David Geffner, MD FACP FACE

Dr Geffner was great in every way! I ended up with him after another doctor in that same ucla practice would not return my calls about test results, after I called 7 times. Please know that you have the right to change docs if you don’t like how you are treated!

I had high hopes following my appointment but he did not call me back with my lab results, and the nurses refused to give them to me! I must have left 7 messages until I finally got a response — TWO months after my blood levels were drawn! Totally unacceptable, and pretty standard for this practice from what other patients have told me since.

After 7 or more years suffering, and being misdiagnosed, and even think that I was going crazy, I found by serendipity Dr Geffner, UCLA (which is an awful place, the worse place with doctors ever). However, he is one of the few Doctors that is a TRUE Clinician.
If you have a thyroid condition or disease, do hesitate to go to a endocrinologists that only see Diabetes. They only see, when you mention your symptoms mood disorders. And the thyroid is not an easy thing and blood tests are not the only thing, that could indicate a thyroid problem, mine were always normal, however I had all the symptoms, that of course other lay doctors just deemed mood disorders, only in 5 minutes they have contact with me. You need the tests, but doctors NEED to listen to your symptoms… to make a proper diagnosis.
I have something that it does not fall in anything my blood test were ok, But my symptoms were HORRIBLE and other doctors never listened, or they keep sending me to a bunch of specialists and giving me a bunch of medicines! Other doctors ever see or take into account the symptoms that makes the difference. My TSH was off, but really listening to my symptoms and to others that they just deemed non important (well they were the important ones!) my symptoms were determinant. And yes when Getting the Iodine Reuptake exam (The second one) I needed a thyroid ablation.
The other Dr in San Diego, wellI I have to request the test, almost saying hey i pay my insurance, and i will go to another doctor to get that test done, and still the guy never address my symptoms, or anything.
So really if you get to a point that you know that there are things that are beyond the same you are anxious, or depressed, or you are not happy with an endocrinologist saying «Go and do Yoga», (but never see your pulse, or see if you have tremors, or other things that are off, no wonder I could never sleep or «I have anxiety»)
He cares and is compassionate. And believe me knows a lot about thyroid, and things other doctors maybe just apply a cooking recipe? Other doctors just kept telling me, that it was subclinical! or that I have something that it was not, and never listened to the SYMPTOMS, the tests are not the only thing to diagnose. So if you keep feeling bad read the clinical interest of the doctors. The ones putting first diabetes, and fertility, will just apply the rule of the blood test, and will not listen to you, or just say, go to the therapist that is a mood disorder, or you can’t feel that because your blood tests are in the normal range… It took me 7 years, even believing i was going crazy. But At least I found doctor geffner.

I’ve seen many endocrinologist but none compare to the care and compassion of Dr. Geffner.

Dr. Geffner was great to talk to at my appointment. He spent time with me, discussing my issues, and then ordered blood tests.
The reason for the one star is he refused to call me back with blood test results. I called repeatedly for 3 days, leaving messages with everyone I could and he has still not called me back despite the test being done over a week ago (as we go into a weekend, so another 2 days of not knowing what’s wrong). This is negligent. It’s not like im calling to ask him stupid questions, I am calling for my blood test results that I desperately need and am entitled to. You don’t want a doctor like this.

If you are not responding to synthroid or cytomel I would not got to see Dr. Geffner. He bases his thyroid tests solely off of TSH and is not open to trying compounded or desiccated thyroid. Also you should know that all of the doctors in this practice ascribe to the same beliefs. I hope I’ve saved you some time. I’ve spent years with undiagnosed hypothyroidism and it was not fun.
