I’ve been here twice and been happy both times with the ramen. Broth is very rich and flavorful, lots of meat and tonkatsu is generous. The eel over rice was huge and very filling. $ 15 min on credit card kinda sucks, though, but at least they accept it.

This is my husband and I go to place for ramen cause it’s so close to home. I am extremely happy to have found this place. Very good ramen that will satisfy you on a cold SF weather. Super friendly and excellent service every time we eat here. I always order the Curry Chicken Katsu Ramen. And even though it’s not on the menu anymore, they still make it just for me, every time! 5 stars for that! My husband always enjoy his Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. We always leave full and happy

Checked this place out on a whim today for lunch(Friday around 12pm) with my BF and we enjoyed our overall expereince. FOOD: They have a large selection of ramen with different broths. Each item has it’s own picture and list of ingredients explaining what broth and toppings each ramen is made of. In addition to ramen, they also have donburi and tapa items. I’m reviewing the Tonkatsu House special and the Garlic Tonkatsu. The regular Tonkatsu was pretty flavorful and great amount of toppings and not too oily. THe only complaint I have is that they didn’t use actually«ramen» noodle(see pictures below). The texture of the boil egg was on point, but the marination could be better. Side note: they have two sizes — small and large. Small comes with a quail egg instead of a whole boil egg and of course, smaller portions. SERVICE: Super friendly and quick! They also have free wifi which is always a plus :) AMBIANCE: This place is located right next to city college and has metered parking as well as residential parking. The shop is actually decently sized with max capacity of 49 people to give an estimate. Good for parties 2 – 6. Overall, I would come back again if I were in the area and craving ramen.

I’m new to the neighborhood and extremely happy to have found this place. $ 8 bowls of tasty ramen will definitely satisfy me on a cold and foggy SF night/weekend. I got the black garlic tonkotsu ramen. Spicy with corn. It was very good for its price and I was surprised how flavorful the broth and meat was in the bowl. I will definitely be coming back as i think this place is much better than some of the other options on Ocean Avenue.

Very disappointed with my most recent visit to 21 Taste House… My bf and I used to come here for our quick ramen fix, but probably not anymore. They re-vamped the menu, and it looks great with new pictures and better organization. The old menu was sort of all over the place. However, now you can choose between two sizes of ramen(small or large). I ordered a small(black garlic tonkotsu ramen) because I could never finish the normal bowls. I figured it would have the same toppings that the other bowls had before. My bf ordered a small(honey pork belly ramen). When we got the bowls, we both noticed the huge size difference. How depressing! :(I also noticed that there was no bean sprouts in my soup like they used to have, and I only got 2 pieces of chasu compared to the 4 pieces that they used to give… Also, for a small, you now only get one quail egg instead of a soft boiled egg(they let you know this on the menu). The noodles were also lacking here, I think they give around ½ the portion that they used to. Sadly, we won’t be back.

21 Taste is just 11 shy of Baskin Robin’s 32 flavors. Don’t worry, maybe you’ll catch up someday. I stopped in for a bowl of ramen since 90% of the restaurants on Ocean were closed by 8:00pm on a Sunday. Having visited Japan about a month ago, my ramen standards have forever been ruined. However, I’m a simple person and with low expectations and 21 Taste fit the bill. + Fit the bill = the $ 10 price point was right for the large portion, quality ingredients, and kind service. + Honestly, the broth tasted like some Chinese people made it. I mean. Ocean is a Chinese dominant area so I didn’t expect them to have imported some Japanese Ramen Master to teach the secrets of broth making. Not impressing but absolutely bet my expectations. + The Spicy Tonkatsu won’t light you up if you eat spicy food regularly but the house-made chili P was a pleasant surprise of flavor. + There is a daily list of $ 6.75 specials in front of the restaurant. I forgot to take a picture. + $ 15 credit card minimum This is definitely a very solid 3 star establishment(meets expectations) but the only standout characteristic is that it’s the only ramen place on the block. Give it a try if you’re craving a bowl of noodles.

This is a small hole in the wall place on ocean just a hop skip and a jump from city college. It’s great when you get to school early or get out early. Various ramen available for those chilly SF nights like tonight & donburi & other rice plates available if you’re not in the mood for soup. By far the best thing I’ve had here is their chicken karaage appetizer. The portion for a «small» is worth the $ 7.95 you pay, at least in my opinion. It’s not your typical karaage. Teriyaki glaze & kyupi mayonnaise zigzag the tops of the chicken pieces, and then they sprinkle nori(seaweed) strips & katsuobushi(bonito fish flakes) atop the sauce drizzled chicken. I ask for mine with no katsuobushi because I’m allergic to fish & they’re very accommodating about that. I have however, also brought it home for the rest of my family with the katsuobushi on top and they love what it adds to the chicken. In other news I’ve only had their Black Garlic Tonkotsu Ramen and it’s delicious. You can also add sides of things like egg, kimchi etc to your bowl of Ramen. I definitely recommend this place. It’s a little on the small side with no good place to park around other than street parking but I take the bus everywhere so that isn’t an issue for me. And when I come I’ve never had to wait for a table for one. Not the place for a huge group tho. They only have 5 two-person tables and 5 four-person tables. So that’s about 30 max seating. But come if you’re in the neighborhood & have a hankering for some delicious warming Japanese food.
