I am very perplexed by the negative reviews given this beachside restaurant. I have been eating there for over 15 years and have yet to have a complaint. I find their hamburgers delicious. The black bean hamburger is also a fabulous meat alternative. The sweet potato fries are yummy as well. The date shake is a MUST. Once I was a bit short of money for the bill. The gentleman who served me was very forgiving and kind about it. I immediately went back the next day to repay what I owed. Please folks visit this Mom and Pop establishment and taste some really good stuff. It’s a menu one expects when going to the beach.

My girlfriend and I went on an impromptu jog down to the Santa Monica Pier. I just moved to the area and have never done a beach run in 80 degree weather and I was feeling a little bit like I was going to pass out from heat exhaustion. I couldn’t find a public drinking fountain on the pier so I decided to ask the closest café… Carousel Café… for a small cup of water. I know I wasn’t a paying customer so I was really shy to ask for a cup of water but I really needed it because I didn’t feel well. I would have bought a water bottle but I didn’t have my wallet on me since our run was impromptu. I was so shocked when the lady behind the counter replied to me that she wouldn’t give me water because she would have to run the water to make it cold and doesn’t want to because California is in a drought. Wow. Needless to say I am writing this review. I believe Carousel Café needs to rethink their priorities.
