Shawn’s Christmas Trees

Shawn’s had a great selection of trees, even on weekend before Christmas. The process was really smooth. The trees were beautiful and the staff was super helpful. We ended up picking a beautiful 7″ Noble tree that was $ 85 + $ 15 for the stand. The stand was already mounted on our tree, as well as on all the trees that were on display. That makes it super easier once you arrive home. The staff who helped us get the tree atop our car did a great job and we were off the lot with our beautiful tree in less than 25 min. Owner mentioned they might not have this Santa Monica location next year, as plans are in the works to build an apartment building on the lot. But will definitely consider driving a longer distance to get to one of his other lots next year. Really recommend Shawn’s Christmas Trees!

I’ve never been put in charge of securing the family Christmas tree before, but Shawn’s made this whole process quite seamless and hassle-​free — even for a first-​timer.
Not sure why everyone seems to have had such a difficult tree-​buying experience here…

— In addition to available parking in the neighborhoods near Shawn’s, there are also about ten or so spaces available parking spaces on the tree lot — we had no trouble at all securing one of these spots.
— From there, it was simply a matter of wandering through the lot and deciding on which tree we would be going with. There were plenty to choose from, from miniature trees that’ll work out just fine for a small office setup, to Rockefeller-​esque giants that would look just dandy in your Brentwood mansion. Holiday music from the radio is played throughout the lot, ensuring that the atmosphere of cheer remains in full swing!
The trees are priced pretty fairly, as well. The Douglas Fir that we ended up selecting was about $ 45 + an additional $ 15 for a tree stand.

— I didn’t find the checkout process to be a hassle at all — can’t really say as to why so many others did. The employees who helped us were gracious and friendly — especially the fella who helped us secure the tree to our car. While I didn’t get his name, he was very friendly and definitely knew what he was doing (which I very much appreciated). Thanks to his help, the process of securing the tree to our car took only about 5 – 10 minutes.
(And in case you were wondering, a Prius can, in fact, defy the odds and carry a Christmas tree.)
Glad we went against Unilocal’s recommendations on this one! Goes to show you that it’s okay to go out on a limb sometimes.

Great tree! Gregory was so great! I told him my price range and that I was looking for a fragrant tree and he literally found the one. Cut it open for me and checked price to make sure it was what I wanted. So helpful. They have a huge bucket of branches cut for decorating for free which I love.
As for check out woman. Very nice– she made change for me so I could tip. Maybe she changed her ways but overall I am coming back next year. I was so pleased with my purchase.

Can I give no stars, better yet they owe me a star. The people helping us on the lot were very nice and helpful but the women at the checkout is horrible. The tree was tagged as 7−8ft which it was but she kept making the worker remeasure the tree and was going to charge me for a 8−9ft which is $ 40 more. All the workers kept telling her it was a 7−8ft but she kept arguing with all of us. I picked out another tree tagged 7 – 8 and she tried again to overcharge me. I told her we were leaving and she just kept arguing. As we left the workers were apologizing about her and told us she is trying to squeeze every dollar out of every customer. Do yourself a favor a avoid this lot and all cost.

While most of the guys who actually help you with your tree are quite nice, the two women who run this place are unthinkably rude and incredibly unhelpful. They truly act like they’re doing you a favor by taking your money. The first year we tried to buy a tree here, we ended up going elsewhere because they were the only place in town that wouldn’t knock even a dollar off full price on the night of Christmas Eve, when every other place was getting rid of trees for half price. We tried again this year, and I’m still filled with bitter regret that I gave them my business. Not only do they treat their employees poorly, they’re rude to their customers. And not «this lady has probably had a pretty rough day» kind of rude. The kind of rude that’s pathological and crazy. I don’t know how the two of these women found each other, but they really don’t need to be working in any field that involves customer service.
Please don’t give them your money. There are so many other tree places nearby that are run by people who are actually happy to have your business (not to mention places that contribute percentages to a worthwhile cause). These mean-​spirited women don’t deserve your business.

Shawn’s tree assistance staff were very kind and accommodating. However, the women at the check out were very rude and talked down to the staff in front the customers. When I went to pay, the women at the check out began to argue with the guy that helped me and made him remeasure the tree twice. They reprimanded him right in front of me. It was a very awkward and off putting experience. I will definitely be looking into other options for next year. The nice cheery tree guy even recommended I sign up for their mailing list to save $$ on a tree next year, but I don’t think even want to use the discount.
The tree lot lacks adequate parking, but I would give the tree guys a solid rating and would definitely come back for their help. However, the posh women at the register and their attitudes were enough to put a damper on my holiday cheer.
Overall, I would recommend looking into another lot. However, if you want to chance it, the tree guys will definitely be able to help you out :) I just hope you don’t encounter such a negative experience.
