Toastmasters: Sand and Sea Speakers

I’ve been surprised by all the ways Toastmasters has changed my life for the better. As expected, I have grown to be a better speaker. But I have also learned how to give constructive feedback, lead a meeting efficiently, lead a team by consensus, actively listen and problem solve while on stage. Sand and Sea Speakers is a sandbox where I can try new things, make mistakes and learn from them.

I have been a member of Sand and Sea Speakers for 6 months. Out of all the Toastmasters clubs on the westside, I was most comfortable with this one. The other clubs on the westside either didn’t have enough members or they were too impersonal. I visited about 5 toastmaster clubs before I chose this one.
The people at Sand and Sea Speakers are very friendly and supportive. Before I learned about Toastmasters, I was a very nervous speaker. When I do a speech at the Sand and Sea Speakers club, I get really good feedback and I know immediately what I need to improve on. I feel comfortable with these people.
This club also helps me with my leadership and listening skills by participating in meeting roles (speech evaluator, speech timer, grammarian, etc). So I’m not just doing speeches when I’m attending the club.
Guests can come for free but to participate as a speaker or do any of the meeting roles, you have to be a member.
What’s also great about this club is that you can get a mentor to help you out. My mentor is great because she pushes me to do my best and gives me great feedback on my speech. The club also records you when you’re delivering your speech, which very, very helpful if you want to see what you need to improve on.
Overall, it’s a great experience!

Sand and Sea Speakers is a local Toastmasters club, of which I have been a member for about a year.
You’ll find a great diversity of members, who are all warm, friendly, and welcoming.
This is also a great place to learn how to improve your public speaking abilities, leadership abilities, and general overall confidence.
Highly recommended, this group meets every Monday night at 7:00 PM.
