I came here after going to When the Sun Reaches My Sister and getting an ok haircut that wasn’t a disaster but it was NOT what I had asked for and as a result, I had ended up trying to modify my hair myself. hahaha. I had asked for lots of layers and face framing and didn’t get that (at the first salon) and to top it off, the back of my hair had been cut in a very blunt, square chopped look, so NOT the layery, feathery vibe I was going for.
So there I was at home trying to snip a little here and there and get the look I wanted in front, I went so far as to just give myself bangs, which ended up being a disaster so I got back online looking for other salons on Unilocal and thought I’d go with this one, Salon Del Mar. I looked at the website and I liked Briana’s vibe and hair in her picture and I thought, «I bet she’ll know how to do what I want» and so 3 weeks later (soonest I could get in) I saw Briana. SHE IS TOTALLY AWESOME!!! She did EXACTLY what I asked for and even better, having had bangs in the past herself, she knew how they were supposed to look and how to do the side part and front bangs (I had just been combing all the too-​many-​bangs I made down over my forehead like a bad toupe) Please note that I have VERY thin, fine blonde hair, every cut shows. This is the hardest type of hair to cut. Briana mentioned that she has similar hair (tho brown) and she REALLY knew how to do it right with all the soft layering and feathering I wanted and she saved my botched bang job and I walked outa there feeling SOOOO hot, I went and spent $ 100 on clothes just to go with my «new look»
I have spent my WHOLE ADULT LIFE being afraid of getting my hair cut due to negative experiences and for the last decade, I pretty much only ever went in for a very minimal trim, NO styling at all, just to get the dead ends off and I had this Jan Brady Hippie look forever and I was really getting tired of it. straight parted down the middle, straight parted on the side, straight flat boring, blah! When I moved back to New Mexico (land of super flat lifeless static electricity hair,) I knew, for the first time in my life, I was going to need to find «a stylist», that ONE person who KNOWS my hair, knows what I want, gets my vibe and gets it right every time who I can see every 3 months for that trim and to maintain a look and finally start really taking care of my poor (neglected out of fear of bad hair cuts) hair.
Well, Briana is it!!! She was not only a sweetheart with a great vibe and fun to talk to, but she RREEEAAALLY got it. This is the best hair cut I’ve had since the one in Beverly Hills when I was 14 that I think, my dad said cost him $ 120!!! And I’m 33 so you can imagine all the bad hair cuts since then! This was under $ 100, but after tax and tip, only just but TOTALLY WORTH IT!

The salon is very nice. They give you coffee or hot tea to start. The consultation was great before going to the shampoo bowl. Audrey took her time and really paid attention to my hair. It was a great experience!

Audrey has given me the best haircuts I have ever had. The whole staff is very professional and friendly, the place is nicely appointed and has a great mood. The prices are good, too.

Every experience I have had at Salon Del Mar thus far has been GREAT! It’s been awhile that I can say that I walk out of a salon with exactly what I asked for! I recommend Salon Del Mar to friends and family all the time… Amanda has been my go to stylist! She always does my cut and color exactly the way I want it! So glad I finally found a consistent and professional salon that I can trust!

This salon might be great, but unfortunately, the most experienced stylists aren’t taking on any new clients, so I guess it’s just OK.

Some things you should know about me to better grasp this review is that I have curly hair. I have curly hair AND I have been around the block a couple of times trying to find a place that:
A) can cut curly hair
B) has both professional and friendly staff (that also don’t both talk too much and not at all)
C) generally produces quality cuts, color and style AND uses awesome product (AND tells you about it while using them)
And D) has great consultations and educates you with tips and info about hair.
So, clearly all these things stood out to me in the best way possible. I only wish that I discovered this salon sooner and thus didn’t waste my time with anywhere else. I recommend this salon with an A+.
They have apparently changed locations a couple times, and as of now I wouldn’t really consider it in the railyard (but perhaps the railyard district stretches this far). Above all, these stylists listen and consider and give input which is what I’m always looking for. Looking around I watched as other stylists worked on clients and other clients finished up looking great!
NOTES:
–They (of course) have a tea/​coffee/​cucumber water bar
–The desk receptionists are great. Very friendly and patient and professional and efficient.
–They do kids and men
–Would most likely pass Tabatha’s Salon Takeover
–Aesthetically pleasing
–They do NOT take forever!

Im so disappointed in this place, almost feel like they wouldn’t be professional they say they didn’t know if they could work with my hair the first time and that it might get fragile since they «did» a hair test wich it took almost 4 days for me to get an answer and only cuz I keep calling, so they didn’t work with me, guess what I did it my self and it went great no damage, so I got tired of my color and tried to do it again, and make a call and even before making and appointment they almost shut the door, I was so excited to try and get my hair done professional but nop, I guess this was it no more try for me. I can’t say if they are good, cuz I didn’t got a chance, by the way I usually do my hair my self for the last 20 years, and the only time I got my hair damage was at a salon, not this one ok, so good luck getting an appointment.

I decided to make an appointment here after hearing nothing but amazing reviews. I made an appointment with Karalyn and I don’t think I will ever want to see another stylist besides her ever again! She was professional from start to finish and my hair looks FANTASTIC! I decided to cut almost 5″ off and do something asymmetrical and edgy. She was more knowledgeable than any other hair stylist I have ever met, plus she’s so wonderfully hilarious and awesome. I am still in awe of my hair; and I’ve already booked my next appointment!

