This is a decent spot to just kick back and hang with some friends. Definitely not a place to look for an amazing meal with beautiful ambience though. Our group of 4 had the shepherds pie, bangers and mash, chicken and mushroom pie, and beet salad. I would have to say that things are pricey for the quality of food. The shepherds pie looked great and tasted alright. Very dense with the potatoes on top. The bangers and mash were nothing special, but came highly recommended by the waitress. The peas tasted like canned peas(which they probably were). The chicken and mushroom pie was the best dish here, with a nice flaky crust and a good flavor profile. The beet salad was decent too if you’re looking for some lighter fare. Overall, this place is casual and super Britishy. All the waitresses had a British accent. Were they real? Maybe. But it was kind of cool. I’ll probably try some other places around Santa Monica if I come back around the way though.

We went to Kings Head for Saturday Afternoon Tea this weekend. It was my wife’s 50th birthday and she loves afternoon tea. There were 7 of us and we all enjoyed the afternoon. The Scottish waitress /tea server was very attentive. And the spread was way more than any of us can eat. It’s Monday now and we are still eating the doggie bag pastries. We made reservations, but it probably wasn’t necessary. It’s February and we were there at 2:30 and there were 3 – 4 other tables of people(less than half full.) It’s in a special room, away from the bar /restaurant so it doesn’t feel like a pub.

I have been coming here since 1982. I have always had the best service, the best food and the best time. I love sitting outside and soaking up the afternoon sun and enjoying the fish and chips. I celebrate special occasions here and always bring out of town guests. Here is hoping to many future occasions here. BRAVO!

Wether you come in twos or bring a big group, there’s no doubt you’ll have a blast. Sundays are my favorite because they have a karaeoke night going. They have an enormous variety of genres to choose from. Everyone is drinking and singing their hearts out! I’m coming back!!!

As a Brit in LA in need of some home comforts I was extremely happy to find them here. We ordered the sausage rolls for a starter, two decent sized sausage rolls arrived with HP sauce… Yum!!! As it was a Sunday I ordered the beef roast and was extremely happy to see parsnips on my plate #godblessyou. The beef was delicious, it was accompanied by roasted parsnips and carrots, traditional roasties, peas and gravy. And for desert … STICKYTOFFEEPUDDING!!! #thebomb. OMG I have missed these so much… Absolutely delicious(and a generous portion) served with toffee sauce and birds custard After food we visited the shop, a great selection of British foods and goods, spent a sweet(but totally worth it) penny on some mint sauce, birds custard, English mustard, milky ways, chocolate celebrations, Yorkshire pudding mix, robinsons black and apple squash, hp sauce, bread sauce mix and most importantly BRITISHBACON! #lifeiscomplete All I can end with is thank you #yeoldekingshead

Our large group thoroughly enjoyed Afternoon Tea at Ye Olde King’s Head in Santa Monica. We were served 4 different sandwiches, deviled egg, sausage roll, mini quiche, scone and 2 desserts — all very delicious! Exceptional value for Afternoon Tea in the L.A. area. Service by Christine was attentive and gracious. The authentic English Pub décor really adds to the experience. I recommend parking garages 2 or 6 on 2nd Street. Plan your arrival early due to Santa Monica traffic/parking/walking & before or after tea be sure to visit the English shop.

1−30−16: We visit all the time for photowalks in this incredible area. This place is by far and away the friendliest service and atmosphere we have ever had. Going to be honest here and it may offend some… other places have been a little snooty and uppity. Kings Head has fantastic ambience and terrific service. The location cannot be beat for the promenade and pier. We WILL be back.

