Worst customer service. Literally took order, took money, then Eddie/“security«counted us down to closing five minutes later. „4 minutes!“ As he stood, stared…» Insanely rude and uncomfortable. Anthony(manager) was worst of all, telling our apologetic bartender to dismiss us. Whole experience was anything but the 20 minutes of beautiful full-moon experience we hoped for. Beyond obnoxious and rude and uncalled for. We were paying, kind customers and they treated us like pains in ass that Paid For it! There are WAY too many other places with an amazing night awaiting and kind customer-service oriented people. Sad we wasted ours. Will NEVER return.

View is obviously beautiful but the place really needs a face lift. Drinks are ok and capacity was soso. I’m looking for a posh, elegant upscale lounge/restaurant.

Rude. Stuck Up. Overpriced. Every time I walk up to the bouncers on the bottom floor, they say they are at capacity and it will be about 30 minutes. Then I slip them a $ 20, and they let my group right up. I decided not to slip them a $ 20 this time because I’m tired of them lying about capacity when I KNOW it’s empty up there as all of my friends are up there already. I eventually was told I can’t go upstairs because I was«rude». I used no profanities, didn’t raise my voice, just gave them my info on knowing when to go up. I worked in the nightlife industry for 3 years, so I know how these things work, and what they’re doing isn’t working. My groups are always even ratio or better with all good looking folks. I just grew tired of tipping the incompetent doormen.

Love this place for the view, staff, food and drinks! The only downside is that I wish it was bigger since it can get a bit crowded and view is just so amazing!

Great place to enjoy a beautiful view from the rooftop! Pretty good selection of scotch and bourbon and a great place to sit out, light your favorite cigar and let it all float away. Decent bar food as well.

Had a really good time here on a Friday night. Here’s why you should visit this rooftop penthouse bar even if you’re not staying at the hotel: 1. The hotel is gorgeous! It might be a protected Art Deco historic landmark, I dunno. But it is just beautiful, all the little details from back in the day. 2. The roof top with an stunning view of the beach right below, and the Pier. Probably one of the best Photo Ops in all of Santa Monica. Bring your friends from out of town, or bring a date. Perfect spot for date night. Different, romantic, really nothing like it. 3. As of recently, at least on wekeends; AMAZING music by a great new DJ named Jay. Great music really sets the mood, and the stuff he plays truly compliments the extraordinary location so if you love good songs with your mojitos and are sick and tired of run-of-the-mill hip-hop, this is the place!

It’s a small, rooftop bar in an old-as-dirt hotel. But it’s got a great view and good drinks and more importantly, no beach bums. Nothing like a doorman and an elevator to screen out the undesirables. If you’re in Santa Monica, you should definitely come here to catch a sunset or the pier lighting up at night over a Moscow Mule. Although the space is small, it didn’t get too crowded because most people don’t know about it. I’m actually surprised there aren’t more rooftop bars/lounges in Santa Monica. Until there is, Shangri LA’s Suite 700 is the only game in town.

Happy Hour is not until 7p, it is until 6p and they will not honor the fact that their website is «updating». Which coming from website design, is not very difficult to change one character on the website. Also, the waiter will leave you to serve other people if you pause to take a look down at the menu to see what your drink is called, pause to question your order, or even breathe. And spoiler alert, there was barely anyone there so a busy crowd was not an excuse. I’d go to Hotel Erwin, Shutters, or The Huntley over this place. It doesn’t matter if you are willing to spend your entire paycheck, they’ll still treat you like dirt.

Sunset Sippin’ Ambiance: Pretty chill environment… Definitely a good place to catch with friends or bring a date to catch the sunset with. Drinks: Shangri-la Mojito vs. Cucumber Gimlet, Shangri-la Mojito wins by a landslide! The Shangri-la Mojito was light and refreshing but did nothing for me. It is an alcoholic drink after all, I was expecting more alcohol and less soda. The Cucumber Gimlet tasted bland and watered down… not worth $ 14. Service: Super slow… waited like 20 minutes for a drink. The male bartender was also obviously tending to the female patrons more and straight up ignoring the males which I thought was pretty unfair. ** Tip: Saw security turn away people wearing FLIPFLOPS, so keep this is mind if you are hitting this place up. Final Verdict: This place does have a spectacular view of the sunset, beach and pier. I’ll give this place another chance.

Not a bad view of the ocean, you’re literally a street away from the beach. You have to take the elevator up to the top. Bartenders make the drinks pretty well and strong but prices are pretty expensive. Outside they have a nice window sectioned off area which is pretty cool to avoid all the high winds but that gets filled quickly. The entire rooftop is very cozy, and cozy i mean small. If it gets cold, you’ll probably want to lounge inside. I would come on a sunny less windy day.

I had been meaning to go here for so long and it did not disappoint! I’m surprised this place has such low reviews, it’s probably going down as one of my favorite places in Santa Monica. There can be a line to get in, but we didn’t have to wait very long at all. The bar is located inside the Shangri-La hotel and is a very cute and cozy place. There is a ton of seating available both inside and out, and you have an amazing view of Santa Moncia from outside of the pier and everything. the drinks were very yummy and not crazy overpriced. Service was friendly and I felt comfortable just doing my own thing. Music was so on point. I don’t know if there was a DJ or if they just have this set playlist, but they were playing all these really good pop & hip hop songs that weren’t too mainstream so it was a nice change of pace from other bars and clubs in the area. Some people were dancing, and if I was a bit more hydrated I probably would have been dancing too, but I’ll save that for another time. Overall, definitely a very nice, classy and fun area in Santa Monica, and I highly recommend checking it out!

