We stopped here for a quick lunch, it was great, sushi is just perfect, tempura is really tasty, prices are very good for the area, and we were very happy.

Needed a quick dinner before class in the area. Ordered chicken teriyaki special $ 7.95.came with salad, miso soup, &3 pcs california roll. Chicken was super dry. Below avg food. It is in a food court. The guy serving me was nice. Don’t know why there was a tip line on the check. ambience sucked. But I added the change to total $ 10. Pretty pricey. but they serve on nice plastics. similar to the ones in Century City food court.

Even though it is in the Food Court in Santa Monica, the food is very fresh and favorable. The prices are great for what you get and they do offer a great selection to chose from. You won’t be disappointed at all

It’s rare that you can find a sushi place that not only has terrible food but even worse service. I felt like I was being yelled at while trying to ask questions of the menu. I have been here multiple time and each time the cashier is rude, short with me and generally not helpful. The food is subpar but will do for a quick pick up and run sushi bar. It’s the service that kills it for me. Food never tastes as good when grumpy people serve it to you.

I came here with two girl friends after watching a movie and shopping at the Promenade at around 8pm on a Friday night. Location was convenient since it was a food court kind of setting, but was a bit sketch. We sat on the bar, which was almost empty. The sushi chefs were super friendly and made conversation with us despite our broken Spanish. I ordered the salmon sushi(2pc), the eel avocado roll and the dragon roll. The service was quick, but the food was just mediocre. The salmon sushi was alright, nothing special really. The dragon roll was topped with tuna, shrimp, avocado and one other type of fish. That was okay too. I had higher expectations for the eel avocado roll. It left me a little disappointed because it was drenched in sauce and there wasn’t much eel nor avocado for something called«eel and avocado roll.» In other words, the entire dining experience wasn’t very memorable with the exception of THEBILL. I paid $ 30 for my dinner, which I totally didn’t expect(I guess I should’ve looked more closely at the prices when I was ordering). For $ 30, I could’ve definitely spent it on something better. The prices here don’t reflect the quality of the produce so I probably will try another place next time I find myself on 3rd Street.

I’am giving them 2 stars because although they are situated in an in-door mall they can be better. The food display looked appetizing but it was just so-so once you eat it. I asked for extra ginger(I loves it) and of course did not get it when I sat down to eat it. It seems as though the manger woman doesn’t really hear people or just does not care. I did take-out once and have not been back.

I had the teriyaki special that comes with beef, rice and california rolls. I asked the owner for eel sauce for my sushi and she refused because she said california rolls and eel sauce werent a good tasting mach! I explained that I liked it that way and she still refused. I AMNOTOKAYWITHTHIS.

Bad decision to eat here for a rest, their service is cold and the food absolutely isn’t worth that price, i ordered the spicy tuna roll and, come on! where is the tuna? Is that muddy thing? i can hardly figure out the taste.

I ordered baked scallop dynamite for quik lunch. …Horrible. I know how sushi and rolls should taste like. This was way below my expectation. Price is not that expensive, but neither it is cheap. Will never come to this place again. I recommend you go to another restaurant when you are at 3rd.

Wasn’t overly impressed with this place. The rolls were rather expensive($ 8 – 11 per) for a hole-in-the-wall such as here.

I want to start out by saying if I could rate it ZERO stars I would. First the ambiance, this place is technically outdoors in what could be qualified as a food court. It is what you expect from an outdoor«mall» food court, it’s dirty. My friend and I were in a bind and needed food fast and McDonald’s was the only other choice which had numerous homeless in front of it asking for money. So sushi was on the menu that night. Now onto the food, it was not that great. Their prices are way too high for the quality of food that you are served. I had salmon sashimi and the Santa Monica roll and both were forgettable(mainly because of the story I am ending this review with) but overall just not very good. The presentation was ugly which is a cardinal sin as sushi is practically the food that started food presentation as an art. My sashimi came on top of that fake grass plastic paper and it was not sticking out for me to notice so at first I thought my sashimi was turning green…(seriously). The roll I got was watery, which I am assuming was from an attempt to make the rice sticky or possibly from the seaweed wrap. I eat a lot of sushi and I have never had watery rice on anything. Next onto the service, it was even worse. First they took forever to get us their canned green tea(which was gross and tasted like dirt). We actually got our food before we got our drinks, which they did apologize for, and they explained that they simply forgot(we were the only two customers there mind you). They tried to look busy anytime we had an inquiry or needed anything and then this happened: To compound their bad service my friend picked up one of his sushi pieces and there was a live bug hiding behind it. My friend is practically a kung fu master so his first reaction was in one swift motion to get the bug away from him. The bug didn’t fly but it did run up the window of the restaurant. We frantically waved our server over and explained there was this bug on my friends dish hiding behind his shrimp sushi. The server explained that it was from outside the restaurant and he would send someone to remove the bug, no mention of making another plate or to comp the dish, they literally sent out a bus boy to squash the bug and leave a smear mark on their window. My friend stopped eating, I regretfully had already finished my food, so I finished my drink and we politely asked for the check. The whole time the entire staff was staring us down and rude until we paid and left. Needless to say we will never be returning here again.