My family and I made a special trip today just to give this place a try. Each of us ordered something different so we could experience a bigger variety of English fare. I ordered the salmon — 3 out of 5 stars. Kinda fatty. I mean, I know salmon is fatty, but this was more so. Husband ordered the Irish Stew. 5 out of 5 stars. Delicious. Melt in your mouth comfort food. He left a very happy plate. Son #1 ordered the fish and chips. 3 out of 5 stars. Good but nothing mind blowing. Son #2 ordered the shepherd’s pie. 5 out of 5 stars. Comfort food, man. Really delicious. For dessert we got the rhubarb crumble. Sour and blah. The others split a toffee sticky pudding thing and they loved it. I tasted it and it tasted strongly of brown sugar. It was delicious and we almost wanted to order another one. We chose to do a late lunch/early dinner so there was no crowd and we were seated right away. The server had a Brit accent and called us «Love» which melted us. She was sweet and efficient and made great recommendations. The restaurant itself could use a bit of updating. It’s looking tired due to heavy traffic. It’s a great restaurant and I wouldn’t hesitate to go again.

Ok update. Not coming here anymore. Food was terrible. Ughhh. Shepard’s pie changed, doesn’t even have veggies inside the ground beef. They dont serve peas anymore with the traditional Brit dishes. Fish and Chips soggy! And not in a good way. Sticky toffee pudding was atrocious – cold, dry and custard was lumpy. Beer was super bitter. What the hell happened to this place? And as usual the service on the patio was as usual, crap. Had to get up three times to find ketchup, salt and pepper and vinegar myself. Waitress was no where to be found. Not coming here anymore. Done.

One of my favorite dinning options around the promenade. My go-to is the chicken and mushroom pie with mash, incredible! I also thoroughly enjoy their fish n’ chips. My grandmother said the ribs were the best she’s ever had. I really need to try the Afternoon Tea! It always looks like a lot of fun, and tasty! Service has always been great.

Went to Ye Old Kingshead on NYE2015. The place was packed and we managed to get the last free table without a reservation. We were starving and ordered fish n chips, which were delightful and sausage rolls. Omg! The sausage roll was to die for, better than my mothers version and that says a lot. But what was most remarkable was the proficiency of the staff. They were quick and attentive. And all around friendly despite the madness going on around them. I can only recommend a visit, even if it’s just to take in the cozy atmosphere.

If you are a fan of a real english breakfast, i definitely recommend this place. Had the kings breakfast and i left the plates all empty except the crust of my fried bread. The eggs were made right, good good bacon, the sausage was good but with that ive tasted slightly better. All in all, great ambience, great service and great food. 5 easy

rate the place because of the food which is always great and the service which is great as well. fuck your 1 star ratings due to having to pay an entrance fee for a pay per view event. go to the fox n hounds or cock n bull and expect the same. international friendlies or uefa cup matches, you have to pay. it is also not the fault of ye olde kings head for the piss poor traffic in santa monica due to construction. yeah and expect loud noise levels, ITIS A FUCKINGPUB!!! you whiny one star giving cunts. bring ear muffs next time or stay home and order your own pay per view events.

This is your classic British pub if you want to feel like you’re drinking in London! The crowd on the weekend can draw a pretty cute very Westside crowd and during the week the people tend to scale a bit older. They have a great selection of beers! There’s a restaurant and a bar section. The bar section has darts and you can play if you leave your ID at the bar. On Friday and Saturday nights, the darts area can turn into a dance floor. It’s worth checking out! And walking distance from the beach :)

Very cute place! Traditional British vibe. Not upscale just casual. Nice place in the cut to round a couple girls to get together. Service was very nice. Reasonable tea time for all that you get. You get a spread of different little sandwiches and sweets. Tea refills for about $ 22!

Dear Unilocal, I’ve never had the food here, however, we came here last night(Friday) and had SO much fun. We randomly popped in for a drink, wasn’t expecting much from this British pub, but ended up having ridiculous fun dancing to the DJ. I will be back.

The food is pretty damn good… I ordered what pretty much everyone else orders, the fish and chips, the shepherds pie, and clam chowder. The portions are generous in size and definitely share worthy. The fish and chips were amazing because they were fried to perfection while not being so greasy. The batter was light and crispy, it didn’t overwhelm the fish itself. The amount of fish meat was great, compared to other fish n chips who like to add a lot of batter and little fish meat, but not here… this place offers more fish than batter and that’s a huge plus. The shepherds pie was pretty big, covered with mash potatoes and a big portion of beef under it. The seasonings gave the beef a great flavor and the mash potatoes set it off as a perfect balance of flavor and texture. The clam chowder was very good, it wasn’t too watery, it was nice and creamy with nice chunks of potatoes in it. Overall I definitely recommend this place if you want some good fish and chips or shepherds pie. Parking is hit or miss, you’re in Santa Monica for crying out loud. The staff was so so, they could use some more waitresses. The beer on tap was like any other bar, good and cold. Prices, not that cheap but again you’re in Santa Monica.

