Super 8 Santa Cruz Boardwalk East

Easy to find, the kid at the front desk was very helpful and had no issues giving me my key and letting me park and walk to the boardwalk until our room was ready which was an hour early. The room was clean and put together well for a budget motel its centrally located. Can’t ask for much more for the price and they have free breakfast. Highly recommend if your on a budget and want a nice room

Decent hotel close to the boardwalk. The surrounding area does look a little sketch at night, but otherwise very convenient! The room was clean and there’s a basic breakfast available in the morning (we just grabbed some yogurt and fruit). Inexpensive and decent option by the boardwalk!

Very clean and pretty nice inside! The bed was comfortable and the location was perfect! We were able to walk to the boardwalk and it only took us about 5 minutes. The room had a nice mounted flat screen tv and a new window AC unit. The bathroom was clean. The guy working at the front desk, Suran, was very polite and was happy to hear we enjoyed our stay! We will stay there again when we come back to santa cruz!

So happy that we stayed here! I booked a deluxe room with a king size bed, the room was spacious and clean. We were located right in front of the pool which has a cute seating area to the side. A man who I believe was the manager or owner made our stay stand out by going above and beyond for us. We had absolutely no problems during our stay. Can’t beat the location either! The board walk is super close! And if you don’t mind walking a little there is lots more close by. Will definitely be back for our next vacation!

While I wouldn’t count a ‘Super 8′ as a very romantic hotel, we stayed here during a Valentine’s Day weekend in Santa Cruz. It IS a Super 8, so obviously don’t get your hopes up with excellent accommodations– almost everything opens up to a pool/​street view, so you’ll get a lot of noise, no worries. I can see why families would stay here. It is a short distance from the boardwalk, but also the highway. It’s easy to get to and cheap to boot. They even offer a free shuttle to/​from the boardwalk even though it’s a close walk away.
The hotel accommodations are standard. Obviously, being a motel, I didn’t expect fireworks or luxury– but the staff was very sweet, the standard *free* breakfast was delicious, and it worked for our Valentine’s Day weekend as a getaway. (We did not spend much time in the hotel room, so it worked out.) The room was fairly big, the fridge was great, the A/​C worked but was loud, and it was a little on the older side– but the bed was clean, and they were fairly comfortable, given the price. As other reviews state, I would be wary of the parking lot because it is very cramped and small– you’ll constantly have to be able to manuever around other cars. If I had been driving, I probably would just give up lol– that’s how small it is. It is very convenient to the highway, as well as the boardwalk. You can also walk to downtown Santa Cruz from the Super 8 by cutting through the river walk. I probably would not recommend doing that in the evening because it doesn’t feel super safe, but it worked for a late afternoon.
I will probably stay here again if other options fail and I find myself in Santa Cruz again.

Nice room, nice jaccuzi right by the bed. Safe comfortable parking lot. Right up the street from the boardwalk. There is another Super 8 almost directly across the street that is not nearly as nice. Make sure you have the right place

Room was neat but appeared poorly maintained. Bathroom needed better cleaning and smelled — possibly because the sink drain was so slow as to render it practically unusable (and though reported to the desk, this was not remedied). Key cards failed and were replaced 3 times during our stay. Internet failed once and had to be reset. The lobby doubled as the breakfast area but was so small that it was standing room for 4 people and crowded with 2. Parking was difficult for even small vehicles. Price was over three times the $ 79-​per-​night it was worth.
And I have to say I was shocked when a housekeeper used her key to enter our room when we were there and had the privacy sign on the outside doorknob.
Please help me send a message by choosing other lodging for your stay.

GREAT owners and staff. I was warmly welcomed and shown a very nice large room with lots of natural light. I walked to the Boardwalk every morning looking for seashells, watching dolphins and sea lions, paddle boarders, and joggers. In the afternoons, I worked on my master’s thesis on the large 2^nd story deck. The fridge was the perfect size for little snacks I bought just down the street at the local grocers. Overall, I’d like to say that it was an excellent stay. I ended up staying for a whole week instead of just a couple of nights. What a great get away! Some people complained about noise, but I always come prepared with earplugs when I travel, so had absolutely no problems what-​so-​ever. Also, there were tons of TV channels for at night when I just needed to chill and take a break from studying/​writing. Again, I’d highly recommend this spot. LOTS of parking in the back. Breakfast in the morning, including FRESH fruit, coffee/​tea, juice, do it yourself waffles, cereals, and pastries. Did I say how nice the owners are?

This hotel is priced about right for the area. Although it seems high for a basic motel room, for a weekend a block from the beach that’s what you pay. The staff is very nice. Our room was very clean with comfortable beds. The only downside was a very odd pervasive smell.

Within walking distance to the beach. The couple at the front desk are very nice and helpful. The rooms were dated but clean. For the price, the room with a jacuzzi was worth it. It just took a while to drain the water after using it, but I’d guess that’s caused by the sand in the pipes which is unavvoidable. Will probably go there again.