I almost don’t want to tell you all about this little place! Suite 700 us a penthouse rooftop bar right across the street from Santa Monica Beach. There are indoor and outdoor sections, and the outdoor seating gets packed before sunset. Thus, service is slow. I’ve been a handful of times for Thursday happy hour. It’s nice to bring a friend but not a group – you’d have to worry about getting space together and might not be successful.

Weak drinks, strange set up, no fire or ample heating for a rooftop bar. Not worth the 20 minute wait, no desire to return.

Nice rooftop bar in Santa Monica at the top of the Shangri-La hotel. Great views include Santa Monica and the beach and pier. There is some nice seating and tables to enjoy the upstairs and outdoor weather. On a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, it is a great place to spend the day. The exterior décor has a bit of a Miami feel. There can occasionally be a line and they often will not let people in despite having plenty more room. However, the lines compared to The Bungalow are nowhere near as bad(and often there are none). Also a plus is that they offer weekday happy hour. My only real gripe is the high price for drinks, but that is to be expected given the rooftop setting.

This can not be a real ShangriLa. The rooftop bar is just like regular beach café but not more. They even don’t have a hard liquer menu and instead a handwritten paper was shown by the waitress for visky selection and it was harly readable. The panaromic view of the beach and the ocean though is beautiful. You can also see the Santa Monica Pier. Also you can smoke your cigar and in my case it was the deal. The surrounded fences of the roof is so awful! This is not what you expect from a rooftop of a ShangrLa Hotel!!!

Avoid! This place is horrible!!! I decided to take my girlfriend here for her birthday and tried to make reservation one month before we go. I called and they said,“no need to make reservations, you’ll be fine if you get here by 3pm”. Perfect, right??? NOPE!!! I invited 7 of our closest friends and told them all to arrive at 3pm. As a good host, I arrive at 3pm and get informed, «it’s an hour wait.» WTH!!! I told them about the situation and it’s my gf bday but they didn’t apologize or give a crap. I asked if we can at least sit in the empty hotel restaurant and they said, «reservations only»… Remind you, I tried making reservations a month ago!!! Bottom line… HORRIBLESERVICE! RUDESTAFF!!! WORSTPLACEEVER!!! Trust me… DONTGO!

This place has a 180 degree amazing view of Santa Monica, Ocean Blvd and the Pacific Ocean. This bar/hideaway is located on the 7th floor of a boutique Santa Monica hotel, Shangri LA. The hotel itself is a boutique building and subject to city planning restrictions because of its historic building designation. That really is the charm of this place. You can really get a feel of the 1950s Santa Monica when you walk into this place. The doors and corridors are small and cute. The elevators are also tiny and have not been changed since the building was erected. The only problem is that upstairs their food menu I’d limited. It really is a bar with small plates. However, you can take your children with you to enjoy the view, at least till 9pm. Not bad for when you are enjoying a small drink, appetizers and quality time with the family. This place is definitely worth visiting!

I had a blast here. Absolutely beautiful view. Happy hour was great. Delicious food . I was sooo happy with the fish tacos. Our servers name is jeniffer. She’s really attentive and amazing. Price of drinks are not that cheap but then again, most drinks in LA are not cheap. This is a good lounge to hang out with friends. Very relaxing and the view is exquisite.

Great date place for some drinks. They have a charming outside rooftop area with stringed lights and lots of seating. If it’s cold outside, there is lots of space inside too. Additionally, the drinks are great, and perfectly strong! Been here several times, and it has had a cool vibe every time.

Bar on the Shangri La roof top. Easy to get in. No lines, no bullshit. Beautiful views of the ocean and Santa Monica! Pricey drinks but they taste good and are legit cocktails. DJ on weekends. Great for day or night drinks. My recommendation: Bungalow is super trendy right now, but why wait in a 2 hour line when you can come here? It’s just as classy and fun but without the awful line.

Perfect date place. Period. This says a lot coming from a person who has been on a lot of dates! The bar opens at 4pm and you have to get there right on time in order to get great seats outside. There is one table with two chairs that is sandwiched between two heat warmers. It isn’t by any other tables and it’s quite the romantic spot. These seats are in perfect view of the ocean and are perfect for watching the sunset. Luckily, my date was there right when it opened and he reserved the table for us. The view was absolutely gorgeous and we watched the sunset while sipping on some cocktails. The only thing that killed the mood was the fact that all the other people who didn’t get there on time were standing right in front of us taking selfies and enjoying the view as well. It’d be nice if it wasn’t so crowded, but with a view like that, of course it’s going to attract a lot of people! Given we came here in the middle of winter, It’s freezing when you’re up on the rooftop. The two heaters sandwiching us were almost as good as nothing, as the wind was blowing the heat away from us. I was so cold it felt like my nose was gonna fall off. The chill factor makes it great for snuggling up close to someone, if you know what I mean ;P(told you it was the perfect date place!). We ended up going inside afterwards and chose the seats that were next to a fireplace. There are also other seats outside that are enclosed by transparent walls that allow you to see the view as well. These seats allow for a larger party, definitely not intimate, but perfect for groups. Check this place out! The view is breathtaking!
