ACT’s Young Conservatory, in many ways, saved my son. As a talented, NOT typical young man, finding the YC when he was 10 or so was instrumental in allowing him to really discover himself(as corny as that sounds). It gave him opportunities that remain some of the most important moments in his life. The YC is a place that allows bright, creative kids to experiment with character, with music, with humor, with trying on different personas. But the myriad things the YC teaches are NOT limited to acting — although some kids do go on to successful acting careers — my son, using his speech, self-assurance, dialect, & physical acting skill, is a middle school teacher in the UK. Craig Slaight,(the director of the YC) understands kids like no one i’ve ever met — he trusts them to do the right thing(instead of TELLING them) and so they do. His incomparable humor, age appropriate reveling and sensitivity to adolescent vagaries and insecurities make him, and his faculty unrivaled. If your child wants to act, or even just have a REALLY good time while learning highly usable life skills, sing, dance, or develop an Irish accent — sign them up for ACT’s Young Conservatory!
