I have driven by this place on my way home so many times and i finally tried it. The wife and I decided to give it a try because we wanted BBQ and nothing else sounded good. O.K. here is the breakdown… The lady on the phones was very pleasant when taking my phone order. She called me honey and sweetie and I felt like I was talking to Paula Deen from the Food Network. I arrived and the place was damn hot inside. Note to self, never eat there in the summer time. It was a narrow place with a decent amount of tables but too hot. I know it’s a BBQ place and all but I like to be comfortable while I eat. When we cracked our to go boxes we noticed the sides were pretty small, like samples from Costco small. However, the potato salad was damn tasty and the cole slaw was pretty decent as well. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich and complained it was too fatty. She is used to Phil’s lean and crisp pulled pork«Broham» sandwich which I do agree is better. I had the beef brisket dinner and thought it was very good. I felt I got scammed on the brisket but once I unwrapped the foil the amount filled me up. The slices resembled sting cheese as I tore the tender pieces apart and dipped them in BBQ sauce(which is tangy and delicious). my cornbread was bland and horrible, but the sides made up for it. I just wish they were bigger. If I was craving BBQ and didn’t want to leave town I would come here again. However, I don’t think it is SD’s best.

I stoped by this place yesterday. The BBQ food is really good. my husband is picky and he liked it. I had the pulled chicken sandwich, and he had pork ribs. the food was very tasty, good vaue too. the serving sizes were generous, I had enough food to last me 2 days. the lady who helped me was was very sweet. I wish they had more good places like this… like closer to the Clairemont area!!!

So I went to the Santee library with my family and decided to try KB’s BBQ. When we walked in, the place was so hot I did not really want to be there anymore. My wife and I reviewed the menu and we started to order. I was going to order the half chicken and ribs plate which was pricey but you know all BBQ seems to be pricey good or bad. When it came to ordering my sides I asked nicely if I might be able to try their cole slaw. Every place does Cole slaw different and I am so picky about it. The lady working the front counter replied«We are not baskin robins 31 flavors. The guys at the back dont like customers asking to sample anything». I dont think I have ever been replied with such an odd answer about tasting some cole slaw before ordering it as a side. I asked the lady to cancel our order and we drove to Phil’s BBQ. MMmmmm do we love Phil’s. Phil’s BBQ is the best in town and is San Diego’s BBQ.

We tried it last night and the reviews are right on the money. The nice lady up front helped us decide what to order. I don’t eat anything with 4 legs, so pulled chicken sammy with garlic fries it was. Hubby got the brisket sammy with Cajun fries. Yum! Hubby was looking at the menu on the wall while he was eating, trying to decide what to get next time! We will gladly give this neighborhood joint our business. Santee needs more good, non-chain restaurants(yuck to Chili’s & Olive Garden).

I have been coming here since the first day the place opened. It is great to have some decent BBQ in Santee! These guys are awesome! The owners are super friendly, the food is great, and the sweet potato pie(when you can get one) is out of this world. My family loves BBQ and we try to go here at least once a month.

The food is good but the service is slow and why do I have to pay $.50 for BBQ sauce when there is barely any on my sandwich? There are a lot of BBQ places in San Diego, and even though this one is good, there are others that are as good but have better service. I would suggest you try it but be forewarned.

Earlier today in the midst of trying to beat the heat and having ridiculous cravings for some soul food, the significant other and I head to this delectable little joint that is quite unique from your ordinary«Phil’s BBQ». Upon entering, we were quickly greeted by a sweet ‘ol lady that was really helpful with the menu. There were so many choices that I knew I couldn’t go wrong with any. With no hesitation, I order the pork ribs with chicken and a side of garlic rosemary fries, baked beans and cornbread. While waiting, I was preparing myself for what would be my meal for the whole entire day! In a matter of 3 – 4 mins, I prepared myself with an open mind and stomach. The food came out smelling really good and even more tasty than it looked! Straight Memphis BBQ was finger lickin’ good and worth heading out to Santee to try! Seriously… The owner and everyone employed by this place is really friendly! They really make sure you are taken care of as you will notice that there is a small town feel to the place. I would definitely come back again!