I recently moved to Santa Fe, and I had a horrible hair cut from a different salon. It was literally the worst hair cut of my life. After a couple weeks I decided I had to get it fixed, it was just that bad. So I took a chance and scheduled an appointment at Salon del Mar.
Ashley was my stylist, and she was great. She listened to my story and came up with a game plan for fixing my hair. I felt like she really understood my concerns and the look I was trying to achieve. Today, after styling it for the first time myself, I can tell an amazing difference in the way my hair is cut. It looks so much better! I’m so glad I took a chance with Salon del Mar, and I’m looking forward to my next hair cut with Ashley. :)

Love Salon Del Mar… love my hair, my hair stylist and all the staff and of course… a given… Davines!!! A beautiful and lovely little piece of Hair Heaven in Santa Fe! You all are beautiful, fabulous and so much talent… sorry…but not sorry… I seriously cannot contain my exciting!

My experience at Salon Del Mar exceeded my expectations. After having a bad hair stylists at a neighboring salon, the staff and owners at Salon Del Mar confidently fixed my hair to perfection. The atmosphere of the salon is stylish and comfortable and the staff and stylists are competent and warm. I recommend this salon to anyone in town or who is new to Santa Fe looking for tasteful and talented hair stylists who have much experience.

This is one of the worst salon experiences I have ever had. I first went in for a color, and told the stylist I wanted my hair darker– as the sun in Santa Fe had lightened it too much. He claimed he understood, however I left the salon with significantly lighter hair than when I initially went in…
I came back a few days later for a cut (from a different stylist). After explaining what I wanted (a minimal trim) she started taking sections claiming that she was going to layer my hair. After about ten minutes of explaining I did NOT want that, and to please just take off the split ends– she said she understood. I then further went on to explain that my hair was too light from the color a few days prior, and I had asked for it to be darker…
As such, she began throwing some lowlights in as quickly and sloppily as possible, and began trimming away.
I left with layers in my hair instead of a light trim, and choppy lowlights covering up bad highlights from a few days before.
I don’t mind paying high prices for quality cuts and color, but this was extremely high cost for incredibly poor service.
Don’t waste your money or let anyone in the salon touch your hair!!!

Richard is a talented hair stylist at this salon — very kind and an expert hair cutter ! I feel comfortable and pampered from the moment i walk in even though I get my hair cut every couple of months. I do recommend this salon!

I’ve lived in Santa Fe for two years after growing up in Pittsburgh, PA and briefly living in Miami, FL. Needless to say, I am VERY picky about hair stylists. I was unhappy with the salon I was going to in Santa Fe and decided to try Salon Del Mar after reading many great reviews. I can honestly say that I’ve had such a wonderful experience. Karalyn is not only an amazing stylist but a kind person as well. She really took the time to listen to me and did a wonderful job on my hair. She is a true artist who is passionate about her work. On top of that, everyone who works at the salon is so friendly and kind, especially Kevin at the front desk. This is truly the best salon in Santa Fe, and this city girl highly recommends it!

Salon del Mar – the only salon I’ve visited in Santa Fe in the last year, as I’ve never had any reason to go elsewhere. They understand professional service, and not just when it comes to the cut or style. When you call to schedule, you are greeted by friendly competent personnel. When you get there for a haircut, you rarely wait more than 5 minutes, but even if you did, it’s a lovely space and you get your choice of coffee or tea to sip on while you wait. Please note that the hairdressers do have different pricing, depending on their experience, so you might want to inquire ahead of time. I’ve been very happy with Ashley, but I’ve had my family go there and all the stylists have done a wonderful job (Colin, Richard). I really appreciate this well run, fantastic hair salon and would recommend it to anyone.

What a fantastic salon!!! I have only been to Vanessa who is truly a gem. She spends time communicating with you and showing you pics of suggestions so there are no surprises… and she is fun! I have heard great things about the other stylists as well. The salon goes out of their way to make clients feel comfortable and special.

Salon Del Mar has changed my life. I just celebrated my two-​year anniversary with Vanessa and haven’t had a bad-​hair day in all of that time. She took one look at my hair and knew just what to do to make me feel like a million bucks AND make it easy to take care of.
The entire staff is warm and welcoming and I can’t recommend the place highly enough.

I’ve lived in Santa Fe for a year now and this salon is the best place I’ve found. I got my hair cut by Ashley ($ 50) and I really love the cut she gave me! She listened to what I wanted and took the time to give me a great cut. I like the salon because it’s airy, sunny and comfortable. I didn’t wait long for my appointment and I told Ashley that I had time restrictions — luckily I was in and out in less than 1 hour. I appreciated the fact that she told me she didn’t want to rush, especially since this was her first time cutting my hair.
The only down side is that they try to sell products to you but I know it’s part of their job. But they aren’t pushy about it so I’m not going to knock off a star :)
Overall, great salon and would highly recommend!

Salon Del Mar is one of the most beautiful Salons I’ve been in. A warm and welcoming feel washes over you when you walk in the door. Friendly professional staff, Absolutely beautiful displays for products, and interior decorations. Angela is a talented wonderful stylist and woman! I highly recommend Salon del Mar if your in Santa Fe.

I recently traveled from Farmington, NM to Santa Fe, NM specifically to visit Salon Del Mar. (3 hours one way) The owner was very welcoming, coming over & introducing herself with a nice smile & warm, sincere greeting. What an amazing salon space! I love Davines. So this gorgeous salon space filled with Davines products & an open color bar is so sophisticated, chic & cool! Great space :)
