Small local bookstore with a café located in the Santa Fe Plaza is a great way to rest, grab a great cup of coffee and pastry from their pastry case(I happened to get their blue corn lavender donut and it is amaaaaazing.) Because it is smaller than any corporate bookstore, Collected Works makes use of their space by carefully selecting the items they sell and the attention and intent are very apparent. New Mexico history, art and novels by local writers are in the forefront of the shop. Tons of novelty gifts and a roomy café with fireplace and free Wi-Fi invites you to stay for awhile.

Sitting in an epic wooden rocking chair, I gaze into the crackling fireplace. I love different seating areas when I enter a coffee shop. If you need a new book, the staff will help you find a great one, and then you can pick a table or couch to enjoy a somewhat expensive coffee(only drawback… espresso is good but 3 $ for a single shot). I’m using the excellent wifi in the shop to write this post! ~~ Solid Santa Fe chill spot.

Wonderful collection, friendly and helpful staff and an enjoyable downtown atmosphere. Forget those online jerks, order from Collected Works what you can’t find here.

Really really good coffee. Freshly ground beans, great crema, meticulous barista. Thoroughly enjoyed our Americanos. Highly recommend.

Whenever I go into this store and the older woman is there I have a HORRIBLE customer service experience — strangely aggressive ?? From other customer reviews it sounds like she must be the owner. My interactions do not need to be bubble wrapped and full of fun — but you’re incredibly rude and it makes me not want to come into your store.

From my point of view, this is a really cool place to hang out and work. When I visited this place, I was trying to find a place to work and drink coffee while I was waiting for my next appointment. I was able to work, and while enjoying some new books.

I love this bookstore. They carry so many things, and you can meet the most interesting people here! Dorothy, the owner, is fabulous… and very involved in helping small and local authors grow. I cannot speak highly enough of how kind they have been to me, as an author myself.

Bookstore and coffeehouse on a great little street surrounded by galleries. The bookstore is actually much larger than it seems from the front and I like how the setup inside encourages browsing and reading. As a visitor to Santa Fe, I appreciated the section up front with great books on New Mexico as well as books by local authors.

This review is about the coffee at The Collected Works. Even though it is Iconik coffee, it is prepared in a way that does not taste like it should. We tried an Iced Americano which tasted watery and bitter. I tried a few sips and returned it for a regular brewed coffee… still watery. My wife had an almond milk macchiato which unfortunately tasted not that great as well. There are other places to have Iconik coffee that you will enjoy much better. Come here for the books and fresh pressed juice!

So happy I wondered into this place. So chill and good music. It reminds me of the way book shops use to be.

If I could give a zero I would. I don’t the people or the physical location but their online process and communication is horrible. I ordered a book online on 5÷13÷15. They did not mention it was not in stock. I called two weeks later and was told the books hadn’t been printed yet but would be ready by the end on May. On May 31st, the order status was changed to my order is waiting to be picked up by FedEx-This surprisingly does not mean that my order is ready to be picked up by FedEx. It means that the book had been printed. On 6÷6÷15 I called to find out what’s next and I was told that they were now working on back orders. I explained my frustration, the employee didn’t really care and we just agreed to cancel my order. I could have ordered the book from amazon a month ago and had it already. This type of run around is just one of the pitfalls of supporting local businesses.

A peaceful haven in a hectic world! Pleasant, knowledgable staff — I always check their Calendar of Events before heading to Santa Fe. One never knows what treasures are waiting!

So did we mention that in addition to a bookstore it’s an über cool local coffee house and now Verde juice are here. Wow. Come for the books, spend some money to keep this vital asset open but don’t leave without a Verde cold pressed local juice. Now we’re taking !

My all time favorite local bookstore in the US. When I’ve been traveling, I usually special order a book at Collected Works, so I can walk over from the airport shuttle. Take this as a tip if you are arriving as a guest to Santa Fe. You can special order a book and have it waiting for you when you get into town. Coffee bar service is slower than slow. Do not arrive here jonesing for caffeine. You will die waiting. That said, the coffee and espresso drinks are excellent. Worth waiting for, if you have the time. Just remember to put enough money in the parking meter. This is Santa Fe, you will get a ticket for an expired meter. The coffee bar service is slow, but attentive to the process of each brew. The pastries are local. If you are a guest to Santa Fe, you MUST get a Whoos Donut. Ideally, you will try the blue corn and lavender donut. Happy reading!

What a lovely bookstore. Helpful staff, good range of books, and a nice place to browse. I was in Santa Fe for work and wanted a nice book for the flight home – glad I came here!

Staff is wonderful. Coffee is delicious as are the pastries. A fabulous cozy atmosphere to kill a couple of hours on a chilly day. Very interesting selection of books and plenty of spots to settle in and read. Just such a hidden treasure in downtown sante fe.

This place sucks. They don’t have what their website represents that they have in stock, the areas aren’t very well organized, and their staff while apologetic aren’t all that helpful. Maybe you can get a good cup of coffee there but that wasn’t what i was looking for — move on — i am

Collected Works, you make it hard to like you. Your idiosyncratic book collection is tough to work with: come in search of a nonfiction, nonbiography title and you’re likely to strike out, but if you dig you can find some hidden gems. But what’s with the crazy chemtrails books filed under«science/nature»? All of those crazy manifestoes and borderline self published nonsense is taking up valuable shelf space. Out of the last three trips, looking for different nonfiction, recently published books about the Southwest(where Collected Works should shine), we’ve struck out three times. We’ve never had a good experience with the staff(read Anna C.‘s review below) but, to their credit, they are excellent at ordering books for you over the phone. More friendly on the phone than in person, oddly enough. It is hard to tell if they want you to sit, read your purchased book, and have coffee, or if they don’t. Some staff will scowl at you while others seem happy for you to be there. We feel bad giving this place three stars. We really want to like it but lately have been walking away very disappointed.

This is a wonderful independent bookstore. In the age of the megachains, this is a refreshing place to visit. This bookstore definitely tries to keep it a little more intellectual. Sure there is plenty of purely entertaining reads, but their selection of great literature and books that will make you think is excellent. I think this may come off as pretentious to some people, but I think it is really just intellectual. These guys are catering to a certain crowd that is outside of what you’re going to find in the chain stores. They also have places where book groups and others can meet, as well as events like live music and readings. Pretty cool. Their coffee shop is quite good as well! Swing by!
