Providence Medical Institute – Santa Clarita Urgent

This review is solely regarding the business side (front desk staff) of Advanced Medical Care. I absolutely love the doctors, PAs and nurses there and I would give them 5 stars.
My issue is with the information that the admin staff provides regarding my account. On every visit, we ask if we have any balances that we need to pay (ie patient responsibility) and more often than not, we are told we have no balance. That’s great… until we receive bills for the previous year’s medical visits.
PROVIDENCE, TAKE NOTE: As a patient who agrees to financial responsibility, it is important for your staff to properly be able to look up account balances so I can pay for current year expenses out of my current year flexible spending account. It does me no good to have a flexible spending account if you don’t bill me in a timely manner. That becomes an out of pocket expense for me because your staff incorrectly tells me that I have no balance on my account. FSA dollars cannot be used to pay for previous year medical expenses. To be clear, this isn’t about a billing dispute; it is about the timing and incorrect information provided when asked. As much as I like the medical staff, I may go to a different provider if your administrative staff is unable to provide accurate information.

Interesting how we all have such varying degrees of experiences. I recently left Facey due to their total incompetence. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Bulger and was pleasantly surprised in the service I received. She is highly competent and seemed knowledgeable about various medications and appropriate treatment. She made referrals and asked follow up questions to ensure she understood my questions. The office staff was friendly and accommodating. We have been looking for a doctor for our son who just turned 18 and cannot see his pediatrician any longer. I told him about Dr. Bulger and we scheduled him for a physical. Anyone with kids knows, one has to have a lot of confidence in someone if they refer their child. Enough Said!

Still sitting I’m waiting room. They said 30 min wait and I have been here for an hour and a half. Going to SCV quality care next time. Don’t believe their sign that says 30 min wait. Fool me once…

Fast and friendly service. Providence Hospitals offer great care and the Urgent Care was no different. They were able to take care of my T.B. Testing for employment as well as a physical in less than 30 minutes with no appt and have given great service to my kids when they have had coughs.

I came in through the door with my kids at 4:30p and by 6pm, still no show from the doctor! My daughter has a terrible cough and you would think they would take that on to consideration. I told them this is unacceptable and left promptly. Shame on them! Calling the office urgent care! Never Again.

Dr. Bulger Beck is very personable and effective in treating complex cases. Some staff I’ve found to be test runners and don’t actually listen to the patient. As a health care provider, I’d rather know I’m being heard and feel confident you are capable without running costly test that don’t pin point the problem. Service is usually fast and they accommodate working schedules with hours of operation. However, billing raising red flags as I came in for a TB shot and was charged for the shot as well as an office visit and in contacting the billing office I was informed by staff, «oh we don’t tell you that information» in reference to being charged for an office visit. Having been devices at other urgent care facilities you are only billed for the service requested and if there are other charges you are made aware while in the office. Bad practices at this facility even with insurance!

If I could give this Doctors office a negative star or a ZERO I would! My daughter, waiting at the door when they opened. She waits in the lobby for 15-​minutes before being taken to an exam room. For one hour and 15-​minutes she waits. No one comes into the room to see her, to tell her anything. Finally she is moved to another room. She’s told, Dr. Pin has been with another patient. With one patient for an hour and 15-​minutes? I call BS on that. She waits another 15-​minutes. Finally another doctor comes in, looks at her health issue and says… «I don’t know what it is… take an anti-​inflammatory.» No blood test, no urine test to rule out what it could be. A waste of her time, a waste of her co-​pay and the worst experience she’s ever had at at Doctor’s office. Dr. Pin has just lost my family’s business.
My daughter is now sitting in ANOTHER doctor’s office in Santa Clarita.

Note: This review is not in any way for their doctors. I am writing this because of the unprofessional act of some of their assistants.
Went in the other night for a check up and was immediately given attitude from their front desk staff. Was not greeted in a nice way. The woman behind the desk acted like they didn’t have time to see me.
Once they did bring me back, they did the usual pre check stuff by checking height, weight etc. the woman in the back that assisted me made me read the eye chart off the wall. When I told her I couldn’t read it without my glasses, she laughed like I was joking. This was very unprofessional. If you are working in an environment where patient privacy is crucial, why would you laugh. Poor eye sight is not something to laugh at.
I am planning on going back to this office because their doctors are very good but for the office staff and assistants. Poor job. Not the type of people that should be working there.

