A brilliant concept, ArtSF is a non profit art gallery, performance space and artists studios. They feature many première artists and really seem to be open to just about any new idea. Not to be missed; ArtSF Gallery offers a bi-monthly-ish«Noise Pancakes — Gawdwaffle» usually every other Saturday which features both known and unknown bay area and international experimental/noise/sound art, not to mention the free vegan waffles and coffee. I have personally done a handful of experimental music performances in the gallery space as well as curated an evening of international multimedia art actions by artists from Switzerland, Australia and USofA. It’s after dealing with a certain lack of communication and organization which seems an integral part of these com unity based organizations that forces me not to give ArtSF Gallery a perfect 5 star rating. In the performances I arranged the international artists were promised 100% of the door donations to help subsidize their travel expenses. But night of the show the person I had coordinated plans with had to be elsewhere and there was a different representative of Art SF present and controlling the monies. Needless to say he had a very different idea of where the donations would be going(100%) ArtSF Gallery. After some Swiss outrage, Australian concern and protests from the locals ArtSF Gallery agreed to give 50% of the proceeds to our visitors. If you’ve got an art exhibit concept but nowhere to show it and you are willing to do the legwork for promotion, etc., ArtSF Gallery is a pretty good place to start.
