Great red chile. Huge pancakes. Plentiful bread basket. All-around good food. But the window sills near our booth were dirty with crumbs, crud, and dead flies. And our server did too many drugs back in the 80’s. But despite those(significant) mis-steps(management at fault) this is still a reasonably priced nice place for breakfast — the few $$ extra/pp shows in the quality of the food.

Awesome breakfast place! Great service and the Sheepherder was spicy excellence. My wife loved the Eggs Benedict. Great freshly baked muffins too!

Family owned. Fast friendly service. I had the green chili stew with a salad, she had the enchilada plate, both delicious. Reasonably priced. Very highly recommended.

Soooo good! The heuvos Y., frittata, and the piñon nut pancakes were fantastic! The food is out of this world, but the service is even better! They were so nice and treated our toddler like royalty! The chef even made him a special mouse out of an orange! We got to chat with one of the owners too, who told us about some cool kid-friendly things to do in town. We will be back every time we’re in Santa Fe!

This place can get busy, and you may have to wait(but I’ve never waited longer than 20min)… The wait is totally worth it. I’ve tried just about everything on the menu and it’s all delicious. The biscuits in the bakery basket are amazing. Both the red and green chili is delicious. My favorite dish is the corn beef hash.

Awesome breakfast spot. I like that they have vegetarian sausage that you can sub for meat, although I wish they didn’t charge you extra for doing that.

Been a fan of the Tecolote for years. Glad they opened in a newer, bigger space. Same great food as always. Favorite is the bakery basket!

This has been our go-to for decades! Miss the funky old place but liked the new place. Lacking the separate rooms and the carpeting, this place was LOUD! On a weekday, around 9. It was not packed! There is nothing in the new place that can absorb people’s voices. Oh that is a painful memory! Yet we were looking forward to the bakery basket – dang, no longer the tiny tasty muffins but bigger, fewer muffins. My husband still got his beloved blue corn pancakes with piñón, that was still delicious. I found the chorizo omelet lacking flavor and texture. Next time we are in SF, we may give it another try…

Great food, menu a little big but lots of good stuff! 4 stars because of awkward service. Make sure to get the bakery basket for the biscuits, muffins, and cinnamon rolls!

Best breakfast in Santa Fe that I have found! The bakery basket is wonderful. The Sheepherder’s Breakfast is amazing. We always get a Piñon pancake to split because it’s so big. The green chili is second to none. Never fail to come here whenever we’re in town! Love, Love!

An absolute must in the center of Santa Fe. Family owned and run by very friendly people. Authentic wonderful north New Mexican food. That nobody should miss when you come to Santa Fe. Breakfast lunch and dinner!

My family and I used to frequent Tecolote when I was younger living up north. I recently heard they changed locations and moved. I met my parents for breakfast in Santa Fe and they were up for checking out the new location. Tecolote’s new restaurant is huge and they have a lot more seating and room. Since it was Mother’s Day it was pretty packed and the wait was about 30 minutes, but once we sat down our service was quick and attentive. Most of the plates come with either a bakery basket or a tortilla. I definitely recommend the bakery basket. The green chile corn bread is the best! I had the breakfast burrito with bacon and red chile. The menu has a handful of healthy options. I’ve never had the pancakes, but next time I want to try them. I saw some tables next to ours order pancakes and they looked pretty tasty.

This place was great. I was passing through town and was looking for a great breakfast place. The bakery basket was a really nice treat and the huevos rancheros were really good. Great service. Got my meal quickly which was key as I was traveling through. Beware, the green sauce is pretty hot. Would eat here again.

While visiting our son/grandson who is graduating from University of Santa Fe Art & Design, we stopped here for breakfast. The food is phenomenal, and the wait staff was always there for your every need. People in our group had several different items, all of which was delicious. The Shepherd’s breakfast, the single Piñón pancake was big enough for 2 – 3 people, the regular breakfasts with sausage and bacon… All incredible!

This place was phenomenal! Food was great, portions were huge, and the bread basket was really really tasty. Ordered breakfast and ended up with enough leftovers for lunch. Can’t beat it!

Best breakfast in town, I think. The new location is better than the old one, food is as good or better(breakfast potatoes crispy!) The Sheepherder Breakfast will set you straight up first thing in the morning…

Is it me or is everyone in New Mexico super friendly? The staff here is no exception. I had Billy’s omelette and wanted to lick the plate. The potatoes were awesome and the green chile was so flavorful. If I lived anywhere near this place, it would be visited every week!

I adore this place. The food is great. I’m never, ever disappointed. The wait staff is lovely. And now that the restaurant has moved to a St. Michael’s strip mall, parking is easy and plentiful. It’s one of my go-to favorites. HIGHLYRECOMMEND!

There are many breakfast spots in Santa Fe. Some that match the rating I’m giving to Tecolote Café, but their new spot has invigorated their presentation. I really enjoyed the old restaurant and raved about how homey it was and amazing their food is. This new spot is great, a new investment in a modern, updated spot with the same great food. You really can’t go wrong with their offerings here at this restaurant. It starts off with the green chile corn bread, jam and butter. It continues with their great red and green chile that is paired with anything but the pancakes. Order, eat and be merry. This place is usually high in demand so it may require a bit of a wait, but they do a really good job turning over tables to the next customers ready to dive in. The owl says, eat!

I waited about 45 min just to get seated, and mind you, they’ve basically tripled the size of the dining area from the old location. Then we sat for another 30 minutes waiting for the food and we loved it. The point is not that the wait was long. I really want you to take away this one main point: it was worth the wait. Not just for me, but for everyone else there. We all need this restaurant together.