This place is ok for minor, short term health care only. Scheduled appointments are interrupted by «walk-​in» patients creating an unfocused environment. Physicians lack time for any follow through. Staff seems undertrained.

I never write bad reviews on Unilocal.However, I’m taking the time to review this place because of my disgustingly horrible visit and their treatment of me as a patient. They took me as a walk-​in patient, and charged me their fee because my insurance was not taken there, very understandable. After my visit and following the doctors orders, and picking up my prescriptions, my condition became ten times worse the next day. They failed to communicate with me, their own staff and the pharmacist; Not only did they prescribe me the wrong medication, in which I clearly stated I was allergic to, but they failed to get me the right medication that day entirely, and I went without the correct medication until the following afternoon. I then proceeded to take myself to their office the following morning because they never actually called in the correct medication, and because I was in excruciating pain. Then, they refused to care for me because apparently the doctors and staff would «get in trouble» for treating me because I have Obama care. However, they were perfectly fine with taking my money 2 days prior to that. One of the staff members began explaining to me that if I can afford to pay cash as a walk in, then I should be able to pay for insurance. They sent me away to go to another urgent care, My Doctors Office with Dr. Jenkins, who gladly took me and only charged half the price. I went to the pharmacy to pick up the correct medication, and received a day late call from Providence saying they are returning my phone call regarding the prescription. Not only that, but they tried re-​prescribing me the wrong medication yet again! These people have absolutely no clue what they are doing, no communication skills with the doctors, to their costaff members, pharmacists, and their PATIENTS! they gave me the complete run around for someone who was in extreme pain and exhausted from being ill. I would never recommend even my worst enemy to receive care from this place.

This review is specifically for Dr. Pin. I have been here numerous times and really like this urgent care, but I was appalled by Dr. Pin’s lack of professionalism. This was my second time into this office — I’ve having sore throat issues. Long story short Dr. Pin was more interested in my personal life than my current medical issues. When I began explaining my issues he responded with «oh that’s so confusing, you’re healthy otherwise right»? What Dr. says that? Then he proceeded to tell me my throat looks fine, which I can’t imagine seeing as how I can barely swallow and then he advised me to get two really expensive blood tests. I then asked him about a staph swab which he agreed to do and then asked me «which area I want swabbed». My damn throat! I was literally in disbelief as everything I was saying was apparently not registering with him. USELESS. I would be more inclined to take his tests if he payed attention to my concerns. Way too scatterbrained and aloof to be practicing medicine in my opinion. The other doctors and front desk staff are much more knowledgeable and professional.

I’m always glad to be able to make a same day appt so we don’t have to hang out all day in the waiting room! The staff have all been great with my kids ages 4 – 13. This is our go-​to place now that Valencia Pediatrics has got us fed up with their ridiculous billing practices. Much happier here for non emergency stuff like ear infections.

This review was for a my Urgent Care visit early June, the Valencia location on Newhall Ranch Road.
I decided to have this something on me checked. What it is, is not what’s important here. However, I did walk in first thing in the morning and was greeted by the girls behind the counter. Because it was my first time, I had the standard paperwork to fill-​out, nothing new.
After paying my co-​pay, I noticed they had me see a «PA» by the name of Jesse. Honestly, I had no idea what a PA was until that day. After their initial person asks the questions, etc., the standard thing at most medical offices is that the Doctor will then come in, greet you, review the chart, or computer screen in this case, then they either stand or sit with you face-​to-​face, discussing the issue, right?
Well, this was somewhat the case. Remember the days when you sat with the Doctor and they made you feel comfortable, they made eye-​to-​eye contact with a clear understanding of the situation? This was not the case at this particular Urgent Care.
Did he talk to me and diagnose the issue? Yes, after I pointed out the issue. However, he paid more attention to that computer screen than he did to his own patient. At one point I wanted to tell him, look, if you prefer to text each other about what’s going on with me, maybe that’ll be easier? Maybe facebook? The personal connection just was not there.
Now I know technology is what’s now, it’s today’s way of doing business; Apple TV, iPhones, even the info you provide to the receptionist is then added onto their iPad, so we have to move forward. But, should that really take away from the human experience? Should the patient have to sit there, explaining things, while the PA is busy reading the screen nearly 90% of the actual time in the room?
Listen, if you’re thinking of seeing an actual Doctor, then maybe this is what needs to be pointed out before stepping foot in their office, or at least when you speak to the person in the front desk area.
I cannot speak for how their Doctors will be when in that room. However, I can speak for my time when I had their PA, Jesse. He wasn’t bad, he obviously studied hard enough to earn the position and you have to give him credit for that. But he needs to be with that person in the room, not constantly looking at the computer screen almost up until the moment the patient leaves. I’ve been in these situations before, it’s nothing new. They usually read the notes and a few other things regarding your visit and what’s going on. But I’ve also always had those Doctors remove themselves from the screen and onto me since I was their patient. They «listened» very well.
I do like the front office staff, they seemed very kind. But for some reason, and I have to say it’s because of how he handled things in that room, Jesse really came across as arrogant, like that medical «know-​it-​all». Also, at times it was as if I was wasting his time with questions. There was this lack of respect on his part.
Depending on your insurance, there are a good number of medical offices to choose from, a variety of Urgent Care facilities, if this is what’s needed. It comes down to doing your homework, reading all reviews, maybe talking to others who have been to these places, and simply deciding from there.
I hope this will at least shed some light on your decision and possibly help when finding that one place for you, because after all, it’s your health, not theirs.

