just came here 8:50 and girl at the counter looked a bit caught off guard to see me so i asked if it was too late to order and she said yes even though they say they are open until 9. Then a big truck pulls up and a guy went in and ordered food(i went into the CVS next door) and after about 13 minutes he came out with an order. Do i need to be more intimidating or something? that pisses me off… 4 star Hawaiian food, one star for that bs… Ill round it to 2 stars lol…

I always get the teriyaki chicken combo. Good food, good portions, and good value. The combo is $ 8.30 out the door, delicious, and I’ve only finished it all in one sitting once. The restaurant is always clean and the girls there are cute and nice.

Food is great don’t get me wrong, love the portions and the food itself. However on April 18, 2016 me and my buddies decided to enjoy the food there, we got there at around 8:28 and placed our order. Long story short, we didn’t get our food until 8:54 they then told us they closed at 9 and pretty much kicked us out with a to go order when we got a dine in option. They offered no apology, or a simple ‘sorry for the wait’ Good manners go a long wait, and when you’re not apologetic about your mistakes, not even the qualityof food can prevent a bad review.

I grade a Hawaiian bbq on the Mac salad, Musubi and flavor of meat. Great service and friendly staff here Musubi had too much rice and spam wasn’t cooked right or rice not seasoned right. Flavor was blah. BBQ mixed plate– beef was wonderful, chicken had good flavor but dry, Kalbi was delicious.

Tried for the first time tonight. We got here around 6:15 and after we ordered the line grew and was pretty consistent. They only have one register. 2 might be a better idea if it gets that busy often. We ordered the shrimp and the chicken and shrimp plates. Both meals came with a huge amount of food. The shrimp meal came with 8 large shrimp. The chicken and shrimp came with 4 shrimp and a large serving of chicken. The shrimp was delicious. The chicken was very tender and had great flavor. Rice was just rice. Macaroni salad was very good. Not too tangy. Very reasonable prices. Less than $ 8 for each plate. Nice cashier. Will definitely be back.

The food is great. The cashier was very helpful deciding what to order. We got #24(shirt ribs, teriyaki chicken, and bbq pork) and it included steamed rice and macaroni salad. Everything is flavorful. I’m glad we found this place for a quick bite.

Plates are very well served and have enough meat. Macaroni salad is good and doesn’t have an overwhelming onion flavor. Short ribs are my favorite

Every time I go back to CA I try to get Hawaiian food, so when I was driving from LA to SF I intentionally stopped at D & A Hawaiian BBQ. I ordered the BBQ mix so I could sample everything — the portion is very generous. The meats are grilled tenderly and not fatty like L & L — I devoured everything but my favorite was the short ribs. Macaroni salad was good and I loved how they had a material amount of vegetables too. There’s also some sauces including soy and siracha to put on top. Fountain and bottled drinks are available. There’s a TV on in the background and various tables to sit in — some have plugs which are nice if you need to charge a phone. Service was friendly though it did take a little longer than I expected to receive my order. I wish there was a location in the city I currently live in!

Meh. We were limited on choices because it was New Years Day. Passing through and stayed overnight, so we thought we’d check it out. I got the chicken katsu and short rib combo. It was alright. The katsu was overbreaded and had less meat than batter. This made it taste more like fried chicken than katsu. The short ribs were good, bit on the gristly and fatty side but otherwise good tasting. Can’t mess up Hawaiian mac salad either. Husband got the chicken combo. He liked it, but he also likes cafeteria food. The place looks ghetto… and trust me, I grew up in Vallejo so I know ghetto. And to add onto it, they water down their katsu sauce and teriyaki sauce. What. The. Eff. Ghetto. Anyway, I know Hawaiian food. We frequent Maui. I’ll never say anything bad about San Diego Hawaiian food joints again. We got it good! I’d even take L&L over this. Sorry. Not sorry

This place was just basic. The area wasn’t too clean or organized. But again it wasn’t really dirty, I think they might need more staff to help clean. Now the food was very basic… taste like something I could make and home but I would add more flavor. It was ok to try but won’t be back here.

I was a bit iffy on coming here based on some of the negative reviews but I decided to give it a shot. Coming from the south bay I’ve had my share of Hawaiian food & this is pretty legit! The food is tastey with decent portions. I recommend you call in your order for quicker service. I mainly stick to the # 5 Hawaiian beef plate. Parking is provided

Fantastic service and the food was so good. Loved the atmosphere and it had great vibes. The cashier was friendly, helpful, patient and a really hard worker. I will definitely visit on a regular basis.

The food is good but I’m assuming the cashier has never been trained. When you give a cashier money generally they count it back to you so there is no problem with getting your change back. She ended up giving me my change wrong and argued with me when I pointed it out. It wasn’t worth arguing over a few dollars so I just let it go.

Out of all the Hawaiian bbq i have been to. This place is one of the best. They give you a ton of food for your money and they are in a good location.

Just ordered and ate takeout. Got the 4 piece fried shrimp and the chicken katsu and short rib combo. The combo comes with rice, macaroni salad, and some veggies. The friend shrimp was crispy, but heavily battered. It was almost as if they battered the sides of the shrimp to make them look larger than what they actually are. The short ribs was tasty, but one wasn’t really ribs but a huge, thick chunk of fat… Did not appreciate that. The chicken katsu was crispy, but again heavily battered. Service was quick and friendly. Not sure if I’ll be back due to the quality of food… I think that although Zoe’s Hawaiian is further south, more expensive, and slower service, it may be worth the wait…

This place is actually really delicious, and I prefer this place over Zoe’s anyday. I live on the OTHER side of town, a lot closer to Zoe’s and I will still make the drive to D&A. First of all, the prices are a lot more reasonable compared to Zoe’s. I spent $ 11+ on a combo+drink at Zoe’s, but when I go to D&A I spend about a little over $ 15+ for two drinks and two combo meals. That is a good deal! The quality of the hawaiian BBQ is so great too. I am never dissatisfied with my order. I usually get a teriyaki chicken combo plate and a chicken katsu combo plate. DELICIOUS! The Spam Musubi was yummy too. I absolutely love the macaroni salad, I always think about ordering extra, and I don’t. I definitely should next time. The thing that I’m not too a fan of is the decorations. There is hardly any, and the yellow color of the place hurts my eyes sometimes. So usually I would just take my food to go.

Being Hawaiian myself, I can say I was mildly saddened that there was no Kalua pork on the menu. That said, service was quick and friendly. We both got the daily special with BBQ chicken and teriyaki chicken. Those saying that the macaroni salad is kind of bland, that is exactly how it’s made on the islands. Macaroni, shaved carrot and mayo. All of our food was yummy! We will be back again for sure! This place is a simple dining experience. Nice change after a hectic day of errand running. Much Mahalo!

Typical casual Hawaiian plate lunch style restaurant serving rice + mac salad + a meat. Prices are reasonable, place is clean, and service is just order at the counter– so not much to say about it. I had the kalbi short ribs plate, 3 piece of ribs and large portion of rice and one scoop mac salad. I liked their mac salad! Not sure if they use the Hawaiian style of a bit of tuna in it or not, but it was tasty. I also liked that the meal came with some cabbage and carrots making it more filling and to add some vegetables! My husband had the chicken kastu plate and the chicken was a large portion, but the meat was too thin and there was a bit too much breading. The kalbi was definitely a better choice than the katsu. Overall, food was fine and cheap. Large portions and ate the other half the next day. It did take them a while to cook the food, nice that it’s hot, but considering they should only need to scoop the rice and mac salad, and fry the meat items, it shouldn’t really take a long time. Next time I would phone my order in.
