This location of Joan’s on third is a little smaller than the one on third street. It has more of a modern, bright feel and reminds me of a bakery, not as much of a market like the other location. I enjoy the atmosphere a little less at this location just because it’s less busy. They also have a bit of a smaller selection of food. The main menu is the same but the other fresh foods they sell are limited. Unfortunately they did not have the mini baguette sandwiches we love so much. Nevertheless the food here is just as wonderful as at the location on third street, and I sampled their ice cream for the first time which was delicious! The mint chocolate was the winner. For lunch we had the veggie sandwich and a short rib grilled cheese sandwich, both were great as usual. The veggie is so big that it’s a little difficult to eat though. We also tried the flourless chocolate roll which was super rich but delicious, sort of like a chocolate mousse in a roll form. Parking at this location can be a bit tricky especially when everyone’s trying to go to the beach, so you may have to walk a little unless you find street parking right outside.

We have heard this place is good from a couple of people. Today is Father’s Day and I thought it would be nice to go there since we were walking by with the dog. The one star is for patio seating with dogs. I finally found a menu by the confusing resister layout and we ordered the corn beaf hash and an omelet and coffee. I asked for water from the very uninterested girl at the counter and she just said water is by the door. Well there are at least 3 doors and of course it was the other end of the place. We sat outside and the coffee finally came. Then the food finally came. John’s omelet was cold and my 2.00 egg over easy was basically a poached hard boiled egg. Who does that on corned beaf?! We never ever send things back but for almost 30.00. we sent the omelet back and I asked for a poached egg. 10 minutes later my egg came … Slightly under hard boiled and then a few minutes later the omelet came cold and tasteless again. Too bad we had to pay ahead of time. We spoke the the girl at he register who still didn’t give a crap. She offered to refund the omelet but we said no and left. Her attitude sucked from start to finish. Never again. Sorry Joan :(

Severely overpriced, confusing layout, slow to get just a coffee. Seems to have a lot of turnover and no one knows where to go — staff and customers alike. You pay for the beach location and the severe lack of quick food options in the area. Joan’s was smart about that at least. Only recently found out that it’s a fake Joan’s which really makes me unhappy to pay their high prices.

JOANs. I’ve missed you. I’ve had Joans at another location and their chinese chicken salad has me coming back! We got the salad, some chicken wings, mac and cheese, and some potato wedges. It sounds so basic but DAMN, everything was SO delicious. They had an assortment of hot foods at the front. I was contemplating getting a sandwich but we went with a bunch of sides to try everything. The service was great and everyone was SUPER friendly. We will definitely come back to this location again!

Nice hipster feel to this little market. Only stopped by along my walk from Venice to Santa Monica and needed something to drink in the scorching hot sun. I ordered their Arnold Palmer and it was a little too sweet for me(was already pre-made) and their iced coffee is highly acidic!

I came here with a friend for lunch and was immediately wondering why I hadn’t been here yet… I know there are multiple locations, and this place is right up my alley. It sort of reminded me of Mendocino Farms, in that you can order salads and sandwiches from the counter and have it brought out to you(or take it to go), but they also have many already prepared salads and sandwiches if you’re in a hurry. We both had the southwestern salad, and were given a table number that we brought outside to our table on the patio. Our orders were quickly brought out to us(and dishes cleared quickly once we were finished). The salads were HUGE! Seriously it was probably one of the biggest salads I’d ever had. It wasn’t the greatest salad ever, but it was yummy and I still ate all of it and enjoyed it. If you’re still hungry, there are plenty of sweet options inside for dessert. I didn’t try anything from the bakery, but plan to in the future. They have macarons, muffins, cookies, etc. and everything looked delicious.

Got turkey meatballs, sesame chicken wings, cool, korean short rib, chicken bacon brie, short rib sandwich was pretty good, salmon cake was the best item of the bunch. Great location and ambience though — i would try again to see if maybe there are other things on the menu that grab me… :)

Preeettyyy good food. I’ve only been here once but I’ve heard many good things about it… though I actually didn’t think that did me any favors, cos it was good but didn’t quite meet those expectations. Ordered the ever so popular short rib sandwich, which was like. just under 15 bucks I think? It may be acceptable to charge someone that kinda money for a sandwich in Santa Monica, but damn lol I’m not sure I’m down wid it. And it’s not like it came with any fries or anything… lol. HOWEVER… expensive as it was, it was quite good. I know why people like it so much. The caramelized onions were def necessary. It was delicious and the short rib was saucy and flavorful, though it was a bit greasy. The bread was nicely toasted and yummy, but perhaps… too much butter(or oil or something)?? I couldn’t eat it without getting my hands all fucked up lol. It comes with a small side of pickles, which were good palate cleanser after each bite of sandwich. Actually they were really good on their own just to snack on. I also got to try the strawberry cream puff, which was actually really good! The cream filling was amazing, but the puff pastry could be flakier. Theirs is a bit doughy, but not a problem. Still a tasty little treat. The store itself is also like… a market or something lol. They have a bunch of stuff you can buy, like snacks, candies, desserts, etc etc etc. They’ve got too many things you can buy lol. My friend also enjoyed a fried chicken sandwich, and I thought it was pretty good too. Really though, this place is pretty good. I just don’t think it was anything extraordinary and not really worth all that money LOL. But that’s just me. This place is pretty popular though, so they must be doin something right.