We stopped for a quick ramen and chicken udon while shopping. My friend thought the ramen was good. The chicken udon I had was just ok. I liked the noodles and broth, but the chicken was white meat which was kind of dry. Overall, though it’s an A-OK place if you want something quick and affordable while shopping in Santa Monica.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch today while shopping on the Promenade. I ordered the ramen soup and he ordered the teriyaki special that came with miso soup, salad, and two California rolls. Both of us were full afterwards. It was cheap, good took about 8−10min to be made. I enjoyed my soup. It was mainly noodles though and I wish there were more chunks of meat. The teriyaki was good too but that chicken was a little off. Our only complaint was the atmosphere. We had a homeless man ask us for money and it was just ugly! I suggest eating outside on the outside seating looking out on the Promenade.

Despite being a food court, Shogun actually produces decent food. I came here on several occasions dining by myself. Yes, I have learned to eat out alone! I’ve tried the tempura Udon soup which is a perfect comfort on a cold day in Santa Monica. Don’t be fooled by food court’s usual quality and the soup was flavorful in broth and generous in portions. I also recently came by to get some rolls. Though a lot more pricey than I’m used to back in SGV($ 7 for a regular roll), the spicy albacore and salmon skin did justice for my craving. I’m also glad they made it fresh when I ordered it instead of telling me to pick up a pre-packaged box next to the counter. Credit Cards accepted with a $ 10 minimum. They have a counter top table alongside so single diners are very much welcomed. I already know I’ll be a regular here.

Before catching a movie across the street on promenade I had 30 minutes to kill and I was hungry~ I’ve been having these crazy sushi binges but I didn’t want to be late for the movie. So I came to this place. From the looks of the restaurant(or booth~ whatever you want to call it~) it makes you feel like ehhhhh~ I am not too sure about this place~ esp since you have to seat yourself by a countertop and order sushi through the window and the sushi chefs are non-asian~ however, the sushi was surprisingly not bad! it’s not awesome~~ or great~~~ but it’s not too shabby either! I say give it a go, if you want a quick sushi fix in promenade area!

–sigh– shopping mall sushi shogun sushi…(alliteration). The set up here is interesting. It sort of reminds me of a prison the way food/money has to be passed through a numbered window. It’s a bit bizarre. We sat down and the staff was ready to take care of us. My dining partner and I ordered a salmon sushi w/avocado, a philadelphia roll, an omega 3 roll and a sushi shogun roll, plus our waters. After placing our order the sushi chef inside the prison cell across from us told us that the shogun roll would take 20 minutes. I agreed that it was fine but that does seem like an awfully long time… Then he says to me that he can’t do the avocado on my salmon. He did not say that he could add the avocado for an extra fee(which I’m used to), he just said no. I asked him, «Well do you have avocado.» He agreed they did. And then I said, «But you can’t just cut some and put it on my salmon?» He said ‘no.’ I made it clear that I would be fine paying a little more for the avocado and he was unmoved. Then some other guy showed up and said he would do it for me but just /this/time. Like I was asking for something really crazy! From many years in the hospitality industry I know that if I can do it for you I will. When a customer asks for something(within reason) you try to make it happen. This was ridiculous. Eventually we did have all our sushi(extra avocado included GASP) and we ate it. The salmon was pretty sub par. My friend enjoyed his Philadelphia roll and what I shared of the Shogun Roll. I asked for a side of spicy mayo and ended up having to pay extra for that(that has never happened to me). The Shogun Roll was okay. It seemed like it took 20 minutes because they were burning it. The rice on the bottom of the plate was crispy from being burnt. Hmmm… The Omega 3 roll was decent. It wasn’t as spicy as I had anticipated it would be. All in all the experience we had here was bleak. The bill was something around $ 40 for this very uninspired sushi experience. I could have walked down the street and had very awesome sushi for about $ 48 total. Next time I’ll shell out the extra $ 8 and have me some righteous raw fish.

The sushi here is not that bad. It’s in the food court at third street promenade. I came here and got a roll with shrimp tempura, avocado, yellowtail, and some other stuff. The rice was kind of chewy. The roll was good. Crunchy. I think they added extra tempura crumbs into the roll. It came out to $ 12. Kind of pricey. You could get the same thing from the Fishlips truck for around $ 8! Their tap water was horrible tasting. It tasted kind of like beer water. Definitely a funny taste to it. You have to try it to believe it. :)

3.5 stars for me! My sister and niece are visiting from Taiwan and we took them to 3rd street promenade to walk abound and shop. However, when we first arrived, they were hungry, so we took a look at the restaurants and ended up trying Sushi Shogun. My niece wanted Subway, but my sister talked her out of that(Yes!). It’s a counter only place and can only fit about 15 people at the counter. The food is prepared in the kitchen right in front of you right after you order. I got the chicken bento box($ 8.95) which came with chicken(white meat) teriyaki, white rice, salad, tempura(3 pieces of veggies and 1 shrimp), and three piece california roll. All the food was tasty and surprisingly good. It was a pleasant surprise given the looks of the small food court. Overall, a good, quick, inexpensive lunch! Xie Xie!!!
