I have had my hair done by both Laura Jane and Johnny. Both of them do amazing jobs and I have always left happy. They listen to what you want, they both do great color and My experiences with them have been nothing but the best. I have sent ALL of my friends and family to the Chop Shop and they have all had great experiences as well. Hair is a tricky thing and if you can’t speak up and tell someone what you want at a salon then thats your fault. If and this is a big if, you were not happy with something they did I know that they would do whatever it took to make you happy. Go to the Chop Shop for your next cut or color I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Not much to praise here. The salon is more a platform for a personality than an actual professional styling establishment. If the haircuts were decent, it would possibly merit some comment but the skills here are negligible. If you find yourself desperate enough to make a second appointment, don’t be surprised if you don’t get a call back. This seems to be a frequent strategy at this salon.

I love the Chop Shop. Johnny and Laura Jane are both incredibly talented, and they’re hilarious to boot. I’ve been thrilled with every cut I’ve had there. Johnny is really responsive to the consultation part of the appointment, and I always feel that I’ve received exactly what I ask for, or better. Thanks guys!

Chop shop is more ironic then a cute name for a hair salon. I had been going to Johnny for a while. While the color was never quite right the price was so I couldn’t complain. I had let my hair grow out to past my bra line, with semi regular maintenance, and went in for a cut and color. What I got was a butcher job. I was so traumatized afterward’s I wouldn’t let anyone else look at it for months and the 4 stylists I did let look at reflected in the mirror looks of horror and confusion. The length was still there but a HUGE chunk was missing from below the top layer??? As well as an inch and a half into my hairline was gone where my bangs where. WTF!?! I was blown away. That wasn’t all of it. After much discussion, with other local stylists, I came to the conclusion I realized Johnny is color-blind, not a big deal if you just want color straight from the book(which comes with formulas) but any variation and forget it. I’ve had bad haircuts and color before but this was cruel. If you don’t want to cut someones hair don’t return their calls or make them an appointment. I ended up having to cut it above the shoulders just to get the back even but the front is still growing out. It was so bad I considered reporting him to the board but decided against it because I never wanted to deal with him again. I hear he’s still good with men’s cuts but I wouldn’t take the chance on his moods.

I wear my hair short and popped into this place for a quick neck clean-up(I’m only in Santa Fe for the summer). John was so nice! Great conversation, helped me out quick and sent me on my way. Loved the décor of the place and it’s in a great location, right next to Cowgirl! Hope to try this place for a cut later this summer!

I have wanted to write a review for quite some time about this place. The good things: they took me in with barely any notice because I needed my hair cut for my senior pictures. Jane was very fun and nice, I really liked her as a person. I also enjoyed all the people who walked in. the place had a great atmosphere. The bad: jane did a really poor job cutting my hair. My hair at the time was down past the middle of my back, and the way she cut it made it look as if it was over processed. my hair is natrually really soft, and usually looks soft too, but somehow with scissors she made it look like straw. It just looked awful, and I didn’t have the money or time to have someone fix it. when I went home my mom told me that my hair looked like it got caught in a blow dryer… Not the kind if look I was going for and its how my hair looked for my senior high school pictures… i would definitely not advise going there.

Showed a picture of a haircut, Johnny glanced at it and put it away. I trusted that this was some sorta pro move. DONTTRUSTTHIS lol. I wanted a pixie and he totally butchered my hair. It took a few months before salon del mar could really do anything to fix it, and then I finally had some semblance of the picture I brought in. Could not recommend this place. Price was good for the area but you get what you pay for.

I grew my hair out for about 2 years and decided it was time to cut it all off! I looked for a place in Santa Fe that would not be too conservative, yet I wanted a place where they knew what they were doing. I must say I got an AWESOME cut. It is probably the best cut I have ever gotten. I constantly get compliments on it and everyone is asking where I got it done. Thank you so much for taking the time to make my short hair look great! I highly recommend this place!

Johnny does an excellent job for men’s haircuts. I definitely recommend going to see Johnny to have him do his magic with your hair. I have high standards and appreciate the efficiency and results that Johnny gives every time. Cash paying customers receive a discount. Plus, the shop is dog-friendly. Gotta love that!