I’m not a fan of places where you stand in line to order and pay… The staff seemed confused this am.(Maybe they needed stronger coffee) I asked where the water was… etc. They seemed confused… Anyway. I ordered the egg whites and fruit. my friend had the fruit. He told me about the fried egg sandwhich, but did not order it. LOL.(I rollerbladed from the Marina to this location) I have to try more things. But again, I like being waited on… So I will be back probably in Nov for the AFM.(American film market) but I don’t think before that… Its not that amazing to me… Better places in SM.

Cute interior and vibes. Great for a casual, nice brunch with friends or a date. The pancakes were on-point. A bit on the pricey end, but overall good place!

So happy to have a JOT in SaMo! Inside and outside seating with loads to choose from on the menu. Great place for a lunch meeting or for just grabbing a bite with a friend. The short rib grilled cheese is amazeballz and the chicken Caesar salad is definitely large enough for two.

$ 18 for a Fried Chicken Sandwich and a tiny bottle of Orangina. Pricey, and it might have been worth it if the fried chicken had any fried chicken batter on it. But, I’m willing to admit that maybe I made the mistake by assuming fried meant deep fried, when it actually meant pan fried. I also tried the Turkey Meatloaf Sandwich on a baguette. That was a much more delicious sandwich. The meatloaf was soft, tender, juicy, and delicious. The side of housemade pickles served with every sandwiches are a wonderful compliment. The fried chicken sandwich was more of a 2-star sandwich, while the meatloaf was more of a 4-star sandwich. Hence, the overall 3– star rating. The proximity to the courthouse is a big plus, but not an extra star worth of convenience.

One of my favorite meals of my trip!!! Everything tasted fresh and on point. Short Rib Sandwich(4⁄5): SUPER yummy!!! Kinda greasy so I brought it down to a four. I shared this with a friend, so I don’t think I would be able to eat the whole sandwich by myself. But I loved it. Salad trip(5⁄5): You get to choose 3 deli salads and put it on top a bed of lettuce. We had the kale salad that had spicy peanuts(DELICIOUS), curry salad(DELICIOUS), and one of the pasta salad types(DELICIOUS). A great balance to my short rib sandwich. Chocolate cookie(6⁄5): I brought this home and it was a day old. I popped it in the microwave and it was still one of the best chocolate cookies I’ve ever had. Slight crisp outside and iterlaly melts in your mouth. WORTHIT Lemon rosemary cookies(4⁄5): Very unique flavor. It was more of a shortbread type cookie so it went well with coffee or tea. Mini Éclair(4⁄5): Delicious and pretty light for an éclair! Would get again. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. Would love to come back again.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am a HUGEFAN of Joan’s On Third, but the owners of this location should be ashamed of themselves. This location is not at all affiliated with the real Joan’s On Third’s located on 3rd Street in Los Angeles, and Studio City. Instead, this location copied the trademark, market appearance, and many other elements of the original brand. This is unethical, deceptive, and unfair to all of your customers. Now, because I still really like this place, I’ll be generous and give this review 3 stars. I love the market, bakery, and food items. It’s all great, just not as great as the real thing. The market is still trendy and has a fantastic selection, BUT I strongly urge the owners to do the right thing and change the name, or at least post signs both in the store and on the website to make it very clear to all customers that you are not affiliated with the original. Anyone who works in the restaurant industry knows it’s not any easy business! Joan McNamara is known as «an entrepreneur, tastemaker, chef, founder and curator of all things Joan’s on Third», and she used her talents to create something that is one of a kind, and spectacular. It’s very unfair that her brilliant idea was copied, or should I say stolen without permission. This location has a lot of potential, but needs to make it right and be honest to its customers.

Fried egg sandwich was a-ok. The fried egg was perfectly runny but the Canadian bacon didn’t hold well enough to balance the flavor in my opinion. I think I would prefer a sausage patty maybe? Idk Had a bite of my friends short rib sandwich though and that thing is money. So good! Definitely on the heavy side, as in a food coma waiting to happen haha. I would recommend ordering this if its your first time here. Cute décor!

I really wanted to like this place. Great location, lots of hype, walking distance from my apartment. So much potential! Ambiance: new-aged deli/market. Not cozy or welcoming but very clean. Pretty busy. You order at the counter, take a number and take a seat. Outdoor and indoor seating. Service: You’ll have minimal interaction with the staff here. I remember waiting a while for my food and they gave it to me to-go when I ordered it to eat in. Food: Meh. I probably ordered 8 things and nothing blew me away. Mostly everything on the menu is to be served cold. I had the egg salad sandwich(not seasoned and on really tough ciabatta) and a pasta salad that was all dried out. Don’t even remember what else I ordered because it was so unmemorable. They have Juice Served Here juices which was a nice surprise. Prices: too much for the style of the restaurant. If this place was traditional sit-down style, it would be acceptable. I won’t be coming back unless I get a really good recommendation.

3 ½ stars. Arrived on a Friday morning. I parked at Third Street promenade parking structure where parking is complimentary for 90 minutes. I’ve been wanting to try Joan’s for the longest time at their sister eatery and just happen to stumble upon this location which is located across the street from the JW Marriott La Merigot. l was checking out the hotel because I booked a five night stay upcoming. Being It was a beautiful morning — I opted for the patio seating. I first had to place my order at the inside counter and selected the corned beef hash, side of bacon, French toast and coffee. The quality was exceptional but I was disappointed that the corn beef didn’t include potatoes, toast and only came with one egg. Don’t get me wrong I felt the food was above average, but I didn’t like the layout of ordering at the counter and having no personal service and felt the menu items were pricy for what you receive in food and service. The location is a tourist spot and Joan’s can get the prices they’re charging — since the hotels are equally if not higher priced. Out of curiosity, I checked out the menu for the Los Angeles location and noticed the prices looked identical.
