I called Mark to see what his availability was. He typically works 3 days a week now and no longer has a store-​front. He offered to take a look at my Thorens turntable in his upstairs shop. The RCA tips on my TD280 were crimped and loose, which meant that I had to man-​handle the cables every time I wanted to listen to a record. I had been looking for years for someone who could re-​wire the cable from the circuit board! I couldn’t find anyone in San Francisco or Marin County that does this type of repair.
Once I brought it in, he told me he could just replace the RCA tips and keep the existing wire, saving me some $$. He did the work in 2 days and now my TT has a new life — with no manual adjustments needed! There may be 4 $‘s on Unilocal,but he’s definitely more a 2 considering the type of expertise and equipment needed to make these types of repairs.

Scratched my wood floor, broke my table shelf, talked incessantly…

They know their business and take the time to turn you in the right direction as long as you are serious. Hey, it’s a quirky place, but what do you expect from a bunch of hi fi geeks? I went in to buy some headphones because mine sounded mushy. They let me try out mine and the ones they had for sale for a couple of hours. Didn’t bug me to hurry up. They tried to talk me into keeping the ones I already had, but instead of selling me nothing, I walked out with $ 700 worth of headphones and a dac amp and a full understanding of all the variables involved in headphones. I would say you have to be reasonably knowledgeable about what you want to have them pay attention to you, but isn’t that true of any sort of specialty store?

I went to this place today to get my son a needle for his record player. I talked to Mark at the front desk and told him i had NO idea what needle to buy, and he said «well you better get some more info because there are 500 needles to choose from» and i said «it says LP on the arm» and he chuckled and said «that means long play and still doesn’t give me anything.» So instead of trying to help me, he made a phone call to someone to let them know he was «on his way» and walked out, with me just sitting there!!! This place is HORRIBLE

I needed a new stylus and wanted to upgrade my cartridge. I took a picture of the make and model of my turntable and went shopping at Soundscape. The product sold to me was incorrect.
For reasons unexplained, I waited a full TWO YEARS to return to Soundscape. Having low expectations with turntable in hand, I soon was pleasantly surprised. Within five minutes, I was out the door with a newly upgraded cartridge – personally installed – with a full refund credit to boot.
Nice save Soundscape, now I’m jammin.

I cannot express the lack of customer service demonstrated by mark, the owner of this pathetic business. I brought my vintage turntable to be repaired to this business being the only place in the Bay Area that might have any knowledge in this field. Not only did I pay a small fortune to repair my family heirloom but when I got it home it did not work ! When confronted with the problem this «business «told me to see them in court. Apparently the customer is wrong. I do not give bad reviews on Unilocal but this business is a joke. I have no idea how they are in business must be a trust baby. Stay away at all cost, horrible customer service from start to finish. Zero star if possible

Everything in his store, no matter the price, is an outstanding performer and he stands behind his products. Also, his knowledge and years of experience mean that you are getting «sound advice» from an expert, not a 21 year old kid with a booming system in his ’92 civic that want’s to take a smoke break!
I see some ho-​hum reviews below but I suspect they are from looky-loo’s. If you are looking to buy, Marc will take care of you from start to forever so worry not. If you just want to see and hear a collection of gear that you will never be able to buy even in your wildest dreams, hit the web and check out the reviews and live demos that the Mfg has posted.

Very expensive for components you can buy for much less elsewhere. I saved a lot of money just going to another store.
