out. It’s distracting and just gross to get some of those chewy, gummy bits interspersed within your scoop of ice cream. BLEH!!! Anyhow, I’m going to avoid this place like the plague and try the real one on San Jose Avenue when I get the chance.

It was a summer-like Friday night(like the one’s on the East coast… humid but pleasant) and I had already settled into PJs, when my friend texted me…” Ice cream Mitchell’s you coming?“ Yes it was worth getting my but off the couch and redressed. We made it just before closing. I had the Thai tea ice cream which was very delicious.

This is your typical steam table/heat lamp chinese food place with some not so typical twists. They have all the usual noodle soups and combo lunch specials but they also have cook to order dishes. They also now offer Hawaiian BBQ lunches. Pork adobo is on their menu every day. They now have a chinese and hawaiian catering menu as well. What keeps me coming back though is the avocado shake. If I’m in the area during my lunch break I try to stop in to grab one to bring back to the office. Along with the avocado shakes they offer an assortment of Mitchell’s ice Cream and various boba drinks. The people that work here are super friendly and even if I haven’t been in the place for months they remember me and get started on my avocado shake right away. They don’t use MSG or Trans Fat in their cooking either.

Go with your gut… that’s my mantra for the new year. The owner must have danced a jig of glee when the Westfield Centre opened up across the street. Those miffed at the exorbitant prices in the food court there may find themselves considering a bite to eat here. Go with your gut and recognize this is one of those cut-rate Chinese buffet places with mounds of chow mein and fried rice in steaming aluminum trays and a smattering of formica tables and plastic chairs upon which you can park your shopping-worn behind. The routine is familiar. One dish is a little over $ 4 and just add another dollar for every additional dish. But I actually came here for their $ 6.99 Hawaiian BBQ plate since it seemed rather anomalous to serve it here. I should have gone with my gut as the chicken plate I ordered did not taste remotely barbecued. It was seared on their wide-open grill, but it still tasted ok and came with the traditional scoop of rice and scoop of macaroni salad. Since I can’t think of any aloha alternatives in the neighborhood, I have to give this place credit for providing one. A derelict came barging in, screaming profanities and causing havoc with the trays when I was eating there. So be forewarned that rarefied dining etiquette is not a given here. But hey, there’s a mini-Mitchell’s Ice Cream stand in here, so all is not completely lost. I have to give credit to the owner for sealing that sweet deal. FOOD — 2 stars… sorry, I didn’t feel like doing a hula for their barbecue and the Chinese food is as appetizing as it looks AMBIANCE — 2 stars… this is where recyclable plastic finally comes to die SERVICE — 2.5 stars… gets hectic at lunchtime and expect some sharp, canine-yelping screams from the servers if you change your order TOTAL — 2 stars… go with your gut
