My +1 and I stopped by the Opening Reception for the Puss ‘N Boots II erotic art exhibit. It was awkward and uncomfortable, but not in the way you might think. It was like a Stefon skit unfolding before me… Housed in a furniture showroom, this place has everything: Couches Side tables Decorative accent bowls… Wait. Isn’t this supposed to be an *erotic* art exhibit? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes… Okay: If you want to shop for furniture while you ponder a painting, this is the perfect place for you! On opening night, it had: A $ 5 door fee Wine in plastic cups A fishbowl full of potato chips An assortment of poorly-constructed cocktail hats– Wait. What do hats have to do with an erotic art exhibit? Exaaaaactly! The themed works are on display in a small, upstairs loft. If you want to be underwhelmed, then this is the place for you. It has: Transsexuals Girl on girl on girl fisting Portraits in shades of lipstick… «I’ve been here once,» said the +1, «it’s not a total loss — I saw a sofa here I kind of liked. I’ll show it to you!» This show just felt all kinds of amateur hour. I am disappointed that the gallery would promote such a weak show in such a lackluster, multi-purpose venue. As an avid supporter of the arts and a sex-positive person, I had a reasonable standard of expectations for both the space and the show. I have legions of friends who are paid creatives, and I can’t think of a single one who would agree to have their work shown in a furniture store. Ho, it was hum. Zzzzzzzzzz…

The Amelia Hyde is a great space and I love the art shows they do there. Amelia Hyde works with amazing artists and her exhibitions are top-notch. She knows what’s cool, cutting-edge and can identify emerging artists, because she’s been in the business for so many years. We went to her recent Puss ‘N Boots show and it was incredible!
