Love this place. Iv only gone on Thursday nights but this is the place to be up in SC. Super cool DJ! Friendly bartenders, chill crowd. Bar turns into a pretty packed little club environment the later and later it gets. It tends to get a bit hot n sweaty! Don’t say I didn’t warn you ! =] So I apparently wrote this back in the day and never posted it. This place as far as i know is called the blue lounge now. It has a much calmer vibe and its not the the same at all.

We were kind of skeptical going in because we literally chose this place based on a review from our taxi driver, but it was amazing. There was no cover, the drinks were strong, the music was great. It is kind of a small place but there weren’t too many people there so there was plenty of room to dance. We are from Sacramento where a lot of the bars are kind of square so we’re used to getting kicked out for having too much fun– not the case here. The staff was not only cool with us having a blast but a few of the dancers actually came and danced with us on their breaks. There was no problem with re-entry even at 1:45 am which again is something that is a major issue in Sac, so we were just stoked with how chill this place is. People were super friendly and apologized and accepted apologies for bumping into each other(not trying to start fights like in Sac). The atmosphere was pretty dark with disco lights and mirrored walls so you can watch yourself get stupid. There is just one little cage which had only one or two dancers most of the night, and no they don’t let you get in it but won’t kick you out for trying! There are also a few little chaises pushed to the side on the dance floor and a full bar area with seats.

First time there on a Thursday night, and it was SO much fun! I love the atmosphere. It gets REALLY packed and hot, but comes with the dancing environment. I feel like it is so much better than going to the popular bars like Motiv because people are friendly and not rude or creepy, and people were actually apologizing if they accidentally pushed past you. Good dance music, good selection. There was a part of the night with a rap battle that was really good. All and all a very fun place! Definitely going again soon!

Look, I’ve been here twice for the Rainbow Room on Thursday nights, so that’s what I’m reviewing. I’m sure it’s plenty different on the other days, and I encourage you to stop by and check it out from yourself. Both times I’ve been here were fun, but not worth the drive from Monterey. It’s a great place to meet the 12 other gay people that live in Santa Cruz/Monterey and it’s the only gay dance venue left on the bay, and it is constantly packed with«Allies» who make the place basically a gay-friendly straight bar where the girls think it’s alright to get up on you because you’re gay and you won’t take them home. The DJ won’t play music for you, and will get in your face if you ask her to play something besides the regular stuff you can go to a straight dance club and hear. Overall, if you’re in town, great, stop by and have fun. Otherwise take the extra half hour and go over the hill to somewhere with actually good music and room to dance. Glad I’ve been, but I won’t be going again.

So, I went to Lollipop this past Saturday and figured I ought report on my experiences. Not as good as Rainbow Room. There were fewer people, which was disappointing, and the DJ for the second half of the evening was not nearly as good as DJAD. The room configuration was much nicer, and there were boy cage dancers, which was cool, but still not nearly as awesome as Rainbow Room. The«Cash Only» sign was still up.

I’ve only been to mad house on Thursday nights, but let me tell you, its CRACKIN! If you’re queer, an ally, or just loooove to dance, then this is the place for you. I usually arrive around 11 and the dance floor is already packed. DJAD definitely knows whats up, she keeps the hip hop/pop coming all night. There’s no special deals on drinks so if you’re a broke college student like me and plan on getting wasted, you should probably drink before hand. Other than that, this place is the shit!

Neat little dive bar I wish were in my neighborhood! I came down for a happy hour night with fellow burners. They give us decent specials and we give them a DJ. And any place with Blue Moon on tap is my kind of bar! Really love the love seats, however, it’s near impossible to have a conversation with the other side, as they are spaced too far apart. Other than that, I hope to be back soon.

I’ve been to the Mad House a few times. Each time I’ve become extremely hammered, danced a storm up, hit on people who didn’t want hitting on, and then caused more trouble after leaving the bar. I like coming here. There is a small dance area and there has always been a DJ plying their auditory wares. Surprisingly people aren’t usually dancing when I’ve entered the bar, maybe they’re not drunk enough? Fortunately for them once my friends and I show up, people dance. The vibe is great, bartenders are cool, and the men’s bathroom has a pretty cool visual treat. If you’re in this area of Santa Cruz and looking for a cool bar, look no farther than the Mad House.