The hotelier was very kind, generous and welcoming, as was our maid. The rooms were very clean. Boardwalk is a convenient walk!

I planned a 2 night stay here based on various review sites but was very disappointed when I arrived. Hotel rooms I saw were cramped, dated, and dark. And the street traffic was NOISY. Really really loud. The parking lot is cramped and the pool is… struggling to find the words… tiny, dull, lackluster, cramped?
Rooms felt oppressive/​claustrophobic. I tried switching rooms but that didn’t help. So I checked out and found a different hotel.
That being said, the location can’t be beat. Very close to the Boardwalk, and an easy walk to the downtown shops & restaurants. The staff was very accommodating.

For a cheap hotel it was fine.
The 4 star because the AC was very loud all night. The bathroom was old and you could tell. Everything was very «used». And the parking was terrible. Such a small lot you hope no one backs into you.
Otherwise staff was nice. Room was nice and clean. Beds comfortable. Fridge worked great. Big room-​had 2 queens. Does have a small pool. No hot tub. A small breakfast in the morning with waffles and coffee and yogurt. Was very Close to the boardwalk and bowling: walking distance. The area was relatively safe.
Would stay here again.

Service was good. Rooms were decent. Fridge wasn’t doing justice so we basically moved all of our drinks and food to our cooler and put ice in it. Blankets we slept in had holes. Pool was dirty and closed so didn’t even get to dip in it. Other than that everything else was good. Glad they allowed us to have a one hour early check in so we could Park our car and walk to the boardwalk.

Very clean and comfortable motel only a few minutes walk from the boardwalk.
The staff was accommodating and very friendly when we asked to check in early.
The room was well maintained and look newly renovated.
However, the parking lot was poorly designed and small (during the busy season his might be an issue) and the continental breakfast was limited.
Overall, this was a comfortable and pleasant experience that was well worth the money.

Close to the beach, rooms are large, clean, have fridges, microwaves, coffee pots. Free made on the spot waffles (you make them yourself but it’s a big waffle iron). People running it are very nice… we’ll definitely keep this hotel in mind for another night near the beach. Quick tip… get your alcohol early, the closest liquor store closes early and the other market is cash only, have to use their ATM and they do not sell booze!!!

Run by such a genuine and hospitable staff! A friend and I were roadtrippin’ up the California coast, visiting a couple of UC’s (Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, and Davis) for next fall. We were so refreshed to find such a well kept hotel and the owners’ attention to detail made the difference. The entire hotel was clean and efficient, the breakfast station in the morning was clean and fresh, the room was in top condition and the location is perfect. I actually kind of miss this hotel now that I’m further down the coast ‚/​
If I find myself in (or near!) Santa Cruz, I will definitely reserve this hotel again. I couldn’t find a thing to complain about even wanted to!

My girlfriend and I decided to go here for our trip to Santa Cruz. We were surprised to see how decent and clean these rooms were, especially for a Super 8. The beds and pillows were comfortable, they also had multiple sheets, in addition to the inner and top sheets. The room had an AC, heater, and separate tower fan for ideal temperature control. The refrigerator was clean! Although we didn’t use it, the microwave was also clean but antiquated. The hotel is managed by a couple, who was very courteous and attentive to their customers’ needs. The free breakfast consisted of cereal, cinnamon rolls, toast, and waffles (there’s a waffle iron and all), along with coffee and juice. I’ll definitely miss those waffles!!! The rooms were serviced very well, in addition, they also allowed us to delay service and sleep in.
One drawback was the tv. The color was really distorted, it looked as if we were watching tv in negative colors. Also we could not find a remote. These issues may only pertain to our room, so this should not reflect the hotel as a whole.
Overall, our experience was great. The hotel is located just down the street from the boardwalk and is not very far from downtown. We would definitely comeback.

The location is prime but the surrounding area may not be suitable for all, meaning that the area is noisy and potentially very busy. As the rooms are exterior entry, we had faced a busy street and experienced sounds of traffic and sirens, which do not help when attempting to get a good nights rest.
The owners are extremely friendly and offered suggestions about the area. There is also a continental breakfast offered at no additional charge.
The room itself is very dated and felt slightly unclean. There was a strong unpleasant odor of cleaning solution that lingered the entire duration of the visit. I think this may just be the result of an older building.
I would recommend this place if u want to be very close to the boardwalk or pier but if not then probably check other areas for a nicer motel or hotel.

The hotel was really clean and the bed was soft and comfortable. The front desk was very friendly and helpful when we asked about things to do or bars nearby.
They have an outdoor patio that’s really cute and my husband and I had a beer out there.
The only things he noticed were the retro microwave which we didn’t use but I’m sure it would have worked just the same. Also the coffee maker and coffee stuff was in the bathroom which I think is weird. Also parking was really tight and awkward it wasn’t a problem as we had a small car but just something to consider if you have a larger SUV.
We would def stay here again it’s so close to everything, clean, and friendly staff!