Came here this morning to watch Ireland play France in the Rugby World Cup. As soon as we walked in we were told there was a $ 20 charge per person to watch the game, as it was a pay per view event. I was completely taken off guard. I have never had to pay entrance to a pub to watch an international sporting event, ever. I understand that this was a pay per view event, but passing this fee onto patrons who intend to buy food and drinks is poor form. On top of that, there was no notification, online or on the door, to customers informing them that they would be charged for this event. We couldn’t get a table in the bar as it was jammed, so we sat in the lounge part. The lounge was pretty comfortable, and once the game got into swing the atmosphere lifted. The staff were friendly and attentive even when busy. I won’t be going back here again after my experience today. So be warned, and call ahead if you plan to attend any sporting events here as you may have to pay for the privilege of watching it.

I would have given this place a higher rating were it not for the rude service. We were in Santa Monica looking for a place to eat and settled on Ye Olde Kings Head. Seating was painless with ample seating both indoors and outdoors. We opted for an outdoor table nestled against the window. Service started out slow, we waited for a bit before the waitress came by to get take our order. No biggie. About 15 mins later, we got our food, 1 order of Fish & Chips Queen Size and Bangers and Mash and a cup of Clam Chowder. The fish was quite good, nice batter and very crunchy and flaky at the same time. Delicious! The Bangers and Mash was even better. Their sausage had so much flavor. You can definitely taste a hint of cumin. The food was good and worth coming back but I have to point out the service. When we completed our meal and asked for the check, the waitress was yapping away with the people next to us, apparently they were visiting from England. Once she came back with the check, she dropped it on my table. No thank you, no acknowledgement. She turned to the same table and started yapping again.

Came here on a Saturday afternoon around 3:30. Sat on the patio which is nice! They have some shade but it can get pretty loud. Service was fairly slow(it wasn’t busy which is surprising for a Saturday in the summer) but it took forever to get our check and food. We were the only patrons on the patio so I could see how it’d be easy to forget about us. I ordered the veggie burger(was pretty bland. Tasted like a frozen morning star) and my boyfriend ordered the pub burger. He enjoyed his! Neither of us were fans of the fries(very bland and soggy). Beer selection is decent! Had the Santa Monica x pale ale on tap.

Best Fish & Chips in town! I’m not here for the beer or the pastries, just give me the King’s Fish & Chips please. These are unlike any fish and chips you’ll have. They’re huge! Wish it was a little less expensive, but it’s worth it if you’re dining in. The service here is great, the staff knows how to run the show and keep everyone happy. Great tip: you are free to choose your seat… even though it may look like there’s only a specific section to choose from you can actually sit wherever you like just ask the servers. Tips: Visit the shops near by and Camera Obscura! Parking is plentiful but be careful of your belongings, hide them there have been some break ins these days.

This place is a crowded mess at night with everyone jammed into the pub and dart room. But it is still one of the best British pubs in LA, if not the entire country. However crowded the pub may be, the rest of the place has ample seating, restaurant style. They offer pub grub and British fare including English breakfast with black pudding, and of course fish and chips. The pints of beer ain’t bad either.

A great place for fish and chips, but it depends on the day. And by that I mean… who is on the fish fryer. Some times I come and it’s great. Crisp, light batter and beautifully white fish, with lovely english style chips and the best mushy peas this side of the Atlantic. Other times, the fish is under or overcooked, very oiley, a bit heavy on the batter and seems to have been put from fryer to plate without any hesitation. Either way, if I need a Fish n Chips fix, this is the place to come in LA. Just hope you catch them on a good day, no pun intended.