I’m so thankful for the help today with my daughter! Not only was the care superb, but the extra mile that was taken to help us get her MRI booked and expedited was extremely appreciated! Thank you so much Kelsey and Dr. Avnaim!

I took my wife to this place for first time waiting time was horrible as she has fever no one take care of her & finally met Dr Bulger Beck which i think she is not a Dr … She has given her wrong medication unfortunatly and she become more sick i advice to all patient not go there and this place is not advance medical center even is not eligible for Basic my wife going to open a case for dr as well as medical center so avoid to go there.

Switched to Blue Cross in July and went to Providence Medical (after numerous recommendations) for an annual physical and medication update. The PA refused to write a prescription for two meds that I have been taking for years. I went back yesterday and the PA wrote a new prescription with the wrong written instructions so Blue Cross would only cover 30 pills and I needed at least 60 pills per month. Both the Pharmacist and I spoke with Lora (Charge Nurse) and explained that the prescription instructions had to be modified for Blue Cross to accept and pay for any pills over 30 per month. She argued with me TWICE that I was wrong and had to pay out of pocket for the additional pills. Also, I was given four different referrals to other Specialists, but was only given the information and referral slips to three Specialists. I asked for the referral and information to the one missing Specialist and was told I must have lost it. So now I am the one that can not get the needed medication, nor the Specialist that I must see because of THEIR oversight and inability to change written instructions!!!
I now have to Doctor Shop to find a decent Doctor, decent staff and to get the necessary Specialists and medication.
What’s worse, right when you walk into the place, there is a pretty Providence Medical sports bottle filled with medical supplies and whatnot and a few big signs asking patients to leave a positive 5-​star review on Unilocal, bring in proof of that 5-​star review and receive that sports bottle. REALLY???

My wife and I have been with Dr. Michael Pin since his old location near Valencia HS. He’s become mostly my primary doctor over the years and he’s taken extremely good care of my needs. When Dr. Pin not available for those last minute walk-in’s or same day appointments, Jesse is an excellent PA.
They’re well connected to the ER down in Mission Hills, as I had an emergency some years ago and was passed to the physician in charge. They knew I was coming and admitted me almost immediately. The affiliation with the Providence network is definitely is positive.

Clean, professional, and friendly people. I hate going to hospitals or the ER but it was a great experience at this location. They even emailed my perscription to the pharmacy for me!

Love this place. They are clean, friendly, helpful with great doctors who listen and take guidance from patient. Only one PA I did not care for b/​c she was more interested in her computer than me. She gets 1 star. Have always accurately diagnosed and have me and family feeling better right away. Never have waited very long either.

I personally liked their previous location where I could pull right up to the door instead of now having to fight with the CPK lunch crowd for a spot that doesn’t require a guide map.
And with that transition, some of their staff stayed behind, including one of my favorites, but I’m getting an ailment taken care of not dating them.
I’ve had good luck with appointment times when I need them along with hit and miss wait times when I just walk in. The staff they do have is of good nature, willing to help, and also follow-​up with you the next day to make sure everything is OK. More importantly? They have never screwed up my insurance billings.
I even scheduled my physical here which was pretty comprehensive and thorough so I was happy with that as well.
Need something non-​life threatening taken care of? I’d recommend.
