I like this place, tons of odds and ends all under one roof(or yard). I’ve bought a lot of scrap steel from them for my Jeep project and their prices are very reasonable. The staff are helpful and fun to interact with. They are much more than scrap steel, they sell tools and associates items that are brand new and still in the packaging. Its a nice little neighbor gem.

Not as cool as it was when I gave a 4 star review in 2010. I have been frequenting Bataeff for many years now. You can still find random stuff here. I have noticed the stock is running low and not being replenished like it used to. It is still fun to come here and search for random doodads for your off the wall project. I have also noticed their prices are for run of the mill stuff you can buy at a hardware store are higher.

Ummmm, amazing! Everything I need for all of my miscellaneous projects that I most likely will never finish AND I do not have to hear ‘can I help you find something’ 800 times from some kid in a bright orange apron. If I am going to spend money I really should not spend, I prefer to spend it someplace local, and this place is right on my way to work. I just need to face the facts, it was meant to be.

This is where metal goes to die, literally. Bataeff salvage co. is a small operated junk/salvage yard. You can find an array of parts and or scarps of all sizes and cost. They have some new items and old ones. I never would have found it if my friend hadn’t taken me. Its off of santa rosa avenue, on Mountain View Ave. Really quite a unique place, from steel scrap, to shovels, to pressure cookers, to kit kat bars, Bataeff salvage might just have it!

I could agree with the guy who gave it only 4 stars based upon some stuff being too expensive, but some of there merchandise is insanely under priced! For a long time, in the covered section right before the indoor shop and cashier area, they had several big plastic bins full of drill bits and Recip saw blades… American made, titanium nitride drill bits in sorta odd sizes, like 23/64″, 29/64″ and similar for a buck each! The sawzall blades were a buck or 2 each as well, and name brand items. I’ve also bought angle iron, galvanized winch cable, and fishing lures at pretty good to excellent prices. Surplus fittings, nuts, bolts, fasteners, electrical terminals are all priced pretty well, while many of the tools and other items inside with the cashier are priced high. Some of the tools aren’t any better than Harbor Freights stuff, and priced higher. The drill bits, Recip saw blades, and fishing lures give the place 5 stars in my book, and the admittedly unique atmosphere allows some high prices to not give the place any downgrade

This place has surplus ammo cans! That was the one item I was searching SR for. Friedman’s used to have them, but apparently they were a one time purchase(special order). I called Good to Go Military Surplus(Cotati), and the referred me to Bataeff. The small ones were only $ 15, there was two pallets full, and they were in great condition. They had bigger ones for $ 20.

I go once a week or so to get all sorts of useful nick-nack and junk.

I always stop at this place if I’m going the back way to Friedman’s. Combination salvage yard/hardware store/graveyard for old appliances, it is a scavenger hunt for adults. You can find a parachute or a $ 5 hurricane lamp. The inside is trippy especially the ceiling with all sorts of old hanging copper and brass items, ammo, guns — things they will not sell you but are cool to look at. Do not wear flip flops or heels — this is a steel toe boot kind of place. Worth a stop if you are in the area. They will even buy your excess copper.

One star off because it’s too expensive for a salvage yard. But nevermind that– it’s SO much fun! You can probably find what you need, and you’ll walk out with $ 50 worth of stuff you don’t need at all, just because it was too neat to pass up. I haven’t been in a year or so, but when I was going more regularly Bataeff’s was espcially good for line/rope, cables, fasteners(meaning nails, screws, washers, etc), and copper in sheets or other random formats. It’s not that organized, but it’s not that big either, so you can find what you need. If you have some time and are in the area, you should come check it out, just to see what they have that day. Bonus– the folks that work there have always been nice, too.
